A popular boot in the northeast are Chippewa Super Loggers. Id love to see a cut-open review of these boots as I have sworn by them for years. Again, great video! 👍🏻
So you expect us to believe you in any of your videos when your description is rife with self promotion and you pin your own affiliate links? Yeah. You're really objective and truthful. Yeah, roger.
I just ordered my first pair of Thorogood American Heritage Moc wedge boots after years in Red Wing 202s. I didn't find this video until after I placed my order, but having reviewed both your moc toe wedges and the Red Wings, I'm glad I chose yours. I work on ladders a lot and, while I'd prefer a steel shank, at least your boots have a fiberglass shank to help spread the load and keep the pain from reaching my back...
Thorogood boots are the best boots I have ever had. I’ve had so many others and they don’t come close. Comfortable, good looking and durable. The best boots I have ever owned.
I have been in my Thorogood boots for over a year as a power plant Operator without any issues. Best boots I have had for my work environment. Thanks for the video.
@@TerryHesticles I have a pair of Thorogoods with the stormwelt, which they say is supposed to make them more water-resistant. I haven't been disappointed. For a boot that doesn't claim to be waterproof, I've never had any water make it in yet, and I would in industrial maintenance which has me working indoors and outdoors regardless of whatever the weather is outside. For $200 you really can't go wrong.
@@TerryHesticles They have treated me well. Like the other comment, I'm out in the weather no matter the climate and have never had an issue. I ordered my second pair last week so I can rotate them between wears.
I’ve been wearing that same boot in 8” for over 15 years. Absolutely love them I consistently get three years plus out of them as a production welder and mechanic. I’m not easy on my boots and probably don’t take as good of care with them as I should. Very comfortable all day long and I consider them to be a fantastic value. Thanks for the video.
Same here. I've got 20y/o RWs. My TGs are getting on 10+. You're obviously taking good care of them. I know way too many people (mostly guys) who don't know or care about maintaining a quality boot and then bitch about them not being good or whatever.
3rd time is a charm! I'm a union drywall finisher & own a pair of these Thorogoods, needed a steel toe option, and subjected them to a ton of abuse, between work, hiking, and wearing them casually. Out of the box they were so comfortable, especially when compared to my casual boot, my Red Wing 875's. After 2 years it's time for another pair, the spackle is brutal to leather even if conditioned regularly. Where the crimped part of the toe box meets and runs under the section that has the eyelets, a little crack formed, allowing some water to get in, but the Welt seems to be fine. I love how these are much easier to slip on over the Red Wings, the speed hooks and loop make a big difference. Thinking of trying 8" Red Wing 877's or US Made Carolina 8" Moc Toes next! Love your videos and this Moctober Installment, keep up the good work brother!
Don’t buy Carolina’s Moc. The protective layer of steel toe section wore out on mine in less than three months. The steel toe rubs against my pinky toe which is the worst feeling in the world. I must say they started off very comfortable. The insoles are great as well in my opinion they are better than Thorogood’s insole. But steel cutting into my pinky toe is a deal breaker for me.
One more thing if you are going to buy Carolina’s version of the Moc Toe boot buy the non steel to version. You shouldn’t have a problem with them. I’m going to take my insoles out of the Carolina’s and put them in a pair of Thorogood’s.
I may be in the minority here... but I much preferred when you were doing sponsored videos with the item you were reviewing/destroying on camera. I never felt like you were biased. Also I was introduced to a bunch of great companies who were proud of the product they were making! This was evident by being willing to have it cut in half on camera.... also it’s less expensive for you. Thanks for all you do! Seriously my favorite channel rn.
Thanks I’ll be bringing them back for videos moving forward especially with all people saying they didn’t mind the sponsorships! It’s super cool to have your support and faith in what I’m trying to do!
I have one crack in each welt, I’ve had my 6” moc toes from them for a little over four years and they’re killer, I put obenaufs on them a ton in the winter they stay pretty waterproof, and the leather has been in great shape and they’ve been nothing but comfortable since they broke in
I wanted to buy a Red Wings but I have to admit that now I've fallen in love with the Thorogood. They have a couple of details like the brand in the backside and the tag with the USA flag that attack me a little bit more than the Red ones. BTW, thanks for the video.
