Well. The writing was on the wall. Going full-EV as an already niche brand with a stubborn reputation for catastrophic value retention and axing movers like Ghibli and Quattroporte is strategic suicide, particularly at these, shall we say, highly uncompetitive price points. Talk about laser-focused positioning. Edit - Jaguar, observing all this unfold: “Genius. Let’s do that, but with an extra dash of defiant controversy!”
Maserati’s cache was executive sedans and coupes with Ferrari engines under the hood. People paid a premium price for that privilege. I think the new drivetrains, including EVs, have left the brand being priced too high without offering anything special (or different) from the competing brands.
Oh yeah they halted sales right? Because of low demand. I liked driving the new 500e here in the states. But its for a very specific customer and for the low range it offers, its priced to high in my opinion.
@RonsRides yes, the demand is extremely low, you know we Italias are very attached to motors because of our colture and because we are very attached to tradition, i can tell you i speak for the whole italy rn, we would prefer hydrogen to electric and we all deeply hate electric so much that some of us even prefer to walk instead of getting into an electric vehicle, the only widely accepted EV is Tesla but everything else gets mocked and hated, we Italians are too connected to ICE engines to give them up, to this day the majority of us even want 2 stroke bikes to come back that should tell you a lot
@alfa7561 no it's not, hydrogen cars run on hydrogen and produce water and matter of fact that water is even safe to drink. we italians would have never made the 500e if it wasnt for stellantis, we Italians like our cars petrol, rwd and manual, remember that Italy made Alfa Romeo, a pilot of Alfa racing divison under Alfa approval and support made Ferrari, a farmer that wanted to outsmart Ferrari made Lamborghini and a rejected employee of Lamborghini made Pagani, not counting that Bugatti was founded by an Italian man that migrated to France, and that we had our hands in developing the Viper. even Fiat before going for international profit used to make Ferrari powered cars, yes, Fiat used to make cars with Ferrari engines, and Lancia before the Chrysler and Stellantis era use to make the Delta and the 037. to put it simply, the fact it's electric by itself the fact that it doesn't have any cylinders in the first place, is enough for us to not even consider it, and sales in Italy prove it.

Alfa and Maserati should take notes from BMW M. They’ve nailed the balance: integrating electrification to enhance driving without ditching ICE entirely. As a Stelvio QV owner and long-time BMW M enthusiast, Alfa and Maserati abandoning their high-performance ICE for EVs feels like a huge misstep-and a letdown for the loyal enthusiasts who love these brands.
No V8 will help them in Europe. The decline in EV sales for the first 11 months is 1.4%. Which is mainly due to artificial demand in Germany last year when the subsidy program ended with the year, so this year Germany is -26%, but for example another important market for the brand the UK is +17% for EVs. Over the same period petrol cars in Europe are down 6% and diesels down 11% ( which are a minority in the brand's portfolio). The brand simple does not have so economically strong fan base and is too expensive for normal people.

Stellantis' marketing plan if ever there was one failed miserably.
