With Megumin, you might want to swap specializations to the pyromancer origin from Plane Shift: Kaladesh. Makes things burn very well... For other spells, despite not exactly being something that fits the only casting Explosion, some self only spells would actually fit rather well such as Mage Armor and False Life (If you want to mess with spell lists, Aid is another that would work for eating up spell slots there), with hours of effect that wouldn't be popping up during a fight. Theoretically, you might also add a custom feat. Desperate Spellcasting Prerequisite: Must be able to cast spells. Benefits: +1 to Constitution, may not raise above 20. When casting a spell that deals damage or heals damage based on a die roll, you may use your bonus action to immediately enhance the spell by using your own vitality. You may increase the damage dealt or healing granted by spending your HP, for every 2 HP expended this way, you may increase the damage or healing by 1, up to the maximum possible damage or healing for the spell plus your spellcasting score. Spells enhanced this way that would normally have a casting time of a bonus action are increased to taking an action. This may not reduce you below 0 HP, if you are reduced to 0 HP, you fall unconscious but stable after you cast the spell.
i think it makes more sense for megumin to be using Overchannel from the Evocation wizard to fall over, instead of literally setting up something for her to paralyze herself with no benefit
And here we see the chief weakness of character generation in D&D, when you want to play a character based on 'X'; Whenever you want to make the character more mechanically accurate, they become less flavor accurate. Sure, giving Kazuma the 1 extra reroll by being a halfling is more accurate to his broken-tier Luck stat, but the flavor cost of changing his race for, what was exclaimed in one of his verbal sparring matches with Megumin, Kazuma was only 4 cm under the Japan Male National average for his age, is just 'too damn high!'
I am running a konosba campaign where all the players started at lvl 5. Megumin started with a staff that lets her double cast spells in exchange for losing half her movement speed til next long rest being knocked prone, and not being able to use a move or action next round. Darkness was given a -3 Greatsword that grants 2 A.C. Aqua got a raiment that attracts undead and doubles the CR of undead she can destroy with turn undead. And kazuma got a +1 shortsword. Also, Megumin is a sorcerer who converts all her spell slots to lvl 3 at the beginning of the day. Usually gets 5 lvl 3 slots and 10 meta points now that she's lvl 6. (Soloed a treant because the party said it was to powerful for explosion/double fireball to kill) Darkness has acquired a shield of missile attraction. Aqua's player is ironically the most competent (has DM'd before) and carries the team, on top of now holding the most gp. Which Aqua will find she put into a bag of devouring next session. (Shop keeper literally said "was that my bag of devouring or bag of holding" in front of her) There's also an intermittent player who plays Yunyun, she has a "notice me not" ring.
For Kazuma, I imagine that one (or 2) things that could really put the cherry on top for Kazuma's luck would be 3 levels in Fighter for the champion 3rd level subclass feature (allows you to crit on 19 or 20). But if you somehow don't have enough time or level space for it, 1 level in hexblade Warlock can give you a similar feature but you can only crit on a 19 with the Hexblade's Curse feature but only once per short (or long rest) rest (and you need at least a 13 in Charisma to muilticlass in warlock if we are using official muilticlass rules here). Other than that, 2 levels into barbarian can give us Reckless Attack, which (all be it give enemies advantage to attack you, but also) give your attacks advantage (but just like Warlock, you need a 13 in Strength and Constitution to muilticlass).
The main basis for the story is from the Web Novel, where Megumin is 18 as far as I'm aware. I have no idea why they changed her to 14 in the anime or Light Novel.
I mean it's possible, You might need to use some optional rules, Such as Firearms (I'd also let Megumin use the Spellpoint table to create 9th level spellslots using sorcery points)
Imagine a team subsisting of Naofumi, Kazuma, and Ainz. They'd be unstoppable since each member of this group would contribute something except Ainz is clearly the strongest fighter of the 3 people but he's also the most modest one He doesn't need Naofumi's Shield Magic since his HP and Def is already maxed out but he'd humor him and follow thru with the team dynamic but being the brute force of the unit. Kazuma is the distraction. The bait.
I'm definitely in the Konosuba crowd. Love these builds, been meaning to run a oneshot with the orihinals for a while, now it's a toss-up berween them and these. It's a shame to see when the races don't match up because of mechanical reasons, but what you gonna do?

