Hi Tara, I am sorry to see the Outrider series end. However, it has ended on a topic that will affect all budding PhD students around the world now and into the future. cheers, doug

The bit on visuality and representational systems reminded me of when I was teaching GCSE English and had to teach a class of mostly dyslexic students poetic structure. For those lessons I gave them the poems entirely covered with coloured boxes - not only could they tell me exactly which poem was which from the anthology without being able to see a single word of them just by the shapes of the lines and the stanzas, but did better on their homework assignment than my top set class who had the same lesson because they were better able to learn through a modality that wasn't hindered by their dyslexia. When it came to assessment, they literally drew the boxes on their copies of the poems and even accounting for their struggles with writing, their essays dealt better with structure than any of my other students which is worth a lot of marks under the mark scheme. I try to include visuality in all my literature teaching now
