Look at the shape, the placing of the bridge, the trenches on the sides, the engines partly inside the outer hull plates. You have seen this design before. You know it means power, it means dominance. You have been trained, conditioned since childhood, since your earliest memories of scifi that there is only one correct reaction when you see this behemoth gliding over you: Fear.
I started over half of a year ago. Now I own 10 ships, two of which are Anacondas, one is a Cutter, one is a Corvette. The Type-10 is being added soon.
Anthony Field - I dont know how long you'll last before the game burns you out, so I'll try to give you a few tips to make your time "easier". Mining is by far the best way to make money in the game. The sooner you get better at combat the more enjoyable the game will be, but without engineered ships youre gonna be on the receiving end most of the time. Highly recommend engineering your ships as soon as you can, and just look at the requirements for unlocking engineers and push for those goals. For engineering you need manufactured, encoded and raw materials. For manufactured materials you need to go to high population Empire systems (I recommend jumping between CD-63 201, Dimor, Hirapa, Benambo) and farming High Grade Emissions for Imperial Shielding, which then you can trade for other manufactured materials. For encoded materials go the Jameson Crash Site in HIP 12099, with your SRV park in a place from where you can scan all 4 beacons. After scanning all 4, quit to your main menu, log back in to the game and scan all 4 beacons again. Repeat this until your Atypical Encryption Archives and Adaptive Encryptors Capture are full, and you can trade these for other encoded materials. Keep repeating this process until you filled up all your encoded materials or for as long as you want. Starting from the nearest system/station with an encoded material trader which is about 100ly away, one full run will take you about 40 minutes. For raw materials its gonna be a rough ride, you need to find landable planets with geological signals, and with your SRV drive around and pick up any materials you can. OR if somehow you manage to build your ship in a way that gives you a 50ly jump range, you can get to the crystal shard sites in HIP 36601 planet C 1 a, C 1 d, C 3 b, C 5 a (these are biological sites not geological) and the other system Outotz LS-K d8-3 planet B 7 b, B 5 a, B 5 c. The first system is about 1500ly away, and the other is several hundred ly away from the first one. Its gonna be a long journey IF your ship has the jump range in the first place, if not, then stay in the bubble. In open play I recommend staying away from Shinrarta Dezhra system, in fact I recommend playing in Solo until youve got several hundred hours behind you playing. I also recommend ranking up in the Federation and in the Empire. For the best combat ship which the video is about, the Corvette, you need to rank up in Federation. For the best trading ship (Imperial Cutter) you need to rank up in Empire. It might be tempting to buy the Type 9 Heavy because it requires no ranks, but its a trap. You will be interdicted by absolutely everybody, and it barely has any weapons, your experience will not be a pleasant one if you decide to trade with a Type 9. Thats why you need to go down on the hell of a grind and get a Cutter. But before getting these youre probably gonna use a Python for hundreds of hours, and then an Anaconda. Other things that will help you big time are the third party websites called inara dot cz and eddb dot io, and for ship building coriolis dot io And also youtube channels like ObsidianAnt, Down To Earth Astronomy, EDTutorials by Exigeous and etc.
I haven't spent nearly as much time in my Corvette as I'd like, but man there is nothing like hearing the unremitting thump of two class 4 multi-cannons going off over your head. The bit where you talk about how something speaks to you and makes you feel being a work of art was, well, beautiful. Thank you for making this series, it's been a joy to see. I'm very much looking forward to whatever you do next.
When i first saw this ship it saved me and i thought it looked like a shining sword cutting through the dark celestial sky! So when i was grinding as hard as i could and when i finally got mine i named it the Sunset Broadsword, to never forget when i first saw this beautiful behemoth.
I can imagine a convo between the Federation bigwigs. "I have an idea for a top of the line battleship!" "Well, what is it then?" "What if you took a Farragut battlecruiser, but then you compact it to the size of an Anaconda?" "Uhh.." "But wait! There's more! It'll be far more nimble than a full-blown cruiser, and the hardpoints are built in such a way that firepower is a lot more concentrated!" "Actually, that's not a bad idea." "Also you can ram into other ships and knock them off-course." "You get a promotion! You also get a promotion! Everyone gets a promotion!"
"Love. Talk 'bout all the math in the Verse, you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off, sure as turnin' the world. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tell you she's hurtin' afore she keens. Makes her a home."
All the familiar voices praising the ship, the music, the editing, explosions, the hype train building.... and Obsidian Ant just "nope". I had to pause the video because I was laughing so hard. Very nice series and I look forward to what you make next.
"I can say [it speaks to you] because it spoke to me, and I've seen it speak to others. And when something is able to do that through how it looks, what it does, or how it makes you feel... Then there's a name for that: a work of art." One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. A work of art in and of itself.
I don't have the corvette and I don't think I ever will but hearing about it still gives me the rush that "one day I will to pilot this ship". The sheer amount of euphoria I get just by thinking about the ship THIS ship is just mindboggling and almost brings me to tears as to how amazingly awesome way people actually present this. I have no words. No words I can physically say can explain this feeling. Thank you for this video.
