Dude, I love your channel. You know a ton about all Jeeps... You are well skilled in making informative videos, without the extra music and crap we don't need. And the most important... is that you are quick to the point and don't ramble on and on.. Great job!!!
We just used your method to display our gears without having to be in manual. Thank you very much We are still waiting for our 600 page manual to learn these things. 400 miles so far. Be well.
Just made the change on my 2021 JL you made it so easy!!! We start the full build in about 2 weeks. Jeep will be on 37's when we get done with it. Thanks for all the videos they are very helpful and informational specially the Tazer I am going to do it myself now
Great job with this video! Thank you for sharing this with us! I have a 2012 Rubicon Unlimited that my wife and I shipped to the Island of Molokai a year ago. We need to buy another Jeep for use here in Utah where we live most of the year. I had wanted a JL Unlimited Rubicon with the diesel, but after driving two JL's and after rethinking other aspects related to the diesel, I've decided we'll soon order a 2018 JL Unlimited Rubicon. Thanks for your advice about the tailgate strength on the new JL's! I also like the way you showed us how to tell which gear the automatic transmission is in while on the road. P.S. I'll be 70 in March. My first car, purchased in April 1964 by my father, was a used Land Rover 88" 2.25 liter petrol station wagon. Drove Land Rover products for many years. My first Jeep was purchased via a factory order that arrived in April 2012. My wife and I now own two Jeeps, second being a 2014 Grand Cherokee Overland diesel. We'll soon be a three Jeep family. Even at my age, I can assure you and anyone else, I prefer driving a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon virtually anywhere I go! Jeep---and its employees---are doing a fabulous job building what I now believe are the best dual-purpose on-off road vehicles on this planet. The Wrangler Rubicons are at the top of the 4x4 food chain! Andy McKane, Springville, Utah.
I just love your videos. I have a Rubicon JLU on order (8 weeks). Same color as yours. Took one out for a drive today and I was so impressed. I have owned Jeeps for years . (YJ, TJ, Wranglers). I am taking the plunge to a U for the first time. I have ordered both tops, and the liners and every options possible. I found the leather seats awesome. I'll keep watching here while waiting....Cheers Al
Do not have my jeep yet but i rented a car 2 weeks ago with start/stop and hate it. It had no way of shutting off the start/stop. Glad i have that option. Not getting a tazer anytime soon.
So glad I came across your channel. Just got my JL a few days ago (owned a JK years ago) and have found your content informative, succinct, entertaining and invaluable. Many thanks. Subscribed!
Wow an informative no hype no click bait wonderful short and sweet video. Is this 2020? Thanks for the breath of refreshing fresh air! It’s what you tube used to be. You know back in it’s hay day. Where’s Ripley?!?
The auto engine stop and start design flaw is really horrible. I took my test drive back in less than a kilometer and got back my 2012 Wrangler Sahara Unlimited. I also still have an ancient 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ and a 1990 Jeep Wrangler YJ that needs a new transmission. The YJ I will likely sell. The TJ will be with me forever since it was my first new car purchase ever. The 2012 Sahara may be traded up if the JL is ever fixed.
The new JL has beefy axles. Thicker axle tubes, stronger brackets and outer C's massive. Front axle disconnect sucks though(Electronically actuated versus vacuum is better though). 220mm(8.66in) rear and 210mm (8.26in) front ring gears for Rubicon. The refined look has TJ appearance which is a good thing i think. New standard is 35in tire's and need no modding. Wouldn't be surprised running 37in tires without issues. All JL wranglers will have 3rd gen dana 44 rear axle. Ring gears will be different on non rubicons.
Great Q&A. Do these more often especially for repair question. Not everyone can afford $30K worth of upgrades on a $50K. It's interesting to hear the failures of the stock Jeep components. Thanks for all the great vid's. Ya'll are very fortunate to live in such a great off-road area!
I found out from a Jeep Engineer that the auto off for the engine is disengaged automatically when in 4L so you don’t have to worry about the engine cutting off when crawling over rocks!
I wouldn’t be surprised if it does just fine. It’s either the same or very similar transmission as to what’s in the RAM 1500 and hellcats/trackhawk. It’s quite a robust setup designed to handle both more power and more weight than this vehicle.

