Treasure hunting with an Amazon metal detector! Dr Otek MT-XR Test, review, and giveaway!

  • In this video I explore the question: Can you find treasure with a $119 Amazon metal detector? I took this Dr Otek MT-XR out to a variety of parks from one founded in 1891 to some modern parks dating back to the 1950s. I filmed live digs on real targets in the park along with running this machine through my test coin garden. I found some surprising results while testing this machine! My Minelab equinox 800 makes a guest appearance as well! Make sure you watch the whole video for details on how to enter to win the giveaway as well!
    UPDATE: GIveaway winner has been picked. Video announcement with details will be posted soon so keep an eye out! Thanks to everyone who watched and commented!

    brill review! and really glad i bought 2 👍😊
    Due to never ever owning a metal detector and would love days out with my 6 yr old grandson having fun, in a change of direction from usual things like play parks etc..I have just bought 2 of these in kit form (carry bag, shovel and rain cover) cant wait to take him out and have fun..he will love going out with his grandpa and love finding even a nail or a rusted coke can..just a beep will make the lil guys day 😁

      Same here. I still use my XLT even though it does not go quite as deep as my Xterra-Pro (Maybe 1/2" less).
      It is extremely stable on target ID and target tone, therefore, I don't dig as much trash as I do with the Minelab.

    Glad I found your channel. I use the Dr. Otek and just got started metal detecting. I didn't have enough money to buy a Garrett. I have to admit I have found lots of cool things with my Otek and I love it. I recently bought a SunPow machine because it was $159.99 and I found a promo code and got it for $44.99 and it sucks. The Dr. Otek beats it hands down. I just subbed to your channel.

      @FuturesPast1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jimmydjpumpinpavino Are you talking about the SunPow or the SunJoe? I got the SunPow. It is comparable to the SunJoe. The SunPow works. However, compared to other ones I've tried and reviewed on my channel (about 15 of them), It glitches out alot, gives false signals and doesn't detect very deep. If you are looking for surface finds like coins and such that are like 2-4 inches under the ground it will do just fine. If you are looking for Civil War relics and equally cool things this, it might not be right for you.

    • @jimmydjpumpinpavino
      @jimmydjpumpinpavino ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool thanks for the info.. is it suitable for stream and river use" a couple of inches to a foot let's say ,is it waterproof to an extent?

    • @FuturesPast1
      @FuturesPast1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jimmydjpumpinpavino It says "water resistant", but in my experience, it is not safe using it in water more than 2-3". It's only good for very shallow water. Only the very bottom of the coil can get wet otherwise it will short out. Definitely not going to last long with creek, stream and river use. If you want to do detecting in water your best best is to get a fully immersible detector like a Garret AT Pro which can go up to 10 feet deep underwater.

    My detector goes haywire in particular environments like at the beach and in some parts of the grassy park I like to frequent.
    I have tried reducing the sensitivity but the issue persists. What do you recommend to fix this.

    • @detectorben8007
      @detectorben8007  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have been in a few sites where I had the same issue. There is not much you can do besides turning down sensitivity. This detector is not ideal for wet sand but should work fine in dry sand and most dry land hunting.

    Another question for you. I have just got one of these, with a pinpointer too. Is there any kind of set up I need to do before I go out? What I'm finding is that I get readings alot of the time? (I think its possible).. I set the discovery on to the higher items... maybe i should give it a quick damp cloth clean? and sensitivity a little lower? I only got it for the kids to enjoy it and who knows find a roman coin or something. Cheers, any advice greatly received.
    PS: Kids enjoyed watching this...(again)

    • @detectorben8007
      @detectorben8007  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you may need to turn down sensitivity if you are getting false signals. There could be EMI or high mineralization in the ground. Cleaning the coil is a good idea as well. Thanks for watching again! Good luck!

    For anyone considering these Chinese knockoffs, remember this….you can buy a Garrett or Bounty Hunter entry level machine for a good price. These are made here, in the US by US workers. The Chinese steal the technology by reverse engineering our products. It’s all about the money to them. We have lost two companies, Whites, and Tesoro due to these machines being dumped on our consumers. Whites was in business for over 50 years. I’d rather have my Bounty Hunter Tracker IV than any of these machines. $100 +/- price tag. Made in USA, by an American worker.

      It’s not made in the USA. it’s just put together In the USA. Every single part on those are straight from over seas.

    i had one of these DrOtek detectors... turd does not begin to encompass the quality of it... laid a couple quarters and a gold chain in the front yard and it wouldn't detect them with the coil literally touching them... fortunately amazon returns work really well...

    bro do you have to wave it that freakin much. like after it signals why wave it another five ten or in your case thirty times. The variance isnt enough to choose to listen to that god awful sound. Seriously do a video without waving, you can accomplish the same thing by just sweeping the one time. You aint a grandfather clock you dont have to swing it back and forth every second theres metal trash under you. I'm sorry for being rude but you gave me a migraine just trying to pay attention to how the amazon cheap choice works

    It did slightly just barley read it-detected it at 25:00 but it did make a sound. Now ofcourse the way more expensive one picked it up better but he'll that would be so fucked up it didn't do a little better job. Seen
    As how much more expensive that one is. For the price of the cheap one it does work amazing.

    Is this model waterproof? Can it be used in shallow water at a beach?
