You are supposed to go downstairs to exit the train station. Only when you need to transit you have to go upstairs to the waiting room. That's the reason why you found it was so hard to go upstairs and there was no escalator.

It's spotlessly clean, spacious with massive legroom, and offers impeccable service, not to mention the efficiency of traveling. Have a good time in Suzhou while you're at it.

Suzhou has 17 million people (including outskirts). Not a small town. Suzhou is a historical city with 2000 years history. It was the capital of the old kingdom Wu. When Suzhou was a thriving, civilized kingdom capital Shanghai was non-existence. Shanghai developed from a fishing village in the past 100 years since colonial British conquered China and decided to set foot in Shanghai.

it's acutally one of the largest industrial bases in China from sock manufacturing to computer manufacturing
We have good tech and money to develop our public transportation system. Since we are under one administration, the progress is a lot smoother than most of western countries. But in terms of people, we are almost the same barely advanced. Yes tech can help us here and there, but it’s just to a certain point. As you can see we still use old ways like whistles and loud mega phones to manage people. Something just never change.

Hey Dany it is interesting that you made it to the Shanghai Station, which used to be the main station but not any more since 2010, I recommend checking out HongQiao station, it is 17KM from the city center but it is way more massive and interesting, and it is connected with the HongQiao airport in the same monolith complex.
Welcome to Suzhou! I've been living in Suzhou for a couple of years and I really enjoy it. It has the perfect balance for me, where you can have a perfectly peaceful and balanced life, while still possible to have big parties if you want to.

At the end of the video, you went the wrong way. All the escalators going up from the platform lead to the waiting area. After you arrive at the station, you should take the escalator going down from the platform to exit the train station.

The model of the train you are taking is 和谐号which is older model. The newer model is 复兴号.
Suzhou is a lot older than Shanghai. As for Shanghai (my hometown), the best area is former French concession, near JingAn.

You’re not quite right. German rail is privatised hence the standard is low. China trains are state-run.
You pressed the light button in your seat and there was no response. Perhaps you didn't notice a small table lamp near the headrest that can adjust the angle. Additionally, if there is no small table panel on the back of the front seat, there may be a foldable table panel hidden in the armrest. Hopefully, this can answer your questions and help you.

Shanghai Station is very old station, the metro system is not direct connect to station inside. The Hongqiao Station is much better, metro system directly connects to railway station and airport.