Why not just make the explosion be on a cursed item, lets Megumin only use the one spell (have her in some non-casting class) and automatically paralyzes her. Also Megumin is the Loli-Lina

For Darkness, I think the accuracy issue would come down to role-playing. We can see her hit targets with perfect accuracy if hitting the target will result in pain to her, such as bombs.
I'm lowlowLOW-key trying to assemble a female version of, definitely, Gaara or _maybe_ Kakashi or Sasuke from Naruto for my next character. I know the obvious is monk, right? But I feel like my boys deserve better than that. _Help_ lol
What you want to ask yourself is if you wanna be more character related or build related, you can always play a bard and make it behave like gaara, however if you want to have similar abilities then that's something else, you would have to focus like Blaine here what abilities or spells come more similar to those characters, Kakashi and Sasuke are kind of easy, bard, sorcerer, eldricht knight, warlock, any class with illusion or enchantment spells works great for sharingan shenanigans(a simple charm person for example) gaara would be trickier, both for the impenetrable defense and amount of sand needed
I have no idea about Gaara, but Sazuke and Kakashi should be doable. I think multiclassing would be your best bet. They need a few levels of monk for the taijustu. The copying ability of the sharingan seems a bit more difficult. Maybe use a bards ability to pick spells from each class and with magic initiate, you can get some nice spells that are similar to the ninjutsu and genjutsu. Chidori for example is just shocking grasp.
For Gaara, Circle of the Moon druid should work, since at higher levels you can turn into an earth elemental. For Kakashi or Sasuke, 14th level Arcane Trickster rogues get a spell thief ability that could be flavored as Sharingan, as well as access to Shocking Grasp and some low level illusion spells.
It takes a lot of deliberate self sabotage to cripple Megumin after casting. To bad there isn't a way to give 5 levels of exhaustion in exchange for a power boost (without homebrew).
was looking at Megumin, (considering whole party is like lvl 5 or so) having her cast Meteor Swarm could be possible at her low lvl's, without having to use other spells to give her a penalty. This would be having part of her spell cost reduce her con down to 0 for a given time (like 12hrs followed by a long rest), this wouldn't knock her fully out but would make her unable to move. As she refuses to cast (let alone learn) any other spell, she can have meteor swarm as a spell like ability rather then a spell that's castable 1 time per day, and have no spell slots. Yet she can still learn meta-magic feats that will boost meteor swarm, and be able to cast it 1-2 extra times per-day given certain requirements are meet (such as when Kazuma used drain touch to give her more magic power letting her cast explosion 2 times in one day).

Well actually in seriousness crimson demons can use normal single word spells it’s just that they’re chunibyous so it’s personal preference how long it takes to cast said spell. It’s why megumines chant is different every time time she uses it.
I use contingency all the time on my character to have them just throw npcs off with every last fight like Having (can't remember spells name but makes you fake being dead and take half damage from nonmagic sources) whenever my character is sneak attacked. Which resulted in an assassin thinking he killed him and to walk away only for my character to get up 3 hours later and scare the assassin as I walked in on him getting paid as he left his knife in me and I wanted to return it to him. Assassin: "I stabbed you through your spine while you were asleep how are you alive?" Me: "oh you need to hurt me if you want to wake me up from my bed." Assassin: "wait what?" Me a shadow magic sorcerer with the trait I barely bleed even from severe injuries and dm ruling due to that and being immobile for 3 hours the would was a scab by then and the crits damage got halfed as the contingency made it take effect the moment the blade entered my characters body. The assassin then in an attempt to fulfill the contract rushed at my character stabbing him with a poison covered dagger. Failed con save causing another contingency as I became paralysed by the poison and a resilience sphere appeared around my character and lasted long enough for me to get back up. The fight kept up with the assassin triggering effects after kicking my feet out from under me, grappling me, and when he disarmed me. The assassin gave up and told his boss he quit, looked to my character and asked how much he'd pay him to kill his old boss. My character intimidated him telling him how if he didn't work for him for free he would use a combination of spells to murder him in a way that would be impossible to track

Yeah, rather than look up what dwarves get specifically, I only researched the penalty for being a tiny character and figured Dwarves suffered from them. The pinned message fixes things, and Darkness could either wear Heavy armor, or start off as a Halfling!

