This might be weird but I just want to say I've been watching your videos for awhile for the financial advice/ recipe inspo but your videos are also a huge comfort to me. I'm in my early 20's and have an estranged relationship with my mom and a lot of times I watch your videos when I'm feeling anxious. I am so thankful for your content and I love your energy!

This is a simple Flatbread recipe:
    1cup self raising flour
    About 1cup Greek Yogurt
Mix up to a dough, now you can roll it out for Flatbread or pizza dough. Also if you rap it with plastic wrap & put it in a zipploc freezer bag you can freeze it.
You can pan fry it or bake it in the oven 400 degrees until it rises.

My daughters FAVE meal is something that one night I just made from stuff we had at home. One of those “what the heck am I gonna make tonight?” nights. I put a big can of chunk pineapple, some chicken breast, soy sauce and Siracha sauce in the crockpot. Served it with some white rice and a bag of frozen steam in the bag broccoli. Ever since it’s been on weekly rotation.

Building a pantry from scratch can be expensive. So I recommend starting slow. When there is a sale on items you use regularly (canned tomatoes, canned beans, rice etc...) but 1 or 2 extras without blowing your budget.
Starting out new and need spices? Many of those spice rack sets come stocked. For 19.99 I got the spinner and 18 containers ranging from celary salt, rosemary, garlic salt, cumin, paprika, cinnamon etc... Sure they aren't the highest quality but they are a good start. At Trader Joe's I'll often try one of their new spice blends (they have a dill one out now that I'm about to go grab).
Can't afford all those fancy pots, pans and gadgets? Guess what people sell for cheap at garage sales or donate to GW? Give it a good clean and presto - you to are now a proud owner of an instant pot/slow cooker/air fryer. It is amazing how many people buy with the best intentions of trying and then are too intimidated to try this new tool and eventually...
Growing up there were seasons my mom prepared for: Canning season - jars were saved all year, seasonings etc were stocked up on and markets were scoured for fruits that were right at the end of their sell life - a huge flat of peaches, pears, appricots that you can't eat before they spoil? no worries, they are getting canned TODAY.
Case lot sale season? We were ready - mushroom soup can be used in lots of things. Beans - gotta have them. Tomatoes - going to use them....
Over time that pantry builds up. And then the trick is to know what is in there. Tomatoes are on sale again? But you have 15 unused cans... keep walking.

My mom makes "canned soup" herself. She makes a huge pot of soup base (stock and veggies) and then preserves it in jars. These are preservervations, so they can stay shelved for a veeeery long time. Later when we are in a rush or just lazy, all we need to do is pop a jar open and add it to water, bring it to a boil and BOOM! Soup made. Of course the potatoes, meat and/or any additional veggies go into soup on the wish. And I used to bring jars with this soup base with me when I lived in university dorm, as a quick to make home meal. This is a winner. I really need to catch my mom making these so that I can learn how to make them myself.

Yes you do. My dad made the best cornbread he was asked to take to every family gathering. He always had cornbread at home but it didn't last long if any of us were there when he was cooking. He's gone now and so is the cornbread. The recipe was in his head. Get every recipe you can now and I'd suggest writing down her memories of growing up. Not to be a downer but unfortunately we don't realize how fast life goes by until something happens.

If you are goingo to buy Honey and pure Maple Syrup then make sure you buy it in glass jars because if it crystalises then ajust drop the jar into a pan of hot water and it will liquify again and be perfectly fine to use as these have NO expiration date and last forever...
Also i would look into making your own Sourdough starter,it's not as scary as you think it's actually really easy and this will eliminate the need for you to buy yeast saving you dollhairs....lol

My neighbor gets USDA food bank boxes and refuses to even try the canned meats. She asked if I'd want them. So I mustered up the courage to use them and they weren't bad at all. I had to get over the scooping off of congealed fat. But with added fresh and frozen veggies it tasted like a home cooked beef roast/ pork roast. I've been struggling with making affordable meals due to being out of work for a medical issue. Sometimes it just takes an open mind to try new things. I might try the egg replacement I've seen it at my outlet stores.

Kfc bowls are my favorite go to meal. I always have the ingredients on hand. Instant mashed potatoes (don’t kill me), canned corn, brown gravy mix, frozen popcorn chicken (I use Morningstar farms), and shredded cheddar cheese. Carbs, fat, protein, you can make it in 10 minutes, it includes a vegetable. What more could you want.

