Thank you so much for this informative video. My Veteran father’s heart stopped five times and thankfully lived through the strokes. He has currently been released from hospital but is not able to get to a rehabilitation center due to Covid. Praying he is able to gain some mobility and will be watching these videos religiously in hopes to help him best I can in the meantime till he gets the professional help he deserves. He is currently needing oxygen and is showing signs of jaundice-due to him not moving around. Praying for his health and recovery, thanking you for this post!

Thanks for these lessons Dr, my mum had stroke 3months back, half of her entire body couldn't move, but she's moving all parts now but can't walk yet. I so believe these exercises would help her stand and walk.

My mother has stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer and they took the tumor out of her brain leaving her unable to move her left side. We are doing exercise everyday to hopefully see her walk again and ive used so much of your videos to work with my mom and i want to say thank you for your videos. With continued exercise i hope to see my mom walk again... i wish you all lived in Dallas Texas so we could have you work with my mom and make her dream come true to walk again.

Hi, I just found your videos, they are so helpful. I have a few video recommendations... Could you do one on practical keys for bed mobility- especially scooting up and down in bed, particularly for more complex patients who cannot bridge well or are very de-conditioned, or in cases when they are unable to follow commands well? A video on technique and tips for stand pivot/ sit pivot transfers for more complex/ dependent patients would be very very helpful as well!! If anyone has any additional resources on these topics I'd love to hear them.

This is a (very good) demonstration for a patient, who has hypotonia in the affected side. If the patient has hypertonia, you will/ might not be to do it like that, or you risk activating the hypertonia. So how would you go about it, if the patient has hypertonia in the affected side? One the best way to rehabilitate the body after a stroke, is also in the small variations of the training, so it is ( in my view) just as important to be able to get from lying to sitting position over the non affected side the body, and how would you go about that if the patient has respectively hypertonia or hypotonia in the affected side? And how would you rehabilitate the hypertonia in the affected side?
    Kind regards

Mommy has to watch this video because Daddy had a stroke 5 years ago. She has to work for hours to take care of him. Her life is very hard because she was born in a poor country called Laos, had to go to refugee camp when she was only 8 years old after her youngest brother was born, she moved to America after refugee camp, she spoke English at 8 years old, she got married to Daddy at age 19 years old, she was pregnant with her first baby, me, when she was 23 years old, she gave birth to my little brother Joseph at 26 years old, she gave birth to my little brother Seth at 28 years old, she gave birth to my little brother Zach when she was 29 years old, she gave birth to my little brother Jed when she was 32 years old, she gave birth to my little brother Isaiah when she was 33 years old, and she gave birth to my youngest brother Jeremiah when she was 36 years old, she had to take all us kids to the doctors and the hospital, she cooks and cleans, and now she has to take care of Daddy. She says that Daddy is like her last child. Changing his diaper and feeding him and helping him walk and getting him dressed and taking him to the doctors and cutting his hair and cooking for him and feeding him and showering him down and hauling him up and down the stairs. Daddy can talk, but not in complete sentences. His two favorite words are change and when. He can ask questions, too, like which one is it and what time is it and where is it and which one. Daddy has two crazy siblings. He has a crazy little sister who hates Mommy. He has a crazy little brother who hates Mommy. Those two stupid people kicked her out of church. But they don't know that Mommy is always tired. There are 7 kids running around the house and she has a sick husband that she has to take care of.

Lesley Gilbert I brewed to correct my dropped foot because wearing the brace is cutting off my circulation. As I have diabetes this could lead to amputation. The health professionals ate very negative on this subject. I am constantly being told that I have probably for my stored for for life. I am not a negative person but its hard to rise above that kind of comment. I doubt care if I have a dropped foot for life I do need to try put excuses that could possibly work Weymouth the brains for plasticity (to create new neural pathways). I also need to increase movement in my right leg because. My hamstring has been affected. Which means I can't bend my leg to touch my behind si can with my best side. These two things are the main reason I cannot walk without sticks also need to work in balance. I have now decides to sou my foot brace when indoors to try to get some movement in my foot. Despite having no excuses for a stored foot I can now move my foot toward s my head when lying down on my back on my bed. I will not give up.

Just want to say that despite some comments here, the method of getting someone out of bed by leading with their stroke affected side is a terrible idea. Until any shoulder separation at the joint has retracted and shoulder blade sitting flat with some recovery, having them lead and roll onto the affected arm is potentially dangerous, and extremely difficult for the patient. By leading off the side of the bed with their good leg and arm, they have firm plantation of their foot and can push themselves up with their strong arm without risk of potentially falling on the affected side and tearing a muscle or dislocating a joint. Until the patient regained some strength and muscle tone, that is a terrible method. 12 years later it is still infinitely safer and easier for me to leave my bed to the right (my left side the affected side) and is exactly what my team of PT’s and OT’s encouraged to avoid injury.