Got 2 questions. One regarding the engine cut off. Let’s say you don’t want the engine to cut off. Do you have to push that button every time you start the car or will it remember the setting you set it as before shutting the car off? Two. Regarding the proximity sensor. Will the Jeep actually put itself into Park if the proximity sensor is triggered? And does it get triggered if someone let’s say parks to close to you?
Wayalife thank you. The economy mode or whatever they call it seems like a good idea for now. Even better that you can shut it off for off-roading purposes. I was wondering about the proximity sensor because I think it was teraflex who covered it saying that if someone parked to close to you than the proximity sensor would kick in and throw you in Neutral and the only way to get out of it would be throwing it in 4 low which shuts it off. Anyways thanks for the quick reply. So far the JL looks nice. Can’t wait to see what aftermarket products come out for it. Still love my JK better though. Lol.
I know this is an old video, but question on the first point, which you may have addressed but I wasn’t completely clear. I can see that the JL tailgate is completely adequate to hold a larger spare, but is the factory plastic carrier? I have a SmittyBilt relocation bracket that I never used because I was worried about this, and have the option now to grab a teraflex adjustable carrier, but if the relocation with the stock carrier is fine, I’d rather save the money!
The rear seat cushion measures about 50" wide and 16" deep. Not 100% sure of the angle but it is about 2° more than the JK rear seat. I can find out for sure tomorrow if you really need to know. Overall, it's more spacious and more comfortable to sit in.
Krasnaludek can u make a video or link a video where it shows this?? I really hate that every time I hop in the truck, I have to remember to turn it off. Why can’t they just make it a feature on the screen/software to turn it off completely!?? I turn it off all the time, but the fact that it reactivates itself every time you turn off the truck, it’s a huge PITA!
I think it would be cool if you left the stock Rubicon axles on and ran 37’s with a basic lift. Do some actually testing of the new FAD and other components. Like the electric steering!
Great video! Thanks for answering those questions. I’m worried about the start stop tech. I figure it will put extra wear on your starter, alternator and battery. No bueno. Thoughts? Especially in rush hour traffic with lots of stop and go.
A certain amount of conditions need to be met for the start/stop to work. If you're in stop and go rush hour traffic where you're literally stopping for seconds at a time, your engine won't cut off. In fact, if you come to a complete stop and the motor turns off and then you start again only to stop again shortly there after, the motor will not stop again. It mainly turns off if you come to a complete stop like at a stop light or are sitting in place for more than a specified amount of time. I understand that this time can be adjusted somewhat as well. Of course, you can always just turn it off each time you start your engine.
Wayalife That’s great to know. I’m glad to hear they put some thought into that. Maybe I wouldn’t shut mine off if that was the case. Of course it would be very beneficial if you were stopped in traffic and not moving for long periods of time. Thanks for the enlightenment bro. One day when I get that diesel Jeep I plan on going on one of your group expeditions with my wife! Take care.
Hope to purchase a white JL Rubi as a towed vehicle for my class A RV. Your videos are very informative. If you can get any information regarding using the JL as a "TOAD", that would be very helpful.
On the 2017-18 Ford vehicles you can open up the dash and find the two wires to the switch and connect them together. After you connect them every time you start the vehicle it is like you have already pressed the button to disable auto stop/start. If you want you can hook the wires to one of the aux switches so you can turn it on/off but you will need to restart the vehicle after you flip the switch. On Fords you can put a dummy plug in the trailer power receptacle it will disable auto stop/start but it will also disable your rear view camera. These hacks may work on Jeeps but I don't know, my Jeep doesn't have that feature.
If you were going to tow your Jeep behind a motor home is there any modification that you wouldn’t do. We plan on living the RV life 6 months a year and want to wheel where we can. I’m also wondering how the EVO long arm mod would have running 37” tires on road? Love your educational content.
You have to disable it every time you start your Jeep. I should note that this isn't just a Jeep thing, it something that the government has mandated on ALL new vehicles.
Yeah I have seen it on other vehicles. I wonder what kind of extra strain it puts on the engine, starter, etc. You would think the starter at least would see an increase in replacement.
I wouldn't be surprised if you see the tuners allow disabling the feature in the future and/or someone coming up with a way to rewire the button to auto enable each time. I had this feature on a rental a few weeks go and honestly you quickly forget it is there.