You do have a point but so do I when I say I LIKE the fact that this big ship, can take more damage and dish out more but is vulnerable to smaller dedicated war ships used by better pilots. That IS balance. Just having ONE ship dominate in all areas of combat, all the time would indeed be an utter failure on the games part. What you see as a weakness in the game I see as its very strength. You still get a lot with the Corvette. It can do many things if not all. It can fight and transport valuables well. Of course ships purely honed to kill should be able in talented hands to beat it. As in WWII air or tank battles, the plane or tank DOES matter but the pilot using it even more. I think it is perfect as is!
@ThePilot_ I just thought I should let you know, these ED Ship Reviews are more then reviews, they're art. I come back to them every time I get back into ED, and I watch every single one. They make me laugh, get goosebumps, watch in awe, and sometimes tears bubble up. They get better every time I watch them, and so many of the lines stick with me. You make fantastic work, and YOU are amazing. o7 CMDR.
Good to see that all the modules on your corvette are wanted. I'm sure every corvette owner has been in that situation more than once. Thanks for the wild series and making the game a little more awesome in the process.
So I just finished grinding the unlock and outfitting for this ship about an hour ago. Was searching for battle music when I found this. Oh boy I can't wait to try it out. Also love your work! Watching your cutter video actually made me pick up this game. Spent the first month of lockdown grinding for it.
I literally watched all of these looking for this specific video. The Corvette is my favorite ship for any large ship engagement. I do enjoy my kraits for other tasks from time to time, but I can tell you that the feeling of pride when you finally unlock it, and do all the work and research to outfit it just the way you want... I've never spent so much time engineering, or caring so much about the engineering of any other ship in the entire game, and I've logged over 1800 hours. The grind was difficult, and more difficult then than it is today, but I won't forget purchasing it and absorbing every moment of the transaction. The accomplishment felt was real, and everything described in this video of people who's experienced it and loved it is absolutely true. I have different ships for different purposes, and even bought multiple kraits to have different outfitting for whatever task at hand... but I will never ever buy more than one Corvette, because all I needed was one. I'm glad to see you enjoying it and hope you enjoy it as much as any of the folks in the video did. It's definitely one of the most special.
i also got the federal corvette a long time ago now and i don't have the patience to grind to get everything A rated since i don't do PVP i don't get destroye
That was magnificent, and a perfect end to a fantastic series. I feel like I need a cigarette after watching that, and I don't smoke. The Corvette isn't my favorite ship, but it is the first ship I ever bought two of, and the 8 months I spent building my beloved AX Corvette represent the most effort I've ever put into a single goal in any videogame ever. I loved every minute of it (well, mostly), and it paved the way for every ship I've built since. One critique of your video: you don't walk out onto the battlefield in a 'vette. You stride like an angry god.
This is probably my favourite Elite Dangerous video. As a Corvette pilot... I love it. It showcases everything great about the corvette as well as the downsides. It's honest.
when he said "theres a name for it" i thought he would have said "Iconic". Great vid been waiting for this. your vids are one of the reasons i started playing ED again.
It took me a few years to get my Vette. Obviously playing on and off made it a lot longer than it had to be. I made sure to use the Anaconda to grind almost all of engineer's before buying the Vette. But I can honestly say that no ship brings a smile to my face more. I've overthrown entire systems on my own using this ship. And I'll continue to use it until my last day in ED. I don't PvP so this ship is a complete bomb. I'm so happy this video has finally been made. Props to you sir
Oh my god yes. I was waiting for this ever since the "Cobra MkIV" video. I was preparing. I thought I was ready... I was not ready. Especially not for the ending.
Thank you for the series, a beautiful companion to the game. Hopefully this isn't the last we hear from you and again thank you for your effort and time. o7 CMDR
Being an Imp player and doing the Fed grind anyway to have this ship. I painted it white, put Imperial decals on it, and named it the Benedict Arnold. And yet, given the choice between the Cutter and the 'Vette, I still prefer to take this one out more. I just don't feel the weight in the Cutter like I do on this ship, it feels like it looks, and that feeling is great. This was superb, and I can't wait to see what you are going to do now that the ships are finished.
This appeared one day about two weeks ago in my Recommended feed during a Rona Romp through the bowels of TH-cam. Since that time I have come back to this video no less than six times, and watched it in full, completely enraptured. I've by now watched the whole series and I can say that this is the most evocative of the bunch - 4:47-5:30 is enthralling, drawing the viewer into the moment. Masterfully done. So much so in fact, that this video was the primary motivator to my Elite purchase ten minutes ago. I hope you're still flying the black, Pilot - Fair winds and following seas, sir.
It was worth getting this ship. I've been thinking of getting a second one to work on to make into an explorer. Just going to take time on it. It's been an awesome adventure watching these videos Pilot. I honestly can't wait to see what is next for you.