It’s so much easier for me to eat at home now that I actually have a pantry. For 5 years I lived in a space where I didn’t have space to keep anything more than a few seasonings on hand so I ate out almost every day, but now I can always find something to make with ingredients on hand all the time.

I hope folks have been doing this all along. Because times of illness, low income, misfortune, business failures and more all occur. Having extra on hand while going through say a divorce and not having to go grocery shopping while dealing with the emotions, and legal issues would be once less concern.
Recently, we had an unscheduled 15 hour water off in our city as our water department dealt with broken lines. Thanks to my already having water bottles, hand sanitizer, three full water dishes for my cats, 2 jugs distilled water for my nasal bottle, a water pitcher in the fridge and because I saw them working on the street, I had run a little water in my tub to flush the toilet , I was fine.
Pays to not become paranoid because that leads to anxiety, fear and often ineffective ways. However, a slow, steady, well planned method is effective.
I love it when you show us your freezers, pantry etc and talk about the great clearance deals you find.

I'm definitely 'prepping', just about out of storage space unless I start parking my car in the driveway instead of the garage. One thing I'm NOT prepping is any food item my family wouldn't normally eat, i.e. vienna sausages, spam, or MREs. I highly doubt I'll ever be sorry I didn't stock those items, lol.

Years ago, like 4, I had a bad case of thrush thanks to my auto immune disease. My mouth hurt. I could have no sugar. I was able to eat one of my favs; oatmeal. I used quick oats and a little butter and a pinch of salt. I ate this about 2x a day for weeks until I healed. After that I just stuck w oatmeal for breakfast always. I love adding some ground nuts, flax, chia seeds & either can pumpkin, frozen strawberries/blueberries. Raisins, cinnamon & cloves are a fav too. Oats can be ground to add to breads, cakes, muffins, pancakes as well as smoothies.

My middle cried this morning when he realized his oatmeal was all gone. I'll buy ike 30-40lbs of pasta at once and then I'm good for a little over a year! Good Saturday Mornin' Everyone!!!! Got taters in the bucket. My favorite method of maintaining a sustainable pantry and stockpiling items long term for the whole family and the family dog and the family cat is what I consider to be the most practical, utilizing every type of food storage methods and technology available, both old and new. . Except for the fruits and vegetables that get canned, I keep perishable items like meat, poultry, fish, fruit, vegetables and dairy products in the refrigerator on a short term basis until I'm ready to use them for a big family meal - and for even longer term sustainable storage, a large separate freezer, which can store a half side of beef with plenty of room left over for homemade ice cream etc. . I'm considering upgrading to a walk-in freezer at some point.in the near future, if my plans to open a bed and breakfast come to fruition. Sometimes, however a nice round of cheese can do well for quite awhile on a pantry shelf at room temperature - and doesn't mind even if it has to stand there alone.😁 Store bought canned goods get shelves.in the large pantry closet - several for canned meat like corned beef hash, spam and sandwich spread and another for canned vegetables Bread, rolls, grains, homemade pasta, cereals and the like are stored in special humidity controlled bins I order from Amazon Prime - which usually get delivered to my doorstep about an hour after I order them. . Stuff from the family garden and orchard, like onions, bell peppers, tomatoes, cauliflower, cucumber, pumpkins, carrots, corn celery,, potatoes and yams, cherries, blueberries and strawberries get canned in Mason Jars and stored in the cool, root cellar of this wonderful rambling former farmhouse (circa 1867) I share with my extended blended family and several rambunctious dogs raised on table scraps from the some of the finest food from a plethora of sources both commercial and home based. . There's even a special separate "summer kitchen" which I converted to store butter and ice cream churns, pots, pans, utensils, extra storage containers, foil, bags, cutlery, and other meal related accoutrement. Out back in the woods, just beyond the big pile of wood I maintain all year, (for use in an antique woodstove I keep on hand, in case the power goes out) there's even an old rusting vintage still where my great grandfather made some of the finest corn whiskey for miles. Next to it is the rusting hulk of the Ford Model A he used to transport that powerful hootch by the light of the moon on soft summer nights to his eager customers in a tri-county area. Further into this verdant forest of mostly sycamore, oak, pine and scrub, runs a cool stream into which I occasionally cast a rod or net to catch some Brook Trout, Bluntnose Shiners, or whatever takes the bait (just earthworms for the most part). And yes, hunting season means wild turkey, deer, and even an occasional wild boar. Next week, I'm planning on filing for a permit to 3-D print a smokehouse in order to be able to create gourmet artisan handcrafted, beef, bacon, turkey, and beef stick jerky, which interested local merchants can private label for other people to share with their families and their family dogs. Unfortunately, i had to break the bad news to my free range hens today that due to expected egg shortages regretfully numbered are their days of laying a couple of eggs and then basically taking the rest of the day off with ranging privileges' within the parameters of a few very nice rural acres - parts of which are rich with fat grubworms. There's even a short dirt road between the main barn and the farmhouse which they're free to cross to get to the other side as often as they'd like. My rooster Ben overheard me and he ain't too happy either, knowing full well that due to oncoming egg shortages, he'll be "workin' overtime to make sure there's plenty of eggs for me an the family. Thank you Frugal Fit Mom for allowing me to share!!!

