    Just wanted to say, I neven used one before and bought this one because i lost my wedding ring while mowing the lawn. I new it had to be in one part of my garden which is about 200m^2 and on the last stretch i found it :) I had the sensitivity low on only 3 out of 5 and always looked on the depth. Found alot of junk buried but i am glad i found my ring :) With that it allready paid for itself :D :)

      I have a Dr. Otek and have used it to find coins , buttons around home. We took it to the beach with some dissatisfaction. At the surfs edge
      we hit a couple of targets in the 78-82 range. The issue I had when I turned on the pinpoint feature it stayed at maximum regardless of where I moved the coil in about a 3 foot area. This is my question, was this caused by high iron content of the beach sand?

      That is odd. I would first check the connections and make sure the coil is plugged in good. Then make sure the sensitivity isn’t set too high. Also, maybe try notching out the lower part of the scale to help eliminate some junk targets. If none of that helps, I would contact Dr Otek and see what they can do. Could be a faulty coil or cable. Either way, I’m sure they’ll get you fixed up.

A lot of them say they are waterproof, yeah sure they are up to the gimmick light but water will get in in four places on these units so don't drop them in a puddle or try using them in water. I paid £14 so no real loss if it doesn't last long. Going by the quality of Dr Otek's metal detector I won't take a chance for £50 on their pinpointers.

      @@Appophust in that price range, I'd take a look at the Minelab Xterra Pro. For beach hunting, simultaneous multi frequency detectors work best (and also cost more), but people have been reporting good results with the Xterra Pro on the beach. It'll be good for inland coins and relics too. The Xterra Pro offers a lot of bang for the buck.

    Help! i keep detecting metal cans/beer cans and it says its a coin/metal

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Roman, yes those pesky beer and soda cans will read in the same range as coins. There is a little trick you can do to tell them apart. Lift your coil about 6" off the ground. If its a coin, the signal should fade away. If you're still getting a strong signal with the coil lifted off the ground, likely a soda can or other large target.

    What is the maximum depth it can detect

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว

      About 7 or 8 inches on coins in air tests. So that’s obviously best case scenario. How deep it can go on targets in the ground just depends on the ground you’re detecting. Mineralization = less depth.

    Do you still recommend this for a first timer or is there a better detector you recommend

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Yes I recommend it for those who want to try the hobby without making a big investment. Lots of people go out and spend $250+ dollars to get a more expensive detector, just to end up realizing the hobby isn't for them. The detector ends up in a closet and that's a chunk of money wasted. You can get this whole set up including the shovel for less than $100. Try out Metal Detecting to see if its for you, then if you like it, step up to a higher priced detector. The way I see it, there's about 4 tiers of detectors. Entry level (this one), low priced (Nokta Simplex, Minelab Xterra, etc), Mid priced (Nokta Legend, Minelab Equinox 700, etc), and high end (Minelab Manticore, XP Deus 2, etc). You could skip the entry level tier and go right to the low or mid priced tier, but if you decide that the hobby isn't for you, you'd be out a lot more money. This is a good inexpensive way to see if it's for you.

    Strange warranty, they don't ask for for a serial number because the machines are cheap and don't have one, well not cheap at all, Amazon current price around £185. I got drawn in by all the hype from respected detectorists, maybe I should have asked Dr Otek for one of their free one's, they all seem to work perfect unlike the paid for one's sent back to Amazon lol. It works, kind of, but at the current price they are simply not worth taking a chance on whether you got a good one or a bad one, as I doubt whether there is any quality control or testing. Never did get the free pouch Dr Otek said they would send if I joined their facebook group.

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Could be the luck of the draw I guess. My grandkids are still using the one they sent us years ago. Of course, they don't hunt nearly as often as I do, so the detector doesn't see as much use as my higher end machines do. Anyway, I'm not sure what the current pricing is, but back when I uploaded this video, this unit was less than $100 US after discounts, which I think is a fair price for an entry level detector with the nice hand digger they include. For someone who already knows they're definitely going to stick with the hobby, I'd probably go with a Simplex or XTerra in the $250 range. But for someone who is on a tight budget and just wants to see if the hobby is for them, I think this is one of the better ~$100 entry level machines.

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just checked pricing. Here in the states, its $149 with an instant $45 discount, so its $104 shipped for the detector, the hand digger, the headphones and a carry bag.

    I bought one of these and was disappointed with the false positives and inability to "find" actual targets. I put my wife's jewellery on the floor and it had a hard time detecting them. I put a coin in the sand at a beach and it couldn't find it. I don't recommend this detector for any serious detecting.

    • @MetalDetectingNWGA
      @MetalDetectingNWGA  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Sounds like your unit may have some issues. Have you tried contacting Sarah at Dr. Otek to see if she can help? To me, this unit is good for a beginner who is on a very tight budget or someone who just wants to try the hobby without a big investment. For more serious detecting, I would recommend starting with something in the $225-$300 range like the Nokta Simplex or the Minelab Xterra.
