    Being from a family with an abuser I can attest the abuser can be super charming & even funny in front of others & in public. You come to cherish those good times & fear the trigger moments. The Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde personality does exist. The threats with gun shots & holes in the wall can happen….
    It’s an emotional & psychological roller coaster life🎢

    This mans state of mind ? ? Married a very young woman within 2 weeks of meeting her? Shooting his gun into the ceiling. Punching a hole in the wall ? These are true anger issues.

    • @frsmith5069
      @frsmith5069 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      There are anger issues yes but no evidence he hit her. And what about her? She chose to marry this man after 12 days. Do we dismiss her actions as being an "emotionally vulnerable young woman"? He helped her pursue her dream to create a ballet company - she was getting what she wanted.
      Do we know how their marriage came about - was it her initiation or his? He just lost his wife recently, he was a veteran and very likely had PTSD from his service making his emotional state potentially more difficult to manage. His prior DV history could have been related to his service, but he didn't hit her at least there is no record introduced at this point as I understand. Her "vulnerable and naive" DV victim defense is still suspect at this point - at least for me.

      She's an easy read manipulator, I have zero clue how she's done this too. I'm glad I have sixth sense of reading people like I can...he may have anger issues, but that doesn't even come CLOSE to saying he was an abuser! You wanna hear some things I say after the Chicago Bears lose. Him doing the things he did do shows short fuse and he needs to vent in other ways, but does not mean he's an abuser. She's the type to say certain things to him, but SHOW or even tell others different, she probably had him wound tighter than a clock and then with finding some of this stuff out and/or realizing it to himself. Which made him unspin FAST. He needed to realize that and vent anger in other ways, absolutely, but that doesn't mean he's an abuser

      And we are frustrated by people who claim to be with an abusive partner, yet never call the police, or do anything to remove themselves from said situation. It must be very frustrating to be with a partner who will claim abuse just because they lost an argument, or had to take some personal accountability, or they are just not getting their way and what they demand.
      Equally, I am delighted that most don't understand. It would be a very sad world if they did, and seems to be an odd thing to call for.

    Having been in an abusive marriage - that's what you do - you laugh - you keep everything "happy" to keep them happy!! They are like a light switch - say the wrong thing . . . and oh buddy . . . the other side comes out when least expected!! You can't judge without knowing what a relationship is like - So glad that Vermont changed their law for abused woman - in the Jennifer Dulos case - he didn't hit/beat her - so because there were no bruises/black eyes - there was no abuse!!! They now look at the psychological abuse...which is what I lived with -- I would pray he would just hit me and get it over with - after an hour of verbal abuse - spitting in my face - screaming in my face!! No bruises though!

    My ex left me for dead. I came up with the explanations we could give the doc for my injuries while on the way to the hospital. Afterwards there would be plenty of videos of me laughing with him, even having a nice time. That didn’t mean I wasn’t still scared of him, or that he wasn’t capable of killing me. Its called a mind fuck for a reason. Nothing about our behavior is going to be what you , who have never lived it, thinks it should. After I kicked my ex out, I still had him come over one night, and it was even nove seeing him. The next night I stayed up all night with his gun on my hip, terrified he was coming to kill me.
    Truly there is NO WAY to know if she is telling the truth, but there are things pointing to him being threatening. I was the first woman he ever hit, then one night beat me and left for dead. He was an “amazing” man.
    Abuse doesn’t have a one size fits all.

I had never seen this side of him for 10 years, through all his worst & best times! I did finally get up the nerve to leave with the kids....and while he had visitation (he NEVER paid child support) - I get the kids all ready (they loved their Dad and I never talked back about him in front of them -same as he never abused me in front of them - until he did and that's when I left) - but they loved him and they would sit watching for him and he wouldn't show up... I recall in some high profile cases, lunch was provided to jurors because there was an instance where it was mentioned they requested better choices or something. For whatever reasons, jurors in this case go out to get their own lunches. Maybe that was a mistake if people in restaurants near the courthouse are talking about it. It seems to me to be an easily fixable problem: allow a delivery app or just have court employees go pick up “to go” orders to bring food orders to the jurors … and of course, I’m assuming jurors are provided a room or rooms to eat lunch.

