I've had this tent for over three years now and have never had any problems with it. I've been through thunderstorms, rain showers, 3" of snow, and never had any problems with it. Always been dry inside. The ventilation problems people have complained about are non existent if you set the tent up properly. Just as the reviewer mentioned, you have to have long guy ropes at the tops to fully extend the tent with no bowing in the middle. As the reviewer mentions, this allows the mesh at the top of the tent to be open and not covered by the flaps. I paid 30.00 for this tent on sale, non issued, so brand new. It was a steal. I'm getting ready to head out to the wilds for my 2-3 weeks of annual deer hunting, and will be staying in this tent for the duration.
Its a great tent. The only time mine has leaked was back in the summer when we had heavy rain all night. No bad leaks, but I did get a small amount of water come in on one end. The wind was blowing the rain against the doors and it looked like the small fabric loops that you use to tie back the doors were working like a dripline. No complaints though, It was a very wet night and I stayed dry. 👍
I remember those tents from cub scout's. As long as you did not touch the fabric when it rained they would not leak. Unlike all these modern tents they don't collapse down on top of you in a windstorm. My daughter once insisted on pitching our tent under a gumtree that was shedding . I tried to warn her but she knew better. The crap from the tree made the tent leak badly when it rained. Leaves, seeds, gum resin. They all screw up the waterproofing. Personally I can't help thinking a lot of modern tents are over complicated and overrated. I have learned to hate those glassfibre poles with the elastic in them. Not nearly as stiff and strong as the old vertical aluminium tube poles. You don't need an instruction manual to raise those old school tents either. Proper job.
I bought 3 of these French Surplus Army tents 7 plus years ago', all was used but in very good shape. They are very good for summer and fall. I bought mine from Sportsman Guide under 30 dollars each. I still have all 3 and still use them, they do the job. They in no way a cold weather tent
Yeah I personally think there's too many people out there who don't know how to put up A-tent they think what you pull up the guy lines and stake it down it's supposed to be set they don't know how to adjust and make everything pull everything taught they just want to wine and complained that there's something wrong with the tent when they don't realize that they're not smart enough to put a tent up
A lightweight version of the original force 10 we used in the Air cadets (ATC), did ten tours and DofE in one, just don't touch the sides. If i remember most ridge tents have a ridge pole to stop them sagging, but if you lost the rubber cap water would piss through the hole in the outer skin. 🤣 Looks a good tent fot the money, i look forward to your first rainy camp out with it. 🤣 🤣
Looks a decent bit of kit. I quite like the ex military type tents. They've got a lot of character and often more room! Look forward to the rain test 🌧️
They originally came with a fly sheet that went over it like a second skin. They got some in at Military Mart that still had the extra tarp bit, sadly on mine, even though it was unused, the rubberised waterproof coating was peeling off the floor because of its age (it was a canvas one). I sent it back, though I wish I’d kept it for the fly sheet as I’ve never seen any anywhere else that come with that part.
There's some common black rubber type spray the guys were talking about. It is used to repair peeling on underside of top lid of Alice Pack. This is sometimes used to store soft items /charts/maps. Everyone swears by it. Might work for tent/tarp repair. Will test out rubberized spray for ground cloth and post here results.
They were in production for a long time and the design changed over the years. The F1 with the extra fly sheet is the holy grail, but they are hard to find.
Always wanted one, but watched so many videos of them leaking like mad. Hope you fair better with it in the wet. Look forward to seeing how you get on.
I can attest to this. I put my DPM basha over the top of this french tent, propped up with hiking poles. Never had any issues with the tent in Scottish weather. Superb bit of kit
I am currently looking for a new tent. I quite like the look of these. I am 5'11 and I always find normal dome tents quite cramped and stuffy. It looks well vented. I'd be interested to see how they perform in terms of condensation on one of the 30c plus nights we get here in the middle of summer.
Was tempted on this one, especially when they were $39 US...however concerned about leaks as noted in several reviews. Possibly cured by seam sealer or set up technic? Will be interested to see your experience with it. Great video as usual 👌
Good afternoon. I just purchased one of these tents, partially due to both Marc's and your videos with them. What type of poncho liner do you have? Since, in another video, you said it was a perfect fit as a carpet. Thanks for sharing.
Good morning and thanks for watching. I have the Mil-Tec one. I will add a link for the spec etc. Shop around, prices differ a lot. ukmcpro.co.uk/products/mil-tec-us-army-style-poncho-liner?variant=6603759517739¤cy=GBP&.co.uk/products/mil-tec-us-army-style-poncho-liner?variant=6603759517739¤cy=GBP&?currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAjwhJukBhBPEiwAniIcNe0zOXR-idJJe6M9lUrqJETj1nC2Mubj62Q9Fi9BthrHvyQOnrKekhoCEBYQAvD_BwE
I love these tents, simple as they come. Condensation can be an issue like all single skin tents but I love mine
Looking forward to using it.
I've got the exact same tent ,for the money it's not a bad tent as long as you have it set up properly ,great video big man
Thanks George. 👍