Just curious...what made you change your mind about moc toe boots? I have some acquaintances that really don’t like the aesthetics of moc toes. They strongly prefer round toe or cap toe boots. I like them all :)
I’ve been in construction in Ohio for nearly 20 years, with iron working and concrete finishing being my two main trades. I’ve been wearing mock toes for the last 10 years, and I can tell you that it doesn’t matter which boots you buy, concrete and concrete dust will limit you to 12-18 months of wear before the uppers are shot. Regardless of care. That said, the Thorogood’s are consistently the most comfortable. For a true work boot, the Thorogood 6” round toe composite toe wedge sole are hands down my favorite, and the best work boots I’ve ever owned. Of course, they stopped making them though. But I’ll be sticking with Thorogood’s.
I'm at a concrete plant and got the wedge sole do you think it will hold up well? Moc 8inch with wedge sole I didn't know it wasn't quite as durable as heel soles.
I’ve worn Thorogood boots for years. I’ve got three pair In different stages of wear. I love them and loved seeing you cut them in half. Very informational.
Been wearing thorogood boots for about 6 years and all I can say is that they're the best boots I've found on the market under $500. Guess Wisconsin just does it better
I've got a pair of Thorogood 814-4200 5" in tobacco. I recently had the soles replaced after almost three years of use. I live in west Michigan and wear these for work (truck driving,) yard work, and some of my hiking. They get year round wear, even in snow, and the welts still look perfect. No cracking or loosening. I keep shoe trees in them when not on my feet, give them Wednesdays off to rest, and saddle soap and reapply Bick 4 every couple of months in the cold seasons, and a little less in the warm. I expect them to last at least another sole.
I’ve got a dress up pair and a work pair, I wear these everyday. They out perform every other boot I’ve ever had. The welt doesn’t crack. Best boot on the market, for comfort and longevity for 12 hour refinery shifts
I'm actually more excited at the idea of a comparison between the Thorogood and the Thursdays since they're in the same price range. Of course, something that's 40% more expensive should be made with higher quality materials.
Having both for the past year I can tell you they're entirely different boots. The Thursday's are strictly for fashion whereas I wear my Thorogood's mainly for work. I've got about 2 million steps in the past 11 months with the steel toe Thorogood's and it's about time for replacement. The leather has developed some deep cracking despite cleaning and conditioning them at least every other week. I think the main culprit is the fact my feet/ankles sweat a lot... and despite drying these on a PEET dryer after work, sweat really does a number on leather. In comparison, I probably only have 100k steps in my Thursday Captains and they're just barely broken in. I wear these strictly for casual purposes and they get rather uncomfortably tight when my feet swell up after about 6 hours of wear, regardless of how many steps I've taken. They feel more like wearing a formal shoe with a very hard sole. I still love them but am looking forward to when I can really put em through their paces
Best pair of boots I ever worked in! The steel toe version isn’t too tight or bulky the welt did split a little a year in but I got 2 years out of mine even walking on rebar. Big fan of your content keep up the good work! 🥾💪🏽
I find my steel toe version to be more roomy and comfortable than my non steel Toed pair. I'm a little over 2 years into this pair , and find myself getting slightly annoyed they won't wear out, because I WANT to buy a new pair.🤣 that in itself should be a testament; None of us typically want to buy new boots, but these things are comfortable right out of the box.... They're apparently bomb proof too. I typically get 7-8 months out of boots. I'm a thorogood customer for life.
You have a new sub today! I have had my Thorogoods for going on three years now. They have held up to everything I have put them through with not a single problem. Harsh chemicals, gas, diesel, rain, mud, heat and who knows what else. By far the best pair of boots I have ever had. I recently picked up a pair of Silverado boots, be interesting to see how they are put together since they are around the same price point.
Hands down my favorite actual work boot. I’ve got RW 875s and 1907s but don’t use them as hard work boots. I put my Thorogoods through hell though (roofing, laying tile, yard work, cutting fire wood, etc.) Edit- also have had zero issues with the welts in both pairs I have. Cotton lining does go quicker than leather.
I have a pair of Thorogood 1892 Portage boots, they also have the poron mid soles with the insert, can confirm these are SUPER comfortable boots with little to no break in time.
Thanks for the vid. I personally love my thorogoods but am also disappointed with the fake stitch. I really don't understand why company do it because it just cost more time and money and serves no purpose. I've had no welt cracking issues but I'm curious what climate people are in that they experience welt cracking. I did purchase a pair of rock roosters and I have to say they are holding up well and are one of the most comfortable boots I've ever worn, even next to thorogood so thanks for making that video as well.