    • @SoCalMama
      @SoCalMama 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Jurors are usually only provided lunch if they are sequestered during the trial or if they have begun deliberations. I had to leave the courthouse to get my own lunch both times that I served, both federal and state. I only remember having access to the jury room during deliberations or if we were sent out of the courtroom but not on recess but that probably varies.

    • @Daybreaq
      @Daybreaq 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@SoCalMama I understand that’s the way they do things; and most of the time, it probably works fine. But for these high profile cases where there are a lot of reporters and spectators every day in the gallery, it seems to me to be an easy precaution that would cost A LOT less than a mistrial would cost if too many jurors overheard too much at lunch. If it is a high profile, interesting case, it seems obvious that courtroom spectators would go to restaurants near the courthouse during lunch break and they’d be talking about what they just observed.

It's scary to watch this person escalate and know help isn't coming - worse that people accuse you of being manipulative because there isn't "proof" - and the very quality of your life and the life of your children also depends on you behaving in a way that covers for scary behaviors done in private. It's scary when the people and organizations that are supposed to protect you don't act. I can see why she acted as she did. In Utah they added to the law to caution police against making quick assumptions about abuse because it appears the other person is the violent one. This was after the gabby petito case. They thought she was the abuser and she ended up getting killed. Criminal lawyers and police officers should have to take classes to learn how to better understand and identify abuse.

Seriously, I believe we’re going to have to begin sequestering the juries & keeping them all in one single hotel, and not allowing them to be in public, going home at night to their family; using their cell phones during the day, & keeping them logged in without any access to the YT & SM channels.

    My ex was so violent with me, kicked holes in doors, drove dangerously, punched holes in door next to my face, spit in my face, and blew up in a rage weekly over nothing.
    I only deescalated, and never retaliated for fear of broken bones, it only happened to me, and they were calm and happy toward everyone else, at work an angel.
    I left, but right before is when they hit my face 25 times, trapped me in my room, someone called cops, they got off me, after biting my finger till it bled, and ripping my hair out, and spitting in my face and shouted at me to leave or I was going off to jail.
    I still moved away a week later, then filed a police report, got restraining order, they had 52 week batterers course ordered and were reprimanded in court by judge.
    I honestly went through hell with police getting my report, being asked why didn't I report sooner, when statute of limitations is 5 years. If my face wasn't deeply bruised for a month, I think noone would believe me. Its so hard because just thinking of the violent reactions to going to a hearing to get the rrsttaining order is reliving the worst fear of their violence. Someone shouting, throwing things, pulling you by the hair, shoving you, accusing you daily of things, highly jealous when completely unfounded, but they flirt, cheat, ignore you is psychological threats.

    It’s REALLY hard for me to get over the fact that he never physically assaulted her prior to the night of the shooting, and at most bumped into her that evening. Even knowing he has fired a gun into the ceiling (we have to take her word it was purposeful on his part to intimidate her) and had punched a hole in a wall, if he doesn’t have a history of hitting her I have to take a leap to believe he suddenly wanted to beat or kill her that day. Also that video of her and her mom with him did NOT seem like a woman pretending to like him out of fear. She was relaxed and when she laughed (genuinely at that) she even had throat exposure by tilting her head back, which is a vulnerable movement a person in fear of the person sitting across from them wouldn’t do. None of this is adding up for me. Oh, and why didn’t she call 911 herself? The threat had been neutralized so it doesn’t make a lot of sense to me that she would run to “safety” when the threat was gone. It would have made sense if he had hit her and she escaped. Or if her phone had been broke and she needed to borrow someone else’s to call the police. But going to a neighbors almost seems like she didn’t want to have to call 911 herself and explain it. She knew if she went next door the guy would call for her. That’s a potential reason she did that. Idk. I want her to take the stand and explain it to me Convince me why she felt the need to grab her gun, and why shooting him was the only option. I’ve seen so many women lie about abuse, so I know they’re capable of it, and it’s tainted me for believing other women when there isn’t substantial evidence.

      from what i heard, the gunshot into the ceiling episode happened when ashleigh violated eva's privacy by reading her diary, then took it to doug trying to get eva into trouble. (if i recall correctly she told him "you're supposed to pick me" over his own daughter.) she wouldn't let it go and kept ranting about it after he asked her to drop it several times. finally out of frustration he warned her if she didn't stop he would fire the gun. she kept yelling at him about eva so he fired into the ceiling. it's a terrible thing to do and i'm not trying to justify it, but i wouldn't consider that as a viable threat on her life.