Why is the autostop beneficial? It seems that would cause more stress on the ignition over time with frequently having to start every time the vehicle comes to a stop.
It's supposed to help with fuel economy. That being said, I don't know of a single person who's happy with it INCLUDING the engineers at Jeep. They were required to put it in.
Every car sold in the US will eventually have this feature to meet regs. Took me about 3 months to have the pressing of the disable button be the immediate thing I press (after ignition) unconsciously. It’s not really that annoying by my way of thinking
I noticed that on an f150 you could permanently disable ess by plugging a trailer test thing into the trailer plug to fool the truck into thinking its towing is this possible on the jl. Saw it on youtube with the f150
Can you tell me what is the rpm at 60 mph in 8th gear on flat terrain. Also is the rubicon gear ratio going to make the rpm different than the Sahara at the same speed? Thanks in advance, Roger Karstofsky Ps my question is relative to gas mileage on either model.
If you are ultimately worried about gas mileage for a Jeep Wrangler then you need to look for another less capable type of vehicle. Clearly shows me you you do not understand why one buys a Jeep Wrangler.
Wayalife i was referring at what speed would it shift to 8 in flat ground and what rpm it hold. Bummer on the dual then I guess the single should fit no problem. Thanks.
theflyerpr40d, I may be out of line but our JL Rubicon will be in 3rd or 4th across a larger intersection and 70mph is 1900 or 2000 in 8th. Our 2015 Hardrock was 2500 at 70mph.
What brand floor jack do you have? What brand are the yellow jack stands? Where would I place the jack stands on a gladiator if I wanted to do a spacer level? Thanks in advance!
Honestly, I just have stuff that I bought at Harbor Freight and a long long time ago. It's worked well for me. As far as installing anything suspension goes, you want to put the jack stands on the frame rails and close to the control arm mounts.
@@wayalife Thanks! This is my first Jeep and I want to do everything by myself so I can learn about all the parts and how to fix them if they break. I don’t have any mechanic buddies that live anywhere close by so I’ll be doing everything solo with the help of TH-cam videos like yours😊
Really appreciate all your info. Now on to my ? I’ve got a 2018 JL Sport with 345 gearing. Will I have to change my gears if I put 35in tires. It’s pretty much my DD with some light off road adventures. Thsnks
Can you customize the UI or anything on the display/ navigation? Can you even hack it perhaps? Can you put 35's or 37's on it and go up the hill so we can see what gear it is in and RPM and tranny temp and mpg?
I wouldn't doubt it or at least, I wouldn't doubt that someone will have a jail break for it. As far as additional gauges go, the Off Road Pages will have those features once it's available.
Does the instrument display always show some sort of exclamation mark or warning sign when the engine auto on/off turned off? I hate having sort of warning sign showing up making me feeling like the car is having problem. Thanks.
Thank you,for the information on the tailgate. I bought some new wheels and tires and the spare weighs 105 lbs. I put new bumpers on so that there’s no bounce on the tire. I’ve been wrestling with reinforcing the tailgate. Do you think 105 lbs is too much weight??
I have a question i have to assume the start stop system in your jeep with the 3.6 uses the conventional starter, the belt driven start stop in the 2.0 uses the belt to start the motor, when the belt gets full of mud or soaked with creek water will it slip causing the motor not to restart?
I have a question regarding installing swaybar disconnects. I drive a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU. I've added 35's with a 3.5" terraflex lift. What brand would you recommend for adding manual swaybar disconnects? Thankyou
Buy a house or get another Jeep? This is the only place I can safely ask this question because my wife would have my head otherwise. Thanks for these vids. Vicarious living is fun.
Just got the new JL Sahara. When I come to a full stop it will turn off but wont turn back on after releasing the break.. I have to put it on park then restart it normally.. is that how its suppose to work? Thanks
LOL - I suppose that's a video we should make someday. Long story short, Cindy and I have a love for exploring and there are few vehicles made that can take us to where we want to go or at least, as well in a Jeep. Over the years, they have brought so much joy in our life.
That's what comes on Rubicon's from the factory. No, no problem and the Recon comes with 35's. You just need to make sure that the sidewall of the spare is pressing firmly against the rubber isolator.
