I have no issue with the gear being plastic or nylon, it's probably designed to be the point of failure so nothing bigger gets hurt like the motor or transmission which are big dollars to replace. Many high dollar industrial machinery has plastic and rubber couplings so it something goes wrong, they break so you don't destroy something really important. I liked your video, it really helps me to know what I'm looking for when I take ours out of commission to make things go quicker. Thank you.
Nice video in a service provider for Samsung and see this issue a lot I’ve always changes the entire gear box but this is such a brilliant short cut to fix the actual problem just saved me an hour of work tomorrow!

My Samusung washing machine lasted for almost 10 years. Months ago it started to make a grinding noise until eventually it stopped working properly. Turns out my plastic gear (same as your part) was too worn and had to be replaced.
All high torque connections are built with failure points to prevent damage to the high dollar components. Thanks to Samsungs engineering, you changed a $65 part instead of an entire transmission or washer.
Could you help me narrow down what could be wrong with mine. Very similar to yours. I do hear a squeal but the pulsator seems to be working fine. The issue is the drum doesnt activate at all. Spins manually by hand with no issues. What part engages the drum? I cant figure this out! Thanks if you can help!
It’s been more than a couple years, how is the cheap plastic gear holding up? My similar washer is showing symptoms, though not exactly as yours, of failing part. I’m gonna open it up and make inspections soon.

Unfortunately that’s how all brands are going nowadays. Plastic cause it’s cheaper to make them. Other brands including speed queen use a rubber belt to turn the drum.
Mine is doing the same stutter that yours did after you replaced the coupler. I noticed you panned to a new frame in the video. You press start and the drum hesitates, then you cut to a new scene and there is water entering the drum. What happened after you cut the video? My coupler is not broken but seems you were having the same issue.
The washer was just going through its startup cycle as normal where it weighs the clothes and moves the agitator in both directions for a minute or two. I cut the scene because I figured that people wouldn't want to watch the startup cycle for two minutes... So far as I know, that stutter that you reference is normal when the washer is first turned on. It did that from day one when it was brand new. I think that is just part of the startup cycle.
We replaced the same gear that broke on your video. Same steps but after we put it back together it’s now giving us an imbalance error. Do you recall doing a test cycle first?
when you remove the motor there’s a black plastic part in the inside middle part, i’m pretty sure it touches the clutch gear coupling when you reassemble, do you have any idea what that part is called?
This part is plastic on many other machines not just samsung. Ge, whirlpool, maytag all have plastic parts. Even speed queen uses plastic in vital areas. I do not agree with it but we live in a throw away culture unfortunately
Dont buy Samsung anything for your home. I have a electric samsung stove, burners only have one setting "high" doesn't matter how low i set it, it burns everything, i have a similar washer, always goes out of balance and does a rinse cycle again and again, the dryer always adds more time to dry, even when the clothes are completely dry, my samsung laptop the bottom shell is falling apart.y samsung microwave makes loud popping noise like i put metal in it. All these products are around 4 ro 5 years old. Ohh yeah my son's samsung tablet overheats and shuts off. Samsung is trash.
No, he’s not lying. I’ve similar one and there’s a recall put out but their solution doesn’t address this: they only offer you to reinforce the top part or give you a rebate.

So far as I know it's still working. I sold the house a few months ago. Good luck!!
They make it plastic so the plastic part goes before the more expensive parts break .
Any suggestions on how to fix the gear from sticking? Mine does not freely move with the spring in and out.
I would probably hit it with some liquid silicone or graphite lubricant and see if that fixes it.

I have no idea what that's called unfortunately. But if you look up a parts diagram on a parts website, you can probably figure it out that way.

There's a recall issued on these samsung washers so call their corporate office about their recalls on this samsung washer.
