  • The MMM boys had themselves a day with a 2016 John Deere 1550 and their 1996 F911. George bought this newer front mount mower for relative so we got to work. While we had it on our site, we were able to test this $15K+ beast out in the yard and compare it to the same exact style of mower from 20 years earlier that we owned. Enjoy!

John Deere has a kit you can add to the 1400 and 1500 mowers to get 1 or 2 extra front Aux hydraulics. I believe the single is $650 and the double is $850. we went with the double kit. we use them for snow and wanted one for spout control and one for swivel control on the blower. check out our videos at Farming Our Way, have one coming out this week with the install kit of the double aux hyd.

I have personally put well over 1500 hours on a 912 (gas, 3 cylinder Yanmar gas) and they were indeed workhorses.
The 912 had a moulded in "cup holder" in the toolbox lid.

@@toddsonic Yeah, deep enough to let your cup fall over after the first turn. Got my F935 for free, once, after fixing all the JD junk, and replacing with parts Made in China. One of the best mowers ever! Mine also had differential lock lever mounted on the front of transaxle, simple linkage needed to make functional.

@tcmits3699 Our F912 had the factory linkage with a bright round floor button right behind the steering column for the differential lock.
We added a mount for a fire extinguisher to the outer side of the column and reversed the drive tires to get a wider stance as we had a lot of off camber side hills to mower, added tail-brake lights to factory location as it was used on the road at times getting to and from sites and yes a more useful bottle holder on the back side of the column.

Can the F911 pull anything? How much weight in a cart?

It has very strong hydraulics. It moves a lot of snow in the winter. It can pull most trailers around a yard. Couple thousand pounds?

@BoatRestorationbyBen I concourse, we used to use our 912 to pull a four wheeled bale trailer with moderate sized water tank on it at low speeds which didn't cause any hydrostatic drive issues.