There a great little tent with plenty of space.
My son has an original F1 canvas inner and outer fly sheet and he loves it
Canvas would be great, bit heavier though.

Its out this weekend, I will know more after that. Looking good so far though.
Great looking tent Allan reminds me of my first tent I got for my 13th birthday. Looking forward to your up coming adventures with it 👍👍
Yes its bring back old memories for me.

I really like mine, in fact I am using it this weekend. I have used mine in the winter, but its very mild here on the south coast of the UK.
I slept in this for 3 nights in west cork Ireland it was perfect even in the rain, I also managed to get a British army issued camp bed inside it.
Great space inside, proper 2 man tent.
Grew up with this style so still have a soft spot for them.
Me too. 👍
I have one of those myself. Works great for boyscout outings. Just have to make sure to waterproof it.
Heavy rain and I will cover it with a tarp. 👍👍
It seems like 👍 it should work well like you said make sure it’s pulled up tight and open vents for condensation should help
We will find out this weekend. 😁

It does annoy me when I see videos of poorly put up tents, and then they bitch about the product. 🙄
A very thorough and useful review Allen 👍
Thanks Giles.

If its too wet, I will be putting a tarp over it. Thinking mainly for summer use. 😁
Another great review 👏
I appreciate that, thanks.

I am out this weekend with it, but I think the forecast is dry.
@@frogmaster83 Ah enjoy. Looks really roomy inside. I think I'll be out this weekend in my lavvu.
Great tent for the money and as you say like the ones we used in the 70s
1st test this weekend.
It's certain a lovely looking traditional tent
I really like it, but it does leak a little in heavy rain.

Yes I believe that my mate Marc has one with the fly sheet.

These vary. Some are canvas f1. Some f2's have one or two doors with bug screens. Not sure how to know. I bought two and they were very different.

Those pegs 😂 like rebar for concrete 😮 Looks fairly decent though, good amount of room and at least wild camping colours 👍
Your right Lee. Size, colour etc looks spot on. Have swapped the pegs for lightweight ones and saved 1kg. 😂

I love ❤️ getting a new tent to test
Me too, always a good day.
Always wanted one, but watched so many videos of them leaking like mad. Hope you fair better with it in the wet. Look forward to seeing how you get on.
You and me both! 😂
A basha fits great over the top
That's an option if its wet. I am guessing the size is about right too.
@@frogmaster83 yes it fits great

Amazing view. I agree the purpose of tie out to force center sag. Looks. Ridiculous
Thats a lot of tent for £35 nice to have a decent sized stuff sack for a change too
Quite impressed with it.
3 minutes in; that´s exactly what we were using. 😂😂😂
Kind regards
Alain
Still has a cool look after all this time.
@@frogmaster83Ain´t that the truth.
I am awaiting your first raintrip to see wether I will get one 😉.

To my mind, with that amount of vents it cant be too bad. I will find out over the coming weeks.

From what you have seen Allan, does it have the edge over the Dutch army tent? (subject to field testing)
This is lighter and a little more room, but the Dutch feel like it will cope with a nuclear strike. 😁😁
Put a tarp over it
Ohio USA JUST ORDERED ONE.
Have fun mate but it will leak a bit in heavy rain I have now found. Still love it though.
Keep mine in a jungle bag compression bag
Good idea.
😅