If anyone was on the fence about getting a corvette you definitely changed their mind. I got goosebumps thinking about my first time in a vette. You described it perfectly.
There was that chart a commander made a few years ago that had about 60 odd occupations in elite maybe a series on those could even reach out to the player run factions doing said occupations. o7
Frontier should seriously start looking at content creators to create videos/reviews in game. A review video like this for each ship would be a really cool addition when scrolling through the shipyard.
The Corvette is the most amazing combat ship in Elite. This ship has never failed me, and after nearly 3,000 engagements and a month of flying, I have never once lost my shields whilst flying my Corvette even when facing of against Elite Anacondas and Dangerous Corvettes. Words can never do this ship justice...

Really, it's a good miner? I know it has cargo space and way better maneuverability than the Cutter, but I thought the jump range would be a killer. Still, I suppose it'll work if you find a good run.
you know once it was midnight and my dumbass made an exploration corvette, got about 40 light years out of it and traveled to colonia for the next two days, the trip was nice and got some nice pics.
Only 1 from each engineer, but if if you've gotten all of the engineers unlocked and ranked, you can do a great deal of engineering without ever visiting anyone.
there is a post somewhere on reddit about the optimal engineer to blueprint to give you pretty much everything blueprinted so you wont have to go out of the way unless you need experimental effects, but you gotta have them all unlocked, except for colonia i believe
The Corvette is a dope vessel .. i think its physical appearance really gives off a military vehicle vibe more than the civilian and aristocratic vibe of other ships .. i like the empire ships they are pretty but they are not as imposing as the corvette i think core dynamics ships look aggressive they are built to project military might.. the anaconda is intimidating in a barroom brawler way and the empire ships are like supermodels that know kung fu 😁
Its only semi useful imho, because you can neither convert legacy mods nor put experimental effects on mods from afar. So effectively, you still gotta make the trip to the engineer, regardless of weather you have the correct blueprints pinned or not.
As someone who just got his Corvette back from his old console account, I choked up when you called it a work of art. Because that's exactly what it is. Having flown the Vette, The Krait and the anaconda, The Corvette and Krait are easily my favourite combat ships, and my anaconda is just there for mining, because it turns like a zeppelin, to the corvettes heavy fighter like handling. (still a massive ship, but infinitely more manoeuvrable than trying to turn a beached whale) and the Krait's versatility and handling in a much smaller package, and its epic jump range.
This series has been my Go To for some time now. It's been flawlessly narrated, brilliantly edited and I swear each of these vids have a soul. Thanks again for reigniting my interest in Elite. Your videos are always so well made. This one especially, getting really recognizable voices from the community who all have the same thing to say about this iconic ship. Plus the choice of music and editing. So epic. Gives me chills all over each time I watch it.
Although it's not. I have a type 10 with engineered fsd and everything like military composite Armour and all but only using it for emergency cash need with mining which can make you about 200 mil in an hour. It's perfect for mining. I don't even have a shield booster only collectors.

I have to say, I watched the whole series last year, when I was getting into ED, to get a feeling of the game, without knowing much of the ships but thoroughly enjoyed the show. Now that I am approaching my first 1000 hours of game time (or wasted time, if you please), and I have first hand experience of (almost all) the ships, I have come back to watch all the reviews again and, man, have I enjoyed them even more! Whether I agree or not with your reviews, these are among the best pieces of user content created, and they should appear on the holo-ads in the major star ports!
Always enjoy your videos man, and having always been in love with the Corvette, it being my, as you put it the same way I try to explain it, nigh invincible PVE flagship. I love warping into conflict zones and getting swarmed by the entire spec ops team plus 4 or 5 additional dangerous+ adds and wiping every one of them from the field while still having half my shield cell banks leftover. This ship is so good fully engineered in PVE that it can honestly make combat boring due to the sheer destruction it causes. Keep up the great vids man🤙🤙

You have seen this design before. You know it means power, it means dominance.
You have been trained, conditioned since childhood, since your earliest memories of scifi that there is only one correct reaction when you see this behemoth gliding over you: Fear.

Welcome to the party!

@@e2rqey UpIsNotJump made the best video on that. This game is spectacular in VR.
Other things that will help you big time are the third party websites called inara dot cz and eddb dot io, and for ship building coriolis dot io
And also youtube channels like ObsidianAnt, Down To Earth Astronomy, EDTutorials by Exigeous and etc.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR OVER A YEAR. FINALLY MAN
Me too.

Thanks for the series. I keep recommending it to anyone who asks a question about any of the ships.

7:27 - Hold on! You can have more than 1 blueprint pinned at a time?

Having flown the Vette, The Krait and the anaconda, The Corvette and Krait are easily my favourite combat ships, and my anaconda is just there for mining, because it turns like a zeppelin, to the corvettes heavy fighter like handling.