@@wayalife I should have said the JLU is a stock Sport S. I put 33s on my 17 inch wheels but was t sure about the spare weight capacity is it Still ok on 2018 Sport S? Thank you for the quick reply love your videos.
@@gcjctc2 Yup, it'll still work. Again, you just need to make sure that the sidewall of the spare presses firmly against the rubber isolator and you'll be good.
stop /start, no function , i off in a " d " drive for my mistake , another day , the baterie low deat ; rechargue mi baterie and not works , again start /stop you can help me ?
Eddie thanks for the work you have put in on these videos. I am really seeing my JKU in a dimmer light. Maybe time to sell my son’s TJ,let him take my JK and get a new one for me! The JL my be the first model of Wrangler that won’t have previous model owners hating on it like TJ drivers do JK’s.
Asking myself if Death Wobble will still be an issue?..i watched the Dynatrac video about the front axle and it seems that they improved a lot of weak spots. Greets from Europe.
Death wobble is a condition caused by lose or worn out steering and/or suspension components. Most typically, it is caused by a loose track bar or worn out ball joint. In the 25+ years I have been playing with Jeeps, I have personally encountered death wobble multiple times and have been able to fix it EVERY SINGLE TIME. Learn how to maintain your Jeep and you will NOT have a problem with it.
As stated in this video, the tailgate is designed to not only hold at least a 35" tire, it is ALSO rated to hold up to 85 lbs. of weight on the trail rail inside.
Found your website back when you were building the TJ, then the JK, now a JL! Looks like you're up in Carson, how is it there to live??? I'm thinking of moving there as I have friends there, and things here in Calif are not getting any better... I'm also thinking of finally selling my TJ and some other vehicles and maybe, just maybe picking up a JL Rubi. So I'll be tuning in on a regular basis to see your progress!
LOL! No way, you've been following that long - I'm impressed. Also, as you may or may not know, we're originally from SoCal. We moved here for all the same reasons you're thinking. Hope to see you running around in a JL soon :)
You may have already answered this but does the manual trans also show what gear one is in on the dash display? (not sure one would really need it but....).
Hi, thank you for your videos, Very clear information. Going to so the Fox 2.0 steering stabilizer just based on your video about it. Question for you if you're willing. I have a 37" on my JL 2018 moab with Terflex relocator that it came with. Tire and wheel 145 lbs. Since Teraflex does not have a hinge support for the JL's yet or at all, do you feel that 145 is too heavy for the hinges. From your video, it sounded like it'll hold the orig tire and wheel plus a fold out table of a significant weight. Should I leave the spare behind, I would rather not? Thank you.
Before you buy the Fox steering stabilizer, is there anything wrong with your OE one? If not, I might recommend that you just save your money until or unless you do need to replace it. As far as spare tire relocators go, I would NOT put a 37 on the tailgate UNLESS you make sure to install some kind of isolator extension that allows the sidewall of the tire to press firmly against it th-cam.com/video/ZNAYNrMKLxc/w-d-xo.html
Hey Eddie, I know it’s an old old video, but if you or someone else sees this, do u know of any way to turn off the start stop feature so it doesn’t reactivate by itself each time i shut off the truck. I hate having to remember to turn it off each time I start it back up.
37" deep x 41" wide x 41" tall. Now, these dimensions are just the immediate area behind the seat, between the fenders and to the top of the roof. There is still lots of room above the fenders and to the sides of the hard top but the roll bar is in between them.
Thank you SO MUCH for these measurements. I have a 2000 Nissan Exterra with lots of space and was looking at the JL as next vehicle. This was my #1 concern. Your responses to viewers are awesome!
Great video as usual! I do have a question though, can you make a video about the underside of the Jeep, things like axles, suspension, driveshafts, and differences between the JK and JL underneath? I ask because there are not that many videos about where all the magic happens, frankly as the interior is very nice, as compared to my 3.8 JK, underneath the jeep is what i really care about and should be a fun video to watch! I can't wait to buy one especially when the diesel comes out but still keep my JK. Thanks!
It's actually more like $800 when you include all the parts you need but they're brackets that reinforce the tailgate. If you're carrying a 37" spare tire, it is something worth considering.
how does the auto-stop/start really save gas? I thought the starting a car wastes as much gas as sitting at idle for the duration of the average stop light, or atleast that was the theory before auto-stop/start was a thing. Even if it did save gas wouldn't it burn up the starter?
