    Great tents. I bought two when the price was cheap. Make sure you get the cotton version. I've never used mine with a tarp. Just seasoned them in the Irish rain and they haven't let a drop in at all. Bang for buck it doesn't get much better. For surplus kit it's A1.

    Good presentation!
    Having served in both the US and Estonian Armies, for many years, many considered the, French F1 Tent to be the most efficient overall best Individual Soldier Ground Troops tent until the advent of the new generations of supported frame tents.

    Thinking of your final comment you can buy a bug net for £2.99 on eBay attach a bit of Velcro to the floor door areas and attach netting loosely to the top of your tent pole and let the drop attach to the Velcro attached to the tent base, a simple solution.when it's to hot and you want to keep the tent doors open but bugs out. Should help with condensation too👍

      Do you find it necessary or just as a precaution? I had a camp in mine last week for the first time, it was raining during the setup, it rained for over an hour after setup and was on and off all night till about 2am, the tent was basically 97% good.
      cheers from UK

      @@BushmanAOD For me, it´s necessary. If you´ve ever been in a hard rain with a thunderstorm, you be very glad to have a complete waterproof sheet over your head. The british army shelter sheet or Basha, it made of siliconised Nylon fabric. Greetings from Germany.

      @@marcmitchell4464 Nice one man, I got the bivvy as well - I haven't had a camp in the F1 for almost two months now and itching to get out in it again, I had to whip out my groundsheet a month ago for the dutch army tent, the angle of the canvas is just a bit too low so rain penetrates easier, im not too keen on spraying chemical sealants on my tents

    It is an F1 tent, however it is missing the flysheet, the original F1s had a cotton flysheet (heavy), later changed to a nylon one. To peg out, front left hand corner then tight to the rear right hand corner , then reverse the operation, front right hand corner tight to the rear left hand corner. Then peg the middle of the tent wide and tight, then peg the doorways. Your guy lines don't need to be that long. Used one of these for nearly thirty years and it's bombproof in numerous storms I've been in with it correctly pitched.

      Just went camping and it took on quite alot of water. It looks like it came through the zippers themselves- they're soaked wet and it rolled down. I seamsealed externally and none of the corners or floor really took on tons of water.. but the door itself let in alot it seems. I havent had this trouble before in my backyard in a good rain. Maybe i set it up wrong? it was a rush because the water was coming down.

    Thanks for sharing bud, how has this tent fared for you in the rain? Someone mentioned that the seams might need waterproofing but he has the F2 whilst I have this F1 version, it looks better than nylon to me and so far all three of my surplus canvas tents have done superb in the rain despite myself not weathering them in OR treating them...
    Cheers from London

      @survivaldads  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hey pal. I've had no problems in the rain, seams all seem perfect. Like all canvas, once it's weathered (as you know) they preform great. I only throw a tarp over if the kids are with me as they don't seem to grasp the concept of not touching the sides when wet haha!

    • @Sakitsunebi
      @Sakitsunebi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@survivaldads what do you mean when the tent is "weathered"?

    • @BushmanAOD
      @BushmanAOD 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Sakitsunebi Aparrently it is better to take a newly bought surplus canvas tent out and pitch it when you feel there is going to be a good rain session, then let it sit drenching for a few hours. after which, you will bring it indoors so it can dry naturally somewhere, this causes the canvas fibers to lock up together and become watertight again.
      I've never done this, I just went out camping in all of my tents and all four have had heavy rain sessions whilst I was sleeping in them, I didnt have any ingress of water that was causing problems.
      have a great weekend

      Which of the tents has done best so far?

    • @BushmanAOD
      @BushmanAOD 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@whoarewe7515 If you are asking me then, firstly the Polish Palatka (Lavvu), then the French F1 then the Dutch one, it is mainly down to angle of roof / sides etc. the Dutch tent has a lower gradient and so the water doesn't bead down as quickly - in the end I used fabsil to seal mine instead of weathering it in, plus its a 26 year old tent so a bit worn out I guess.

    "I hate bugs" lol
    I love bushcraft, I love camping, and I love the outdoors, but damn straight brother .... bugs are complete ass. I dont want to be a sissy but after having dealt with tarantulas, centipedes and a giant beetle that I honestly didnt think could live in the UK based on the fact that it was the size of a cigarette packet .... yeah .... I feel you mate. If I have a choice I will always go for an enclosed tent because I dont want the little creatures of the forest climbing into my pants whilst I sleep. Great video, thank you for your honesty and your excellent observations.

      The material soaks up rain causing the fibers to swell. As long as you DO NOT touch the material while it's raining you'll be ok.
