  • I do have the F1 canvas French army tent, but this is the polyester F2.
    in this video I put it to the test in some wind and rain. Also I tried out my OEX sleeping bag, giving my honest opinion on it after sleeping in wet and cold conditions down to 1°c at night.

    Really like mine used 2 nights ago for a test camp. loads of room and easy set up and weighs only 2.5kg. Really do like this tent make your own poles and pegs when out and its even lighter.

      Can you use trekking poles to put it up?

    • @seankelly1749
      @seankelly1749 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@craigelliott4338 You can but test it before you go. You might need to modify things a little but if you have resizeable poles it shouldn't be a problem. If you get the original poles with this tent they're freaking heavy. I think the 2.5kg stated in the original comment is without the poles. With the poles and original stakes this thing is pushing 5kg lol but if you bring lightweight stakes and your own walking poles you can get it down to 2.5kg.
      If you do use this tent there's probably nothing you can do to stop the condensation. I have this tent for short hikes, or if we're in a group, but for my solo thr-hikes the condensation and possibility of leaks with this tent is too much. I keep it for peak Summer, short trips and groups.

    A nice review .. thanks.
    As long as one realises that it's a synthetic single-wall A-frame old-style budget tent and accepts it's limitations and design intent, then it's a good buy.
    I have a similar canvas model bought back in the early 70's which has given me, my kids and their friends and hopefully one day, grandchildren, great service.
    For the price, and with a slight upgrade (a 3×3 waterproof lightweight tarp) .. an affordable functional purchase.
    One doesn't have to bankrupt oneself in order to enjoy the outdoors. Ignore the 'gear snobs' and marketing blurb. Use / modify what you've got at home. Buy then what you absolutely need and can afford and get out there.
    'Garden Camping' is a great way to start .. testing gear and learning new skills. Thereafter, time and experience will dictate where one goes from there.

      Very true. I also got the canvas one, love it! In the colder wetter months I might put the 3x3 tarp over it but it works pretty well as it is. Cheers mate. Thanks for watching

    I have a single skin, good tent but the condensation is an issue. An old friend gave me a canvas one with a fly sheet. Use it when I'm green laning and wild camping. Brilliant tents.

    Have you tried pegging out the 2 poles for the ridge line first, then peg down the 4 corners of the floor nice and square, then start at one end and peg down the 2 corners of the flaps, then do the 2 middle ones, (making sure the tend does NOT have those creases in) then go to the other end and pull the flaps out and away from the tent and peg down, that should work.

    Ok, we understand a little of condensation, but basically this tent sucks! 3 days of usage, little rain and it's wet! Inside! Most crappy tent ever, and we are well trained and equiped! Around 30 bucks, and still not worth the money...