Not sure on mods. Maybe a small lift to clear 37's. We'll have to see. Hoping to run the JL stock for a bit so that we have a good reference point. As far as where it might be weak goes, hard to say. Jeep did a good job of addressing a lot of previous issues. Possibly the FAD.
hey I'm a new subscriber who's very close to getting my own JL Rubicon. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. quick easy question, I'm not too fond of the red dash but I want the black seats. what might one do to cover/coat the dash. plastidip maybe?
Any chance of doing an in traffic road test with the Auto start/stop enabled vs similar drive with it disabled. Obviously poor mpg is not going to stop us from buying these rigs but I'd be curious to know if the auto start/ stop is actually effective if you leave it enabled. Thanks.
Great Vid @wayalife ! I'm curious about the lag with the start/stop feature. If you were to stop, let the engine shut off and then immediately mash the gas pedal, how quick does it respond?
Couldn't tell you individually but so far, my computer is telling me that I'm averaging about 16 MPG. That being said, I been doing a lot of testing on and off road and I live in an a mountainous/hilly area.
Great video Eddie!! Here’s a question for ya that I’m sure most people have been curious about: How do you think the aftermarket will handle the new license plate location with aftermarket bumpers, and given the fact the back up camera now resides where most people would relocate it to
Great question. From what I have seen, it is more than likely that some manufacturers will still relocated the license plate onto the spare only below or above the back up cam. I could also see aftermarket bumpers that have some kind of bracket that holds the plate up where it was on the JK.
Flightiness is a symptom of not having enough caster set. Being that the JL comes with an FAD system, you can add a lot more positive caster without having any ill effect.
My auto stop/start feature doesn’t seem to work at all. It keeps telling me that the battery is not fully charged even though I drive the JL everyday. Any suggestion as to why this may be?
So, I talked to a friend of mine at FCA and he said that you might have a bad battery cell or bad IBS (intelligent battery sensor). There's no way it could be the alternator as the Jeep would die.
I had some 33's on 17x9.5 Black Rhino's installed by a local #DirectOffroad shop on my existing stock JLU spare tire mount. The total weight of tire and rim is around 78#. My OEM tailgate bump stop is about an inch short of reaching the spare. Do you think I should extend the bump stop so it contacts the spare just to be on the safe side? I really haven't noticed any rattle and 99% of the time I'm on paved streets. Thank you.
Wayalife Thank you for the recommendation. I took your advice and just put on some Energy Suspension bump tailgate stops. They are manufactured for JK’s but with a little grease, I was able to push the nipples in the mounting holes of my JL.
Thanks! I learned a few things. That bit about the tail gate just saved me about $1000.
Glad to hear our video was helpful to you.
I just bought a 2021 diesel JLRU and had no idea about that current gear display, that's an awesome tip!

Excellent video as usual Eddie!
Thank you :)
I found out from a Jeep Engineer that the auto off for the engine is disengaged automatically when in 4L so you don’t have to worry about the engine cutting off when crawling over rocks!
Could you do a video talking about the manual transmission in the JL’s & Gladiators.
Is there something specific you're wanting to know?
The F150, if you buy a plug check for the trailor hitch. It will disable the auto engine off. Might work for the jeep also.
Good to know, thanks for the tip!
Love to see auto trans temperatures as you put larger tires on.
Agreed. It will be interesting to see for sure.

Some good info. Thanks for taking the time to share.

What about a 37” spare?
Still good with factory tailgate?
Or is there reinforcement that should be added that won’t break the bank?
So long as you make sure the rubber isolators are pressing firmly against the sidewall of the spare, the tailgate will hold up a 37 fairly well as is. If you do a lot of high speed bombing across the desert with hard hits, I would reinforce the hinges too.

This video might put your mind at ease th-cam.com/video/ZNAYNrMKLxc/w-d-xo.html
can you get some measurements of the back seat, would also like to know what angle it is, wanting to know if you can fit 2 car seats
The rear seat cushion measures about 50" wide and 16" deep. Not 100% sure of the angle but it is about 2° more than the JK rear seat. I can find out for sure tomorrow if you really need to know. Overall, it's more spacious and more comfortable to sit in.