Well let me just say thank you for having this channel. Its nice to know when you truly are a "boot guy" you are not alone. Thank you for cutting this boot. I have worn redwings for years ( I am a machinist ) and just recently got my first pair of thorogood's. 8" waterproof moc toe 1957 series. I would like to see you cut a waterproof pair just to see. I agree with you the thorogood had zero break in. Just extremely comfortable right out of the box which was a nice change.
I’ve had 2 pairs of Thorogoods for work. Loved the looks and comfortably. I also have had the welt crack but to be fair, it was only after a re-sole and probably after about 3000 hours of use. These are some of the best work boots you can buy.
I’ve worn mine for 2 1/2 years and walk 6-9 miles per day and I’ve only had one crack on the right foot right in the arch. No other issues. Best boots I’ve ever owned.
@@RoseAnvil that's where all mine crack. Sometimes you can see a seam or crack there, straight from the factory. They join the plastic welt together there.
@@mrredpill3121 Thorogood has legit customer service, they've impressed me multiple times before, no doubt they will send this man some boots. Also theyre better than Red Wings and Danner IMO.
@@roman212 dude you ain't kidding. These guys just showed up in the TH-cam comments and sent it. I got a pair of thorogood boots myself because I had heard their customer service was better than even redwing, and the quality felt like it was easily on par with redwings too
I just bought some yesterday for work, I work at a grocery store and haven't tried them yet... I figured I'd spend part of my stimulus check on work boots that were made in America, although some foreign components were ok.., and I shopped local at my local cobbler to support a good family business. Watching you're shows gives me something other than motorcycles and cars to geek out about. Thanks. Will buy one of your leather good soon!
Can you do a wear test on the different outsoles of these boots by putting them on a sander and timing it? That be really cool for the finale. Also please do the Alden Indy boot. Love the vids 👍
Kinda what I'm wondering I got the wedge sole and I'm out and about on construction sites so now I'm kinda worried about that sole. Maybe I should have gotten the heel version.
Just bought these same boots and man, I’m glad I did what I did. Had Thorogoods before but not the Moc Toes, just an absolute classic look, ready for work 🤝
Bought a pair of these at the big boot store in the next town just today. They just plain fit like a glove. Looking forward to seeing how they hold up to the hype. Edit: I'm two weeks in and they're fantastic. Most comfortable boots I've ever owned, next to no break-in, and they look great if you don't work them to death like I've been doing. Edit 2: about a month and a half in now and they're still pretty great. Insoles are holding up great, leather is doing fine despite its softness. My only real complaint so far is that the laces could be better. They're not falling apart yet, which is good, but when I compare them to the laces on my Red Wing 606 boots, there's a distinct difference in feel. I'm betting these laces will die long before the rest of this boot will. That said, they still look pretty great when I cleaned them up the other day and conditioned the leather.
I love my thorogoods. I had danners before these and loved em. But didn’t know what I was missing. Thanks for spreading your knowledge and letting everyone know what’s what. 👍🏻
I know it’s Moctober; and I love it, but is there any chance we’ll see a Birkenboot Jackson being cut open? If you wanted to stick with the Moctober theme Birkenstock’s makes a Moc Toe boot called the Marton too! P.S Thanks for helping me find my new work boots!
I've been wearing mine for a little over a year . I work in a custom furniture shop where they are constantly covered in an inch of sawdust. I generally blow the dust off with an air hose at the end of the day .and that's about it. I just oiled them for the first time last week after watching your care video. They still look great when they're cleaned up and I have no issues whatsoever. I'll probably have them resoled in another year. And I plan to buy a second pair just for riding and going out. I love these boots. Also I should probably mention that I am 51 years old and have been working on my feet since 1987 and at the end of my work days my feet don't hurt. That's a huge deal for me.
I've had a few pairs of T-Good boots (steel toe, waterproof, not wedge soles) but I always suffer from the ones I like being discontinued, and the replacements not being what I am looking for. My favorites were a side zip, and the inserts were about 3 times thicker than the norm, so getting them was an issue, and then the soles were worn to the point of needing replacing, but I then had caustic soda spill onto them, and they did not survive that. Oddly enough the second pair suffered the same sort of death but with both acid, then a few weeks later caustic spilling onto the leather and causing them to tear at the thinned out portions. Chemical work is rough on boots. Had them come unglued, eaten away, and the waterproofing layers made ineffective (surfactants ruin Goretex and the like).
