Such a lovely car and great video. In high school I lusted after a 3.2 Carrera or 993 Carrera S or Turbo. Nowadays I'm far more partial to the 996, but the 993 hasn't left my heart. These 3.2's have become more of a classic car for special occasions and rare gems that should be cherished.
Mine is 55 years old and I pretty much daily it. 3.2 Carerra under the decklid, 915 gearbox, brakes & suspension upgraded. Have never enjoyed driving a car as much. You'll get one in your future too and not look back 😀
Just sold my 911 3.2 Sport … actually think the slimmer version with whale tail spoiler arguably prettier …? Absolute joy to own, every trip an analogue pleasure, only ever as good as your last gear change! Loved it but yes, they are a commitment and with prices softening (discuss!) I’ve moved it on … I may of course regret it but very pleased I had the experience of owning one 🚗🏁🤗
@@alsatch_ I had to make my Porsche a daily driver so a 997 seemed more suitable. Plus, I was getting more and more anxious about my targa roof breaking and the difficulties to repair it (to find a specialist and $$$-wise). Been enjoying my 997 since and I love it so far... Even though I may miss the oil smell of my 993 sometimes.
Classic air cooled cars are “heart over head” cars. Personally I love them, and will always want one to compliment my water cooled cars. They make you feel very different. Much more of an experience ownership. Love your channel for several years BTW 👍
I own a 911 3.2L from 1988, and actually I can confidently say it is a turn-key car. It's true to say it requires a proper maintenance and services, but the engineering is actually so simple and so reliable. Turn on the circuit-breaker, check the oil, and it will bring you at any time for trips from 10 miles to 1000 miles without trouble. Fantastic car.
oh i love these you are right on. I own one and also 87 928s4 w 944 turbo from that year. i love these times especially porsche. timeless amazing they are anyways great video man.@@alsatch_
Great to see this. I’m definitely older than you, and find it quite telling that the air-cooled 911s appeal even to someone like yourself, with the means and taste to have the 997 and newer Porsches. As you say, you can use all of the G-body 911’s performance on real roads, and though I’ve had to put some money into my 1993 964 the aesthetics and driving experience are more than worth it. These are perhaps the only classic sports cars that are still great to drive. I also fully agree on the size - the proportions are perfect.
Sharp car! I've never seen red Fuchs wheels, and I actually lived in Germany during the 70's, so I saw many 911's and 914's. Personally, I actually like the red color, and I'm not one for flasy wheels, especially gold or bronze. I was impressed with just how quiet the car seemed inside while you were speaking.
I think with this type of car, it is à different experience. Having done huge(and I mean really huge miles in one). Buy right and they go on forever. However be prepared for less comforts on long drives. Also depends what the long term goal is, will it be a show car, Sunday toy or an out an out road trip car. Mine is for euro road trips. That will be a big factor cause they don’t like short drives or driving at low revs for short distances as this affects the engines after time, I assure you this. It takes ages for the oil to go round the car and warm up enough to lubricate, cool the engines since they are oil cooled. So short low rev trips is detrimental long term to the engines.
Great video I have had all generations of 911 starting with 74 9112.7s all the way to 992 . I loved the older cars especially 993 and 997 . I’m a purist really during my experience the only thing I can’t get out of my head regardless of how good the car looks is RUST ! It’s hiding somewhere unless you go full restoration.
Wel, I have a 3.2 myself. If I was you I would sell mr Yellow and go for this. You still have than mr white as a modern alternative ... Thanks for the video.
You’re gonna do what you’ve got to do. But imo you will have regrets not owning a classic sooner rather than later. You can always repurchase a good 997. Your days with a 3.2 Carerra will never be regretted. Again imo. Ps. I’ve owned all the cars you have and drive a 3.2 with a side of 987.1 base. Cheers
keep your 997 man and save up for other when it is time. all now electric cars and all these 997s will be classic of last of the last real ones. @@alsatch_
I was watching this car on #CollectingCars and I can see that it sold on 18/06/23 for £68,000 plus fees! Looks like the steering wheel has been swapped by the new owner.
That's the one Clive - i'll hold onto the original wheel and keep it with the car but the orignal wheel is one piece of 80s design i can live without 👍
G-bodies are great cars, but lacking of essential driver aids like power steering and ABS. For me the pinnacle Porsche is and always will be the 964. After 14 Porsches over the last 9 yrs, 11x 911, 1 Cayman, 1 Taycan and 1 Cayenne, I still own my first Porsche, a -90 C4 I’ve outlawed to my own taste and plan to keep forever. I hope to pass it on to my boys and that they’ll be able to put e-fuel into it when I’m long gone and they can remember their car nut dad with a big smile on their faces while they absolutely cane the crap out of the 300hp flat six❤
The Supersport is a sheep in wolfs clothing. Buy a Turbo or go narrow-bodied for a better drive. Lovely looking cars but very agricultural. Careful when wearing the rose tinted glasses if car shopping. 😄
Such a feast for the senses. A visual work of art. I love chatting cars with fellow car lovers. As someone who began driving at the age of 8 (I’m 55, now), my passion for cars hasn’t diminished one bit! Great video! 👍🦘
As far as I’m concerned you can sell all your cars and buy this one. Nothing new compares to the stunning beauty of the wide G-baby.
Tempted I really am.

Why do you keep changing the name of the channel ?
The channel was Driver 81 for years from the very start. I just went full circle and back to where it started. Thanks 👍

Just sold my 993 Targa 2 weeks ago and got myself a 997 last week. This video speaks to me on so many levels haha.
Oh you’ve gone the opposite way. What made you change to the 997? They are tremendous fun (if you haven’t had one before) great choice 👍

Thanks mate. Yeah I think you’re right. I love driving other peoples air cooled but if I owned one it would be much more involving. Cheers 👍

I have a few 993s and I love the feel, smell and experience. Im looking at a 1985 because I’m looking for another uniquely raw experience
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever. Its loveliness increases. It will never pass into nothingness". Keats would drive Porsche.

Thanks. Yeah it was louder in the real world. The mic will focus on my voice and try to decrease background/wind noise. Thanks for watching

I’m lucky enough to own a guards red 930, got to drive a 992 gts targa for the weekend, would I swap.......not a chance 😊
A very difficult decision but please keep the yellow 997!

“Aircooled” will do. 😄
We know it’s oil cooled but the cars are known as aircooled.
i get all the nostalgia, it does look amazing but you have to move with the times man! 997 keep it forever
I know I don’t think I could part with the 997 if it actually came down to it.
997 v 3.2, sorry its a no contest.....You can never get tired of a 3.2, the 915 is the only issue, the G50 being a thing of beauty

Wheel is perfect and looks/feels great on the car. That’s a good price I think for this car with low miles and magnificent condition. 👍

classic conclusions of Porsche enthusiasts
Your yellow 997 is your trademark. You can NOT sell it, ever!
I know I’d probably be mad to give it up.

Fantastic mate. Ive also driven a 964, they are amazing to drive. Cheers 👍👍
Air cooled cars have a unique smell, leather and petrol. If you haven’t driven or sat in one you won’t know what I mean. 🤣
True story. A true work out and experience.
This was what i dreamt of as a child on the Braun advert❤ By the way, you must have got your tatoos after this video😂
Correct haha.
The Supersport is a sheep in wolfs clothing.
Buy a Turbo or go narrow-bodied for a better drive.

Thanks. I’m missing having an air cooled to wake up to 😅