Can you post a video of night driving with regard to how the LED headlights illuminate the road. Thanks!
It's definitely in the works.
Wayalife awesome
My first “mod” was to
Disable the stop/start under the hood ... by removing the actuator. 🙂
That's the plan.
The stop start features come back on after shutting the vehicle off, is there a way to disable it longer or completely?
Not currently but I don't have any doubts that there will be aftermarket programmers that will do just that.
You must disable auto stop every time vehicle is restarted.
Did you read my reply on how to disable it permanently?
rond361 I did now.
Im impressed with the JL 👍
It is really nice
If you were going to tow your Jeep behind a motor home is there any modification that you wouldn’t do. We plan on living the RV life 6 months a year and want to wheel where we can. I’m also wondering how the EVO long arm mod would have running 37” tires on road? Love your educational content.
"wouldn't" do? I can't say I can think of anything off the bat. 37's are what we're now running on our JL with EVO long arms. It's a great setup :)
Another excellent video. 👍
Does the auto start/stop setting hold when you turn off the Jeep or do you have to disable it every time you start the Jeep?
It does not hold but if you wish to permanently disable it you could probably get the dealer involved for a flash.
It wouldn't surprise me.
I wouldn't be surprised if you see the tuners allow disabling the feature in the future and/or someone coming up with a way to rewire the button to auto enable each time. I had this feature on a rental a few weeks go and honestly you quickly forget it is there.
Very informative and detail really looking forward to see the mod for Jet li and taking it out to moab.
Thank you, we're glad that you found our video to be informative :)
What about the back up camera with a larger spare tire....any mods needed?
The back up cam goes through the center of the spare. Size of tire will not matter how it mounts up.
I noticed that on an f150 you could permanently disable ess by plugging a trailer test thing into the trailer plug to fool the truck into thinking its towing is this possible on the jl. Saw it on youtube with the f150
Already tried it. Didn't work.
Can you tell me what is the rpm at 60 mph in 8th gear on flat terrain. Also is the rubicon gear ratio going to make the rpm different than the Sahara at the same speed?
Thanks in advance,
Roger Karstofsky
Ps my question is relative to gas mileage on either model.
If you are ultimately worried about gas mileage for a Jeep Wrangler then you need to look for another less capable type of vehicle. Clearly shows me you you do not understand why one buys a Jeep Wrangler.
Thanks, for the Nice Q&A.
I like your Videos so much. 👌🏽
Thank you, we're so glad to hear you're enjoying them :)
How fast for it to shift to the 8 and at what rpm? Also would the ARB dual compressor fit under the hood?
Thanks
I really doubt you could get an ARB dual compressor mounted up or at least, with ease. I'll have to time how fast it gets to 8th.
Hi Does anyone know how to engage Auto park back on? My Jl says auto part disabled.
Can't wait to see you run some bigger tires and get your thoughts on how well it handles.
Soon... very soon :)
@@1gx619 Awesome! You can do it 👍👍
Is there an option to turn off the dome light when the doors are removed?
Unlike the old TJ where you had to pull a fuse, once the wiring harnesses are disconnected from the doors, the lights stay off.
Thank you. Great episode
Glad you enjoyed this one :)
Really appreciate all your info. Now on to my ? I’ve got a 2018 JL Sport with 345 gearing. Will I have to change my gears if I put 35in tires. It’s pretty much my DD with some light off road adventures. Thsnks
With 35's, you should be fine especially if you have the 8 speed automatic.
Great idea to make these Q&A videos.
Glad to hear you liked it.
Does the instrument display always show some sort of exclamation mark or warning sign when the engine auto on/off turned off? I hate having sort of warning sign showing up making me feeling like the car is having problem. Thanks.
There is a green circle with the letter A in it that does show up.
Do you know if the magnesium is treated to reduce ignition?
Thank you,for the information on the tailgate. I bought some new wheels and tires and the spare weighs 105 lbs. I put new bumpers on so that there’s no bounce on the tire. I’ve been wrestling with reinforcing the tailgate. Do you think 105 lbs is too much weight??
So long as the spare is solidly isolated and there is no jiggling, I would think you are okay as is.