@@MikeHaggarKJ As part of the job, we now get $100 for replacements yearly, or every 6 months depending.I play with less caustic and acid now, too, so less chance.
I've worn Thorogoods mock toes for years now and have several pairs, all three of my pairs are still in tact and haven't had any issues with them. They're overall very comfortable and would most definitely recommend to anybody thats iffy on buying yourself a pair!
Best wedge soles. No doubt. Had mine for 3 years now and still looking great. All I wis is they moved the American flag from the side sticking because it pops the stitch. That’s what happens to my last pair.
Loving the Moctober series! I am an electrician doing construction and love my moc Redwings. My foreman though is all about his moc Thorogoods. Seeing this video has me a lot more curious about the Thorogoods and their tumbled leather.
Good stuff. Thanks for that. I recently bought a pair of Tgood 3800’s and the shank was popping on every step in my right boots. Absolute shame when spending close to $300 bones. Other then that the briar stop leather felt awesome and they were super comfortable. Returned them and will try again with the boot from a different company in the future once my work boot allowance at work gets re-upped lol
I’ve worn thorogood boots for several years and there my favorite Next to whites , not to fond of redwing, no shade to redwings but I think it’s more for dressing up and not a tradesmans
That's pretty hilarious because whites don't even offer a steel or composite toe, I don't think you would know a serious work boot if one kicked you in the teeth.
@@mad0uche Well Matt I did 4 fire seasons on a hotshot crew for the us forestry That’s where I used the whites boots in that field steel toe is not recommended Now I am a framer on a construction crew And use thorogood 👍🏽 Thanks for the reply
@@24kbrown22 One day you will have a job where safety hazard rated boots are required by the union, then you will understand whites are the dress up boots not red wings.
I bought a pair of these about a month ago. After about two weeks of wear, they were a lot more comfortable than when I first wore them. I work in an auto assembly plant and I am on my feet for 8-10.5 hours a day. I did put a different insert for a little better arch support.
My thorogoods are two years old and see daily wear. The heel on the right boot is starting to get an edge but nothing a resole won't fix. Been really happy with em. super comfy.
I’m an electrician and use these boots every day. I’ve tried different brands and wear these boots now. Funny you mention no break in period because these are the worst boots I’ve ever had in terms of a break in period. I do have a different leather though. But, really amazing boot once they’re ready!
What I find crazy is thorogood actually goes through any and all videos of their products and comments. I think that is really great. Shows they truly care about what people are saying about them. I can’t seem to find a boot that won’t fall apart so I’m waiting for mine to ship. If these don’t work, I’m gonna have to go full custom Nicks. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Good review, I’ve been learning a lot from this video series seems like these are pretty decent boots but looks like I can see why people still prefer the red wings over others. Glad I skipped buying the danners last time they were on my list for a while but looks like I’ll pass.
Hey there I work for a utility company and we do a lot of hand digging. My feet were hurting for about a month, asked around and finally bought new boots got these same exact ones and my pain on my feet went away. Awesome boots. Only downside is they take a minute to break in. But once broken in, they are solid!
I have had a pair of these for the last three years and can confirm all the praise and criticism of the video. I don't wear them to work but they have held up to the Toronto winters very well and I can see them lasting another 3 years with not much upkeep. I was considering buying redwings at the time until I read that some people claim Redwings can take over a month to work in. I laughed for the sake of comfort and savings after my first day of wearing my Thorogoods.
I personally have a pair of boots from their 1892 collection and I think the brand is pretty underated by a lot of people. Definitely a brand to consider getting something from if you have an issue with your boots being too stiff or hard or just prefer something a bit more flexible and cushioned.
My first pair of thorogoods were amazing. Like you said almost no break in, but we’re very durable. After a year or more, I bought a second pair and they absolutely destroyed my feet. I’m a commercial driver and it was agony moving around all day. I bought some redwings on the fly and they were fine, but I finally sent out the original pair for a resole and they’re back in the rotation. Still good for work and getting beat up on the Harley.