i love when people ask why you like a character then put there age, not realizing you where there age when you first saw the show or when the show came out.
Blaine The only problem with darkness right now is a Dwarf is a medium sized creature (like a human or elf) that stands between 4-5 feet tall, to be small and get the disadvantage trait when using heavy weapons you would need to be a creature like a halfling, gnome, gobbo etc.
For megumin, also look into the tiefling feat flames of phlegethos. Rerolling any 1 on a fire damage spell can make sure you don't just make a small "poof" on bad luck. Have not done the math tho yet vs fury of the small.
Although I will generally say about the whole konosuba thing.. I think I've said all this before but I'll go for it again. I think it's a bit more interesting to take the spirit into account more than the numbers. Darkness: Crank her Con as high as possible, use Great Weapon Master for that -5 +10 trade.. And remember that barbarians can use Reckless attack to get advantage in exchange for enemies taking advantage against you. Yeah you're hitting way more than darkness ever did, but with the "Masochistic Defender" thing she has going on, I wouldn't be surprised if she was more than willing to take that penalty because she already likes getting hit, and she can basically use getting hit more as a tactical advantage. Also a Paladin Barbarian mix could work well too, using the barbarian dip for Reckless Attack and combining your essentially doubled crit chance to make deadly smites, and using lay on hands to keep her in the fight longer. Megumin: Evocation Wizard works perfectly for Megumin because of a little thing known as Overchannel. at 14th level you can take any spell of 5th level or lower (Which includes casting Fireball at fifth level) and completely maximize its damage (using that level 5 explosion, 10d6 turns to 60 damage). Use it once and you're fine, use it twice and take 2d12 necrotic per level of the spell (or 10d12 if you were to cast 2 level 5 fireballs, which I'd say that 120 (60 if they pass both saves, 90 if they pass 1 save but not the other) is definitely fitting for megumin) damage to everything in a 20 foot radius over 2 turns) That much necrotic damage might just kill you outright if you aren't careful, but that certainly seems fitting enough for a fireball that literally takes its caster out of the right but deals massive damage. Aqua: Honestly I can't really change anything about that just because it kinda just works. Although I'd also note that a Divine Soul Sorcerer could be more fitting to someone who is ACTUALLY A god rather than worshipping one. and it'd make her charisma focus make more sense mechanically. Kazuma: Again can't really say I have anything specific to change about it, since I really like the "oh by the way I can just get 5 free rerolls that I can use just whenever"
I would make funny home rules to create these characters. For example: Megumin Class: Crimson Witch Can not learn spells in any way if not class spells automatically learnt by leveling up. At Lvl 1 she learns the spell Crimson Witch Bolt Crimson Witch Bolt Evocation Level: 1 Casting time: 1 Action + Concentration Range: 30 feet + 3 per level after lvl 1 Components: V, S, M (a twig from a tree that has been struck by lightning) Duration: Concentration, up to 10 rounds + 1 round per level Number of uses: Once per short/long rest A beam of crackling, blue energy lances out toward a position within range, forming a sustained arc of lightning between you and the target position. The caster starts chanting the spell, during the chanting, a large magic circle appears under the caster and in the direction she is casting the spell, if the chant is stopped, the spell is cancelled and can be used again. The spell deals 1d12+Int Fire Damage on a 9-Feet radius for each full round she did concentrate on chanting the spell, including the first round. Anyone caught in the explotion can make a Dexterity Saving throw to avoid half the damage. The blast is so powerfull that anyone outside the explotion on a 9-Feet radius (from the border of the explotion) must do a Fortitude Saving throw and are pushed away 3 feets from the blast on a failure. After casting this spell, the caster is paralized untill she takes a short or a long rest
Can you imagine how annoyed the DM would be with every time Darkness being hit she gets aroused. That would quickly get annoying in old. And I wonder if Aqua is truly useless in D&D? And how good could megumin be if she's only good for a one-time explosion? Although be fun playing as the Rogue Thief, constantly stealing things like panties from NPCs and other players.

He doesn't need Naofumi's Shield Magic since his HP and Def is already maxed out but he'd humor him and follow thru with the team dynamic but being the brute force of the unit.

It took her a day of actively purifying the gator lake, i dont think her ability is strong enough for the river styx.