@@wayalife thank you
I have a question i have to assume the start stop system in your jeep with the 3.6 uses the conventional starter, the belt driven start stop in the 2.0 uses the belt to start the motor, when the belt gets full of mud or soaked with creek water will it slip causing the motor not to restart?
I have a question regarding installing swaybar disconnects. I drive a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU. I've added 35's with a 3.5" terraflex lift. What brand would you recommend for adding manual swaybar disconnects?
Thankyou
Of all the quick disconnects I have run, I have found JKS to be one of the best.
Buy a house or get another Jeep? This is the only place I can safely ask this question because my wife would have my head otherwise.
Thanks for these vids. Vicarious living is fun.
LOL!! I won't lie, these things are getting up there in price.
Do you happen to know how much weight does the steel bumper (as an option) adds to the overall weight of the vehicle on a JLU Rubicon
The factory steel bumper is made of stamped steel which makes it strong but is still light weight. It's not that heavy at all.
Great video,great info.
Thanks, glad to hear you found it useful.
Just got the new JL Sahara. When I come to a full stop it will turn off but wont turn back on after releasing the break.. I have to put it on park then restart it normally.. is that how its suppose to work? Thanks
Are the factory hinges strong enough to hold the weight of a 35?
Yes. They're strong enough to hold the weight of a 37
I have a 37 on mine. Bought the Teraflex Alpha HD to mount it, but that wasn’t any reinforcement, just for size. Pretty stable.
What made you get so involved in jeeps? and why do you love them so much?
LOL - I suppose that's a video we should make someday. Long story short, Cindy and I have a love for exploring and there are few vehicles made that can take us to where we want to go or at least, as well in a Jeep. Over the years, they have brought so much joy in our life.
So a 33 (285/70/17] spare weighing 60lbs would not be an issue mounted on a 2018 stock JLU. Correct?
That's what comes on Rubicon's from the factory. No, no problem and the Recon comes with 35's. You just need to make sure that the sidewall of the spare is pressing firmly against the rubber isolator.
@@wayalife I should have said the JLU is a stock Sport S. I put 33s on my 17 inch wheels but was t sure about the spare weight capacity is it Still ok on 2018 Sport S? Thank you for the quick reply love your videos.
@@gcjctc2 Yup, it'll still work. Again, you just need to make sure that the sidewall of the spare presses firmly against the rubber isolator and you'll be good.
stop /start, no function , i off in a " d " drive for my mistake , another day , the baterie low deat ; rechargue mi baterie and not works , again start /stop you can help me ?
awesome video
Thank you
Eddie thanks for the work you have put in on these videos.
Great videos, I'm just starting to do my research on the new Jeep JL. your videos are informative.. keep them coming! Thanks.
Will the tailgate hinges hold the weight of larger tires?
Did you get the V6 or 4 cyl engine in the JL ?
The 3.6L V6 was the only thing available when we bought our JL.
Can the Auto Stop Start be permanently disabled or do you have to hit the button each time you get in the vehicle?
You have to hit the button each time. This is something ALL new vehicles have now.
Yea, was just hoping manufacturers would start allowing it to be permanently disabled. Maybe an ECU mod down the road will be able to disable it.
I don't doubt for a second that something will be available to do just that and sooner than later.
Thanks for this nice video.
You bet, glad you liked it :)
Where are the connecting point for the aux switches?
They are under the passenger side dash. We will do a video on this as well.
You may have already answered this but does the manual trans also show what gear one is in on the dash display? (not sure one would really need it but....).
No, there is no PRNDL on a manual.
Well sure I know that:-) I was just wondering if there was some other gear indicaator in one of the menus for the manual...
A Tazer Mini will take care of it. I run one on my JT
My question is - What is the real world cargo capacity of the JL behind the 2nd row seat?
Not sure what Jeep states but I suppose I can take a tape measure and find the area of that space.
That'd be awesome. I'm looking at a Hardtop JL in the near future and was wondering how well it would do on road trips with all our stuff in the back.
Thanks!
LOL! Already have one in the works :)
Am wondering with the auto engine shut off does it do the same when 4 low is engaged ? Or do you have to turn it off when off road
I have not experienced the start stop when in 4LO
do you know what the option "Hinge-Gate Reinforcement by Mopar" at 675$ is??