I've got the Thoroughgood american heritage round toe boots, same construction as the moc toe just different look. I've been wearing them almost every single day for over a year. Mud, rain, snow (not recommended, poor traction on sick conditions!), concrete, saw dust, tool oil, gun oil, paint, floor finish, blood, you name it. No signs of cracking, splitting, or tearing. I really appreciated this video, being able to see how my boots are made. I think your final assessment is correct, maybe they're not highest quality, but certainly good and worth their price. I'd guess I'll get another 10 months out of the soles, and years more before I wear out the rest of it.
Great video, a little uncomfortable every time I see those boots heading for the saw as they're pretty hard to get hold of in the 🇬🇧 UK. Great information though.
I have a pair of black throughgoods, worn for 2 almost 3 years and to cover some of the things you mentioned ; no issues with welt or cracking what so ever. Winters get cold and summers are hot so they see all weather conditions . The inner lining around the toe area tore so I had to rip it out because it was bunching up around the toes. Overall not a huge issue . The sole at this point needs resoled . I love these boots so instead of buying a new pair that is what I plan to do. After all this time they have far too much character . Loved the cleaning video by the way!! Learned how to clean the soles . Amazing 😉
My friend has had this boot exact boot for over a decade and he let me look em over today because I'm thinking of getting some. You are exactly right. The welt is cracked where the toe bends. But the rest of the boot has held up amazingly well for soo much use. Thinking it's worth the money though if I get 10 years out of em...
I used to buy nothing but Thorogoods. They held up great and were really comfortable when you first put them on. I started to notice that after about a year of wearing them, my feet would start to hurt. I worked as a motorcycle mechanic and was on my feet all day. After my third pair I decided to try a pair of Red Wings. The Red Wings aren’t as soft on the inside and felt a bit hard on the sole of my foot but once they broke in they felt fantastic! For me the Redwings supported my foot better with no foot pain even after years of use. Thorogood is a great boot for the money and made in the USA but it’s Red Wing for me from here on out.
I've had two pair of their shoes. One an 8" tactical boot, the other a moc toe shoe that were the oxford type version of this boot. Both were grossly over sized, and both needed different insoles and thick socks to use. The moc toe christy style sole was garbage on concrete. I got 6 months out of them before the sole was so worn, it was next to useless. I leveled the sole, and hand cut tread into what was left. I got a few more months out of them after, but by the time I was at the 9 month or so. Even the upper was so tired, they weren't worth recrafting.
And that’s the biggest factor here. They’re simply not worthy of a resole so you’re essentially getting a boot you toss after you’ve worn through the soles.
Just got a new pair from the mobile truck, my company paid 133 bucks towards the purchase so I'm only stuck with paying 84 bucks. Can't beat that with a stick.
I'm a carpenter and have been wearing the Thorogood 8" mock toe boots almost exclusively for the last 10 years. They are absolutely the best/most comfortable boots out of the box that I have found. Usually last me about a year of everyday hard use before it's time to replace.
@Denis Palchak You have a "libs getting owned" type playlist, yet you are posting a link to a satirical website making fun of right-wing conspiracy theorists.
😅 appreciate the dedication but i would been cool with a fake cutting, instead of your personal pair. We could still see the inside of the other pair at the end of the day.
Meant to also mention...I have a pair of Thorogood moctoe’s and I like them, but I had a different experience with the insert. I found them uncomfortable under the heel-I guess it was that different density portion. Not a big deal. As you said, easily changed. I swapped out for a different insole and it was fine. Jury’s still out for me on the leather. I haven’t made up my mind whether I like the softer leather or not. You’re right, break in was super easy. Also! I just assumed the triple stitch line was decorative. Never occurred to me that it’d be for reinforcement against stretch. Decorative stitching always bothers me so I’m glad to know it has purpose. Thanks.
Ok I actually laughed at your seventh-grade joke. If you’ve already cut open two of them maybe it was time to just tell us: so I cut this boot open... we’d understand.
Just got my first pair of these in the Black Walnut. LOVE THEM. Outdoor Equipped has these on sale right now. I bought 2 more pair after trying these on.
I work in a carp/weld shop and do a lot of walking and I love my thorogood boots I have a new pair but still use my old set cuz theyre just so comfortable theyre on their 4th year now and are holding up well.