      @@reefshadow1 Shootng a gun in the air automatically means unspoken threat of murder?? Yeah I’m not seeing that. He’d never even physically touched her. Also I don’t know why you left a petty comment saying I shouldn’t be on the jury when I never once said I would convict her. Or that as a juror I couldn’t be unbiased. I said it’s tainted me in that now I have to question every woman who comes forward with those type of claims and dubious evidence. (Those thoughts shouldnt even enter my head!!!!). That’s not the same as me saying I automatically assume she’s guilty. Also there’s a distinct difference between leaning toward thinking someone is guilty , and actually finding her guilty as a juror. I haven’t watched the entire trial so I can’t say for sure what I would do. And I also haven’t heard the defense yet. But based on the recaps I’ve gotten from Peter’s I would actually find her NOT guilty at this point. Because I’m not convinced the state has proven she wasn’t in fear for her life. Even though I lean toward thinking she’s lying. There’s just way too many inconsistencies. (Though the defense might answer some of those.). Anyway him shooting a gun to make a point was clearly wrong, but it also wasn’t a direct threat on her. Especially with the explanation of what happened from the other commenter here. You have a right to believe that, I have a right to disagree. But let’s not act like children.

Even that shows that he was controlling and did what he wanted because no one else's opinion mattered. His daughter said that in those first months she moved in her friend as well. Now imagine you're AB and the daughter hates you and then another teenager moves in without you having any say. I see all the comments arguing whether Ashley’s behaviour, words, actions, tone, facial expressions etc. are indicative of her being a DV victim trying to survive vs a manipulative liar trying to cover up her guilt. But for me, I’m not overly interested in digging into that, at this point. That’s simply because, for me, I can be 100% convinced a person is guilty, and would still feel compelled to vote not guilty if the state had not met their burden of proof. And personally, I don’t feel the prosecution have done that.
    They put forward a motive - the imminent release of the psych assessments - that they didn’t prove beyond reasonable doubt, and that their own witnesses cast doubt on.
    They knew, from the 911 call that Ashley claimed it was self defense, but provided no meaningful evidence to counter that claim.
    And their own witnesses were the ones who testified to things like bullet holes in the ceiling, and fist marks in the walls with no credible suggestion that they were caused by anyone but Doug during violent outbursts.
    Do I think it’s possible that Ashley is a manipulative liar who murdered her husband to keep her baby from him, and tried to pass that murder off as self defense? Definitely I think that’s possible.
    But have the state proven that beyond a reasonable doubt? Definitely not. I don’t think they have done enough to show motive, and to rule out self defense. May they get there on rebuttal? It’s possible I suppose, but at this point, it’s a very big ask, in my opinion.

BUT when i looked at her, after then intense testimony, when they allowed her time to pull herself together, that is NOT the face of someone who had that type of emotional breakdown. the face does not match someone crying like that. also, tears? snot? she didn't even ask for a tissue. this is a very good actor. i had an abusive husband, she is imitating someone like me, but the physical part, the face, does not match.
    after i cried those types of tears of grief, your face changes for a while. the eyelids are very puffy, red, if you have make up on its all over your face, and you must have tissues, im calling this out as fake, she does not seem real, she seems like she is imitating someone like me, who was actually physically abused.
    also, i am noticing that she is off the stand, in a chair, and she is sneaking looking around, like fast, this is totally fake. if you have an emotional breakdown like this, it is humiliating and you do not want to look around at anyone or anything.
    like i said, i believed her, just listening, but then watching her, the face doesn't match the emotional sobbing, this is not right.