It's actually more like $800 when you include all the parts you need but they're brackets that reinforce the tailgate. If you're carrying a 37" spare tire, it is something worth considering.
So the hinges should be okay for 35" tires right?
What mods can we expect for the JL?
In the relatively near future, a small lift and 37's. Long term, hard to say for sure :)
how does the auto-stop/start really save gas? I thought the starting a car wastes as much gas as sitting at idle for the duration of the average stop light, or atleast that was the theory before auto-stop/start was a thing. Even if it did save gas wouldn't it burn up the starter?
You got me. All new cars come with it now.
Thanks for the video, could you please measure the wind / road nois? BTW I'm still jealous 😎
What’s gonna be your first modification? Where do you think the JL will be weak on the trail?
Not sure on mods. Maybe a small lift to clear 37's. We'll have to see. Hoping to run the JL stock for a bit so that we have a good reference point. As far as where it might be weak goes, hard to say. Jeep did a good job of addressing a lot of previous issues. Possibly the FAD.
hey I'm a new subscriber who's very close to getting my own JL Rubicon. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours. quick easy question, I'm not too fond of the red dash but I want the black seats. what might one do to cover/coat the dash. plastidip maybe?
The red dash only comes on certain colors. Order a color that it doesn't come on and you will get a dark silver dash.
Any chance of doing an in traffic road test with the Auto start/stop enabled vs similar drive with it disabled. Obviously poor mpg is not going to stop us from buying these rigs but I'd be curious to know if the auto start/ stop is actually effective if you leave it enabled. Thanks.
We don't have much in the way of "traffic" where we live but I'll see what I can do.
6th gear on the highway, is it an 8th speed or not yet released?
6th gear doing 2600 RPM ON A MOUNTAIN GRADE - as in, going UPHILL
Great Vid @wayalife ! I'm curious about the lag with the start/stop feature. If you were to stop, let the engine shut off and then immediately mash the gas pedal, how quick does it respond?
I haven't done it yet but I have no doubt there would be a slight delay.
It delays a bit, jerks the engine back on. It’s a mechanical and safety issue due to this.
What is the average gas mileage are you getting? Around town and highway only? Thanks.
Couldn't tell you individually but so far, my computer is telling me that I'm averaging about 16 MPG. That being said, I been doing a lot of testing on and off road and I live in an a mountainous/hilly area.
Great video Eddie!! Here’s a question for ya that I’m sure most people have been curious about:
How do you think the aftermarket will handle the new license plate location with aftermarket bumpers, and given the fact the back up camera now resides where most people would relocate it to
Great question. From what I have seen, it is more than likely that some manufacturers will still relocated the license plate onto the spare only below or above the back up cam. I could also see aftermarket bumpers that have some kind of bracket that holds the plate up where it was on the JK.
Did your on road driving characteristics change after lift. Any flighty feel. My jlur is so smooth on road I’m apprehensive to lift it yet.
Flightiness is a symptom of not having enough caster set. Being that the JL comes with an FAD system, you can add a lot more positive caster without having any ill effect.
I purchased a 2019 jeep jl and noticed a slight lunge on starting and shutting the engine off. Has anyine else noticed this and is it normal?
My auto stop/start feature doesn’t seem to work at all. It keeps telling me that the battery is not fully charged even though I drive the JL everyday. Any suggestion as to why this may be?
So, I talked to a friend of mine at FCA and he said that you might have a bad battery cell or bad IBS (intelligent battery sensor). There's no way it could be the alternator as the Jeep would die.
The auto start stop on my manual transmission JL restarts the engine as soon as you apply any pressure to the clutch peddle.
I'm kind of surprised that the manual transmissions even have it.
Thank you.
I would. When you take your Jeep off road, the spare WILL jiggle and over time, it WILL be a problem.
Wayalife Thank you for the recommendation. I took your advice and just put on some Energy Suspension bump tailgate stops. They are manufactured for JK’s but with a little grease, I was able to push the nipples in the mounting holes of my JL.
How big of a lift are you gonna go with
Hard to say. We prefer to run as low as possible. On our JK's, we run 40" tires with just under 4" of lift but then, that requires a LOT of trimming.
I can't wait to see this jl get built. Your jeeps are wild bud