Why not just make the explosion be on a cursed item, lets Megumin only use the one spell (have her in some non-casting class) and automatically paralyzes her.

I think you are mistaken, Dwarf don’t get size penalty and labeled as “medium” (can use large weapons).

Yeah it was adamantine, but it was pieces of armor being held by cloth. Blaine is right darkness commissioned that armor to fall off, she doesn't even need the damn thing her flesh is tougher than any armor in existence!

For Darkness, I think the accuracy issue would come down to role-playing. We can see her hit targets with perfect accuracy if hitting the target will result in pain to her, such as bombs.

I'm lowlowLOW-key trying to assemble a female version of, definitely, Gaara or _maybe_ Kakashi or Sasuke from Naruto for my next character.
I know the obvious is monk, right? But I feel like my boys deserve better than that. _Help_ lol
What you want to ask yourself is if you wanna be more character related or build related, you can always play a bard and make it behave like gaara, however if you want to have similar abilities then that's something else, you would have to focus like Blaine here what abilities or spells come more similar to those characters, Kakashi and Sasuke are kind of easy, bard, sorcerer, eldricht knight, warlock, any class with illusion or enchantment spells works great for sharingan shenanigans(a simple charm person for example) gaara would be trickier, both for the impenetrable defense and amount of sand needed
I have no idea about Gaara, but Sazuke and Kakashi should be doable.
I think multiclassing would be your best bet. They need a few levels of monk for the taijustu.
The copying ability of the sharingan seems a bit more difficult. Maybe use a bards ability to pick spells from each class and with magic initiate, you can get some nice spells that are similar to the ninjutsu and genjutsu. Chidori for example is just shocking grasp.
For Gaara, Circle of the Moon druid should work, since at higher levels you can turn into an earth elemental. For Kakashi or Sasuke, 14th level Arcane Trickster rogues get a spell thief ability that could be flavored as Sharingan, as well as access to Shocking Grasp and some low level illusion spells.
It takes a lot of deliberate self sabotage to cripple Megumin after casting. To bad there isn't a way to give 5 levels of exhaustion in exchange for a power boost (without homebrew).

was looking at Megumin, (considering whole party is like lvl 5 or so) having her cast Meteor Swarm could be possible at her low lvl's, without having to use other spells to give her a penalty. This would be having part of her spell cost reduce her con down to 0 for a given time (like 12hrs followed by a long rest), this wouldn't knock her fully out but would make her unable to move. As she refuses to cast (let alone learn) any other spell, she can have meteor swarm as a spell like ability rather then a spell that's castable 1 time per day, and have no spell slots. Yet she can still learn meta-magic feats that will boost meteor swarm, and be able to cast it 1-2 extra times per-day given certain requirements are meet (such as when Kazuma used drain touch to give her more magic power letting her cast explosion 2 times in one day).

Well actually in seriousness crimson demons can use normal single word spells it’s just that they’re chunibyous so it’s personal preference how long it takes to cast said spell. It’s why megumines chant is different every time time she uses it.

Just so you know Darkness armor was upgraded after she was hit by the lettuce by the blacksmith.
Shes harder than the armor anyway.
I use contingency all the time on my character to have them just throw npcs off with every last fight like Having (can't remember spells name but makes you fake being dead and take half damage from nonmagic sources) whenever my character is sneak attacked. Which resulted in an assassin thinking he killed him and to walk away only for my character to get up 3 hours later and scare the assassin as I walked in on him getting paid as he left his knife in me and I wanted to return it to him.
Assassin: "I stabbed you through your spine while you were asleep how are you alive?"
Me: "oh you need to hurt me if you want to wake me up from my bed."
Assassin: "wait what?"
Me a shadow magic sorcerer with the trait I barely bleed even from severe injuries and dm ruling due to that and being immobile for 3 hours the would was a scab by then and the crits damage got halfed as the contingency made it take effect the moment the blade entered my characters body. The assassin then in an attempt to fulfill the contract rushed at my character stabbing him with a poison covered dagger. Failed con save causing another contingency as I became paralysed by the poison and a resilience sphere appeared around my character and lasted long enough for me to get back up. The fight kept up with the assassin triggering effects after kicking my feet out from under me, grappling me, and when he disarmed me. The assassin gave up and told his boss he quit, looked to my character and asked how much he'd pay him to kill his old boss. My character intimidated him telling him how if he didn't work for him for free he would use a combination of spells to murder him in a way that would be impossible to track