My thorogood moc toes are the most durable boot I've ever worn period. This Christmas will be 3 years in them. For the first 18 months I wore them daily for 10-12 hrs in a machine shop on concrete floors with weekends spent doing house reno work. They held up great and extremely comfortable. Id recommend getting the red insoles thorogood sells instead of the ones that come with the boot. All in all I got my moneys worth and they earned a lifetime buyer. The only issues I had was the cotton toe lining tearing over time and coming out.
Thoroughgoods are the first mocs I got, they are very comfortable and broke it very well. I got the safety toe and after a few days in the wear on my pinky toe went away and they feel like sneakers now.
I've used them for over a decade I haven't had any issues with the welt failing and I've worked in all kinds of weather.I really like the stay dry version. The installation is just enough to keep your feet warm in the winter but not make your feet hot in the summer so a great all year or every season boot.
Thorogood's are by far my favorite pair of boots I have ever owned. I have had their tactical and 6" moc wedge. Both were amazing and have held up for years. (still have the mocs, 5 years strong, look brand new) Nevertheless, I wanted to say that you mention these are shock proof like step shock proof, but they are actually both; which is yet another reason these are such amazing boots. They are ASTM F2413-18 and ASTM F2892-18 certified and will protect you against some live wires on the ground etc. These are a bit clunky and do take a bit to get used to if you switch from a Merrell free runner or something very light, but if you live in work boots, you will be right at home. I live in a part of the country that gets a fair bit of snow and these seem to do fine even in cold weather (no cracks) , but they do not do well on ice and their snow grip is .. so so. On an actual oil or slicked surface these are amazing and even wore my tactical pair in the kitchen for years , which were only surpassed by my Berkis. Thanks for making this review, I have always wondered about the outer welt. Now we know.
I have the thorogood roofers boot. No cracking in three years. Glue for the wedge sole is starting to give up a little along the edges of the sole. But still holding. Great boots. I like them better than my redwings.
I am on my 3rd pair of these boots. I wear them everyday for work. Love them as they are very comfortable from the start. I had the first pair resoled and when those soles wore out I bought a new pair. The stitching on the heel of my 2nd pair broke loose so when the soles wore out on that pair I just bought a new boots instead of resoling. I am about a year into my 3rd pair and the stitching on the heel of these are coming apart the same as my 2nd pair. Love the boot except for the heel stitching coming apart. Just watched your White Moc Toe review and am thinking about giving those a try for my next boot purchase.
Man, I wish I had found your videos sooner. I just a few weeks ago bought a pair of those Thorogood boots with the safety toe and EH rating. Plant work electrician. So far they have not disappointed. I’m indoors for the most part and on concrete slab.
Used to wear these when I was an iron worker. Most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn (mine were the 8in) but I gotta say they didn’t last as long as I’d hope for the price during welding and all that work. That being said if I ever buy another high end pair of boots it’s definitely going to be thorogood
On my Thorogoods the counter cover wore out in about two weeks. Had the local cobbler add a full length leather counter cover to it and I haven’t had any issues since!
I have Carolinas that are suspiciously identical to the Thorogoods. And I noticed the moc toe seems to be crimped-to-form vs my Red Wings that actually does stitch two pieces to form the moc seam. Great video. I would love to see you compare the Carolina to the Thorogood.
Hi, I wore a pair of these for a year or so, I initially thought they were better than the Red Wings but they just didnt last; the structure at the heel counter and toe cap failed and made them unwearable. The Red Wings will be coming up for their second resole soon and are still great. The thorogoods are a good tool boot, comfortable from day 1 but wont be around for a resole.
Great job on the review. Something that is escaping the reviews- toe box. I am on my 3rd pair of Thorogoods. My first was a warrantee replacement due to the toe box breaking. My motorcycle kickstand came down on my boot, which squashed the toe slightly (and momentarily), and broke it. Pieces were literally stabbing me in the toe, and it was obviously broken. This mishap was quick, was minimal in my opinion, and ruined the boot. Thorogood replaced the boots... but that pair has since fairly wore out in the sole. I replaced them with another pair, and was considering sending them to be resoled. After inspection, that weird welt is cracked in several places, and the toe is also broken (you can feel it from the inside). I think it might be a deal breaker for having them resoled... The toe support is some kind of a crappy shell that is too fragile for work boots!
