    $60 bucks for a couple of $2 brushes and mini tins of product, hell no. Get those brushes at Walmart and get saddle soap and mink oil from boot barn, Thats all you need $25 total and thats on the high side. And if you really need a cardboard tube get that at Michael's 😂

    Great video!! Just purchased my first pair of Thorogood’s and will definitely be in the market for a good boot conditioner down the road.

    The Armstrong stuff looks really good with this leather. I prefer the look of the Brooklyn Leather conditioner, but I like the idea of the 2 part system to gradually darken it down further if you want.

    I got a pair a Thorogood's after watching your vid's and they are awesome. Thanks for the great reviews, and what kind of watch are you wearing in this vid?

      Mike F hey buddy, are you still liking the Thorogood's, and how is the cushioning/shock absorbing characteristics? I'm doing research on which boot's to purchase and I'm on my feet all day and at the end of day my heels hurt so much I can barely walk.

    Hey DevonReviewer, hope you are doing great man. really nice video... i have seen almost all of your boot videos... good informative vids... which one would you recommend for casual day to day wear? red wing 875 vs thorogood 814 ? is the sole replacable on thorogood?

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Thorogood can be resoled as it has a welt construction. I think they are tougher wearing on the soles and in the insole saves fatigue when standing.... the thorogood have the edge IMHO

    • @elmanitasdeplomo
      @elmanitasdeplomo 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thinking I want Vibram Sierra soles on these boots if I buy them. Would it be best to get them resoled straight away when they're new? I don't like the idea of these crepe soles.

  • @sneak182
    @sneak182 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey great videos love them. I just got some of these boots does this stuff waterproof them ?

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It certainly helps with water resistance, but if you want super oily waterproofed boots you will probably need a heavier product.

    • @sneak182
      @sneak182 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      DevonReviewer I want something to waterproof them that won't leave them looking shiny can you recommend anything ? Also do yours have a split in the welt ? On the inerside of the boot near the back of where the arch of your foot would be ?

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scott Wilcox I don't have much experience but you may want to either look at a natural product such as Leder Gris Xtreme Clear, or a silicon spray... and yes I have the same split in the welt; completely normal the welt is sown on in a strip, it needs a neat join.

    Do you work in an art gallery? I see the lace marks on the tongue that indicates usage, but they were in pretty good shape before you cleaned them.

    Hi, what product would you recommend for the Thorogood's to retain the natural coloration of the boot? Thanks

    • @IrishEagIe
      @IrishEagIe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Red wings boot cream. It doesn't alter the colour at all. I think it does contain silicon though

  • @unknownsoldier3610
    @unknownsoldier3610 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    With oil tanned leathers you don’t really wanna use any wax.. the wax will kinda cancel out the natural oils in the leather and change the finish

    How often should you do this with boots?

    • @DevonReviewer
      @DevonReviewer  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably monthly....but in reality a few times a year, when they look dull, or are obviously absorbing water rather than repelling it.....

    • @stepnsoles3909

      Weirdpath 5 A bare minimum would be about 2 times a year depending on your area and how much you use them Ideally though about every 3 months

    You obviously know what you're doing. Good job on letting them absorb the conditioner over night and not rushing the job. Have you tried using your wax as a waterproofing compound? If you want to have a go at it. Use a blow dryer (A heat gun works better, BUT, you must know how to use one and be careful or you'll ruin your boots) a hair blow dryer is more forgiving. I'll give you a quick "Down and Dirty" on the how. If you happen to have a old el cheapo (Mr. Coffee) coffee maker this will be easier. I use the heating element of the coffee maker to keep my wax in a liquid state while I do this. (Note: Keep a CLOSE eye on your wax, you just want it liquid NOT smoking) Put on a good/heavy coat and use the heat gun to "Draw" the wax into the leather. Put two or even three coats. Do NOT point the heat gun at one spot for more than one second OR get too close to the leather. If you're worried about ruining your boots, use the hair dryer as it's much more forgiving. You seem to me to be pretty knowledgeable so the heat gun should be fine for you. The warning is more for those who don't want to spend too much but would rather use what they have. When I put my tin can of wax on the element, I'm constantly switching (Alternately, you can put the tin on and take it off) it on and off. NO SMOKE. If you see your wax smoking, you're letting it get TOO hot. HTH.

      @@speedwolf5212 i feel like its a rip off also. Im sure they are good quality. Heck probably the best. But 50 bucks, gosh. It take me like a week to save that kind of money.
