Currently dealing with my 80yo dad who had a stroke ~3 1/2 years ago. We've(me & Ma) been doing the best we can & lately it's not enough, but content like this helps tremendously.

OT student having a hard time adjusting to real stroke patients on my fieldwork that require Max-Total assistance. Do you have a video on blocking the patient's affected knee and shifting their weight from one side to the other in order to stand-pivot transfer?

So you have your left arm tucked under the armpit of a hemiplegic patient with a subluxation in his shoulder? Please God tell me I'm missing something. Secondly, by pushing the left knee back and not allowing the tibia any room to slide forward you are impeeding the sit to stand motion. Again, it's possible I'm misconstruing what is going on.

No it will not be safe to do this with a person who is very overweight and has bilateral weakness. I am a senior OT in Physical Disability

Be careful and NEVER pull an arm. The pain of even a pulled muscle is incredibly painful, especially after a stroke.

I’m so tired. Having a stroke has taken all my energy. Beginning to wonder if it’s worth it.

It’s worth it. Very frustrating in the beginning. Think independence instead of being dependent. It’s a long road.