I just bought a pair of the steel toe version of these same boots after getting a position at a shipbuilding yard. The retailer had at least a hundred safety boots available and these were the first I tried on, and they really did feel so great that I didn't get any further. After only three 10 hour shifts I think I made the right choice. Of course time will tell with overall durability, but I probably put at least 15 miles down in those three days hunting for missing parts laying around the yard and they get an A for comfort. I have some screws in my ankle/tibia from an Ti rod fixation and a lot of other boots cause a lot of issues where the screw sticks out. I can only imagine the supple leather has a lot to do here. I might just be a Thorogood guy for life.
Man thats crazy cutting boots in half much appreciated. I been considering some Thorogood's just because I have serious issues with delamination all the time...I subbed.
Ive had that boot for two + years never cleaned or conditioned them. I do remodel in Corvallis Oregon so the see a lot of rain as well as stepping on nails in such during deconstruction . I also wear them in the finish stages of a job because the soft sole is easy on new floors. It would be cool if you let me send you them and you could do a video looking at all the wear and how me conditioning and cleaning them would have helped.

Nice work. Thank you for reviewing our boot. Truly appreciate it.
I work on the railroad and I’m going on my 4th pair of 8in moc toes and I love them most comfortable pair of shoes I’ve ever owned
Best boots ive ever owned. IDK why they bothered comparing them to Redwings, lol, no contest there.
@@PetrosArgy Thank you for the comment and support, much appreciated.
Thorogood boots are the best boots I have ever had. I’ve had so many others and they don’t come close. Comfortable, good looking and durable. The best boots I have ever owned.

I have both a beard and boots. Seems like a simple match.
Hell yeah, Beardbrand represent 🧔🏻
I have been in my Thorogood boots for over a year as a power plant Operator without any issues. Best boots I have had for my work environment. Thanks for the video.
How’s the water resistance?
Waterproof is available, I have them, they’re totally waterproof, & especially if you clean them & re-oil them. Would highly recommend
Thanks people, I’m going to go for the water proof version with the extra lining 👍
It almost hurts to see the boots being destroyed but it is also satisfying to see how amazingly this boot is made. Great Video!
Just ordered me a pair of Thorogoods. Excited for them to arrive. Switching from Slip on cowboy boots to lace ups.
You won't regret it. Still wear my square toes around town but work in my thorogoods
Union taper here too! Ny
I definitely didn’t see anything wrong with it
Yeah plus some of those deals were spicy
Thanks I’ll be bringing them back for videos moving forward especially with all people saying they didn’t mind the sponsorships! It’s super cool to have your support and faith in what I’m trying to do!
thank you for posting what a few of us have been thinking... cheers!
@@RoseAnvil yea bring them back you got to make money bud.we enjoyed it as well.🤠
I’ve had my Thorogoods for 4-5 years now and I’ve worn them through everything. I just checked and the welt is still in tact, no cracks or anything
Wow!!!! My thorogoods last 2 at the very longest. Very nice!
same. worn mine 5 days a week for 4 years.
@D.J i work in R&D for a firearms manufacturer
I never really liked mock toe boots, but I have a new appreciation for them now lol
Just curious...what made you change your mind about moc toe boots? I have some acquaintances that really don’t like the aesthetics of moc toes. They strongly prefer round toe or cap toe boots. I like them all :)
I'm the opposite. I even bought a pair of vintage Doc Martens moc toe boots over their most popular black boots.
Not to mention Thorogood has their boot refurbish program. Basically new boots for ~$100!
I'm at a concrete plant and got the wedge sole do you think it will hold up well? Moc 8inch with wedge sole I didn't know it wasn't quite as durable as heel soles.
@@wesleym7927 it'll hold up fine for a good while, especially with the MaxWear wedge. Thoroughgood is famous for their long wearing soles.
@@Arto257 Thanks for the reply pal!!
@@wesleym7927 sorry it came a few months late brother. Hope you're liking the boots!
I’ve worn Thorogood boots for years. I’ve got three pair In different stages of wear. I love them and loved seeing you cut them in half. Very informational.
Yep. Steel toe when needed, and a moc for work and a nice pair of black mocs for when I need to be posh and dress nicely.
Been wearing thorogood boots for about 6 years and all I can say is that they're the best boots I've found on the market under $500. Guess Wisconsin just does it better
You betcha we do! Can't do the Kenosha rioting, and looting in cheap gear.
@@christopherw4527 they're real cheap if you loot 'em
@@Saw_Squatch LOL. Yep.
I just noticed a crack in my welt, should I be worried?
