👍 .. a nice blast from the past.
Back in 1968, during my National Service in the South African Defence Force, that F1 Tent looks very much like those that we occasionally used when out on 'Manoeuvres' and extended off Base Training Exercises. We slept two to a tent with kit (somewhat cramped) but regarded them as the height of luxury in that it beat, especially in Winter, dossing under a Poncho or worse, open skies.
Thanks for sharing .. take care ..

Hi Thomas, nice to hear from you again! They're not a bad tent at all, are they? Although, as you mention, I can imagine a little claustrophobic with 2 men and gear...
      Cheers, S

@@canvascamping 👍 As an aside, back in '72, I bought a canvas 'pup tent' similar to the F1. Integral ground sheet, galvanised poles, including a two-piece ridge pole. Not a 'hiking' tent .. too bulky and heavy but served me very well for general 'camping'. My kids took it over with my then-teenage daughter spending many nights out in the garden, accompanied of course, by the two dogs, a pit bull and jack russell and the occasional cat or two. Now, 50 years later, still have it and perfectly serviceable .. as and when required, treatment with 'NuSeal Canvas Reproofing' having seen to that.
I have a soft spot for natural fibres. Looked after, they can almost last forever.

I had a similar tent when I was a nipper, unfortunately my parents didn't keep it (I believe it was passed on to a younger family member).
I love canvas tents, so much more character to them. My oldest canvas tent is a 2 man bivvy tent from WW2, so about 80 years old.

The original French army F1 tent had a cotton inner with a cotton flysheet, very heavy, very rare these days. A later F! had a cotton inner and a poly flysheet. The F2 was nylon construction throughout with no flysheet. The F3 was sand coloured nylon with only one entrance door and no flysheet.

Hi Norman, thanks for checking out my video, and thanks for the information. I didn't realise that the sand coloured one was so different as to be a completely new model.

Everyone loves a giveaway, but 500 subs is a ways off yet...but I'll definitely do it when I get there 😁

Hi. Have you still got the F1 tents? Can you remember where you bought them from please. I'm looking but can only find the nylon ones. Did Fabseal make it waterproof? What do you think about the Dutch army tents.

Hi Joseph, sorry for the late reply...
I got mine from Military Mart, but they only have the sand coloured nylon ones in stock now. I've looked on a few sites that I've bought from in the past, and they're all the same.
As for the fabsil - yes, it worked on the upper to a fair degree. However, I didn't do the flooring and just use a tarp underneath.
Thanks for you question, sorry I couldn't help you, and thanks for watching the video...
      Cheers, S

I love these tents, but I've never had to use them in the forces, just for fun!

I think they're worth it, for that authentic look and feel. Personally, I prefer the F1 over the F2, as I prefer canvas/cotton tents.
Thanks for watching, and for commenting.

Try four and a half foot wide, almost 7 feet long, and 39 inches high.

      @@canvascamping absolutely!
Round about four years ago "over here" there was a german surplus store ( Raer ) whitch sold the canvas version with the nylon fly so you can either set up the fly, the tent or both of them. It was I think 30,00€ back then.
      What a shame that i didn’t bought it :(

    • @canvascamping

It seems to be getting more and more difficult to source the one's with the fly sheet, everyone must be wanting them.
      Cheers, S

      @canvascamping  ปีที่แล้ว +1

If you are still wanting one, I'd suggest militarymart.co.uk or varusteleka, although they won't be €30 any more, no doubt due to their scarcity.
      Cheers, S