Pardon if I'm rude but what exactly are you on? Dwarves primarily use Axes and are basically specialists in heavy weaponry. Mountain Dwarves get free weapon proficiency in basically everything even.
Yeah, rather than look up what dwarves get specifically, I only researched the penalty for being a tiny character and figured Dwarves suffered from them. The pinned message fixes things, and Darkness could either wear Heavy armor, or start off as a Halfling!

i love when people ask why you like a character then put there age, not realizing you where there age when you first saw the show or when the show came out.
Blaine The only problem with darkness right now is a Dwarf is a medium sized creature (like a human or elf) that stands between 4-5 feet tall, to be small and get the disadvantage trait when using heavy weapons you would need to be a creature like a halfling, gnome, gobbo etc.

For megumin, also look into the tiefling feat flames of phlegethos. Rerolling any 1 on a fire damage spell can make sure you don't just make a small "poof" on bad luck. Have not done the math tho yet vs fury of the small.

Wiz is absolutely best girl, she would never do something soley to flex on Megumin. It was just the only way to ensure she helped as much as possible.
Although I will generally say about the whole konosuba thing.. I think I've said all this before but I'll go for it again.
I think it's a bit more interesting to take the spirit into account more than the numbers.
Darkness: Crank her Con as high as possible, use Great Weapon Master for that -5 +10 trade.. And remember that barbarians can use Reckless attack to get advantage in exchange for enemies taking advantage against you. Yeah you're hitting way more than darkness ever did, but with the "Masochistic Defender" thing she has going on, I wouldn't be surprised if she was more than willing to take that penalty because she already likes getting hit, and she can basically use getting hit more as a tactical advantage. Also a Paladin Barbarian mix could work well too, using the barbarian dip for Reckless Attack and combining your essentially doubled crit chance to make deadly smites, and using lay on hands to keep her in the fight longer.
Megumin: Evocation Wizard works perfectly for Megumin because of a little thing known as Overchannel. at 14th level you can take any spell of 5th level or lower (Which includes casting Fireball at fifth level) and completely maximize its damage (using that level 5 explosion, 10d6 turns to 60 damage). Use it once and you're fine, use it twice and take 2d12 necrotic per level of the spell (or 10d12 if you were to cast 2 level 5 fireballs, which I'd say that 120 (60 if they pass both saves, 90 if they pass 1 save but not the other) is definitely fitting for megumin) damage to everything in a 20 foot radius over 2 turns) That much necrotic damage might just kill you outright if you aren't careful, but that certainly seems fitting enough for a fireball that literally takes its caster out of the right but deals massive damage.
Aqua: Honestly I can't really change anything about that just because it kinda just works. Although I'd also note that a Divine Soul Sorcerer could be more fitting to someone who is ACTUALLY A god rather than worshipping one. and it'd make her charisma focus make more sense mechanically.
Kazuma: Again can't really say I have anything specific to change about it, since I really like the "oh by the way I can just get 5 free rerolls that I can use just whenever"

A beam of crackling, blue energy lances out toward a position within range, forming a sustained arc of lightning between you and the target position. The caster starts chanting the spell, during the chanting, a large magic circle appears under the caster and in the direction she is casting the spell, if the chant is stopped, the spell is cancelled and can be used again. The spell deals 1d12+Int Fire Damage on a 9-Feet radius for each full round she did concentrate on chanting the spell, including the first round. Anyone caught in the explotion can make a Dexterity Saving throw to avoid half the damage. The blast is so powerfull that anyone outside the explotion on a 9-Feet radius (from the border of the explotion) must do a Fortitude Saving throw and are pushed away 3 feets from the blast on a failure.
After casting this spell, the caster is paralized untill she takes a short or a long rest
Can you imagine how annoyed the DM would be with every time Darkness being hit she gets aroused. That would quickly get annoying in old. And I wonder if Aqua is truly useless in D&D? And how good could megumin be if she's only good for a one-time explosion? Although be fun playing as the Rogue Thief, constantly stealing things like panties from NPCs and other players.