@@Saw_Squatch What the looters steal work boots, what do they do with them?
I find my steel toe version to be more roomy and comfortable than my non steel
Toed pair.
Saddle soap and a stiff brush, and then Hubbard's Shoe Grease.
I'd say concrete and related material dust/chems is one of the worst on leather.
Cutting up your own broken in boot, that is dedication. I am really looking forward to the direction of the Thursday book.
Thanks for your video very informative. I have the steel toe version of these as my daily work boots just got them and so far really like them.
Hands down my favorite actual work boot. I’ve got RW 875s and 1907s but don’t use them as hard work boots. I put my Thorogoods through hell though (roofing, laying tile, yard work, cutting fire wood, etc.)
Edit- also have had zero issues with the welts in both pairs I have. Cotton lining does go quicker than leather.
Did yours have the wedge sole like these?
The steal toe are my favorite work boots. I can use them for 8 hours and still feel comfortable on feet.
A crack in the welt?
@@RoseAnvil yes. A small one. Everything else (except the tread) is still perfect.
@@RoseAnvil that's where all mine crack. Sometimes you can see a seam or crack there, straight from the factory. They join the plastic welt together there.

1 year update? 😉
P.S
Thanks for helping me find my new work boots!
Sounds like rubber boots is the best option for your job. You'd save money.
I love my steel toe thorogoods! I'm glad you explained the discolorations as I love the different colors my boots show!
I’ve worn thorogood boots for several years and there my favorite
Next to whites , not to fond of redwing, no shade to redwings but I think it’s more for dressing up and not a tradesmans
That's pretty hilarious because whites don't even offer a steel or composite toe, I don't think you would know a serious work boot if one kicked you in the teeth.

Interesting take. When I was in the factory redwings were everybodies go to
I bought a pair of these about a month ago. After about two weeks of wear, they were a lot more comfortable than when I first wore them. I work in an auto assembly plant and I am on my feet for 8-10.5 hours a day. I did put a different insert for a little better arch support.
Hi. Very Surprised how they were made. And that Plastic Welt? I stay with Red Wing. Thank You for another Great Video.
My favorite Red Wings actually are plastic welted. The 2233 Supersole boots.

I had a pair of those for almost two years, the toes do wear out incredibly fast. Had to switch them out because I could see my toes
Thorogood boots are by far the best boots I've ever owned.
Y'all wear USA made Thorogood boots in UK? That's awesome 👍😂🍻
Before I got my Nicks I only wore thorogood. Every pair iv used for work the welt has cracked sooo bad.
I used completely disregard Sundays, now I expect them to get these videos. Plus these "series" are a great format.
I can’t believe this series got me to buy a pair of thorogoods 😂
Would love to see what the “origin” boot looks like inside.
Same. They aren’t cheap and I love the look of them. I want to see one sacrificed on this channel before I pull the trigger.
I'm a carpenter and have been wearing the Thorogood 8" mock toe boots almost exclusively for the last 10 years. They are absolutely the best/most comfortable boots out of the box that I have found. Usually last me about a year of everyday hard use before it's time to replace.

@Denis Palchak I want to think you are joking and not actually that stupid, but your profile leads me to believe otherwise.
@Denis Palchak You have a "libs getting owned" type playlist, yet you are posting a link to a satirical website making fun of right-wing conspiracy theorists.
Have had my thorogoods for three years used in landscaping.. most comfortable boot I've ever worn. Amazing comfort. Need a resole now..
I just bought my first pair of thorogood boots. Didn't have the wedge sole in my size but so far I'm happy with them. Thanks for the video
I’ve had an 8” pair and just switched to a 6”. Both steel toes. Love them for working on roofs. Soles last 8-9 months at best.
Are the soles better than the red wing? I want to buy a moc toe but i would prefer the one with better soles
Thank you you are the reason I just bought a pair of Thorogood boots 2 days ago. I bought the exact pair you're talking about today
As someone who wears work boots for work I love this series. Really cool. I would like to see you do this to the Keen Cincinnati
Have both the Thorogoods twice as comfortable. My throgoods are a few years old and are holding up much better than I expected.
Great boots for SLC snow packed sidewalk and outdoor steps . Good traction. Comfortable.
You are by far the best in explaining boots/sneakers
I have the 8” round toe and for being concrete all day they are hands down the most comfortable boot I’ve ever worn