The most important thing about buying food as an emergency pantry is to make sure you like it before you buy a lot. Don't just say: "I like this flavor, so I'll like that one too, let me buy ten" before you have tried it. It never ends well. My favorite pantry staples: canned tomatoes, rice, pasta, crackers, and dried & canned beans. you can make so many things just with those combos and a few spices and sauces. Also, protein bars and things you don't need to cook for Hurricane Prep.

It’s definitely cheaper to just keep eating the same thing all the time. Sometimes I decide to cook a meal that needs spices or ingredients I don’t usually buy and it ends up costing a lot. I kind of want to make a two month dinner meal plan and then just rotate through them. Maybe try a new recipe once a week…add them to your monthly meal plan if they’re good enough and take ingredients you usually have on hand anyways.

Don't forget....put U R pasta in the freezer for minimum of 3 days to kill any bugs or eggs. Then, let air dry for a full 3 or more days. Then I usually put in mason jars with oxygen absorber for long term storage which also helps keep rodents and other bugs away😉...or U could put in food grade 5 gal buckets with lid & even store in a shed, basement, attic, or closet if U had no room, those are air tight😉

I really love your ideas! Actually I've just stocked up on pasta today as it was on sale. (Sales price is also higher than it used to be, but still.)
I think it's funny how strange it is to me that Americans seem to have to cook for breakfast or always have different things for breakfast. I grew up on müsli during the week and fresh rolls with jam or cheese or whatever you want and a soft boiled egg on the weekends. And we still do it like this, only that we now have more and more overnight oats with berries. I'm really a morning person, but just thinking about pancakes for breakfast gets me stressed out.
On the other hand lunch here usually is cooked, rather like your dinner.
Also the usual German dinner is Brotzeit (translates to bread time) which is bread with cold cuts and cheese. Which we don't do, because it's so hard to sneak in veggies for the kids ;)
So basically - if you like ONE breakfast (or ONE lunch or ONE dinner), just eat that as often as you want. Also breakfast is perfect, because you'll hardly have guests over to judge you :)

Wow thanks so much for these quick dinner ideas on the side. I was sitting here watching your video and the salsa chicken slow-cooker was just what I needed. Have made homemade salsa the other day but than I got sick and didn't feel like eating it any more at all. Before letting it go to waste, I am thankful for trying this recipe. 😊

I grew up on rice (because my grandma is Japanese and that is what my mom grew up on. 😉). I could not wait to make other starches when I started cooking at 10. Lol! My mom would complain that we were not eating enough rice. To this day she still prefers rice for her starch. These days, I like to mix it up between rice, potatoes and pasta.
My hubby cannot eat tomatoes, so I keep jars of Alfredo sauce on my shelf. Such an easy meal to throw in a jar with some pasta, a protein and a veggie. In fact, I did that last night with ham, peas and homemade pasta. Yum!! 😋

My husband is like your mom! He wouldn't mind rice every day. Our kids only eat sushi rice soooo he tends to eat alot of left over rice while the rest of us have a different starch with dinner.

I have one teenage sauce who doesn’t like red sauce for spaghetti. Lol! My other teenage son will eat anything. They both love chicken Alfredo, though. I’ll add chicken or chopped up bacon, sometimes both, and then I’ll add in either peas or chopped up broccoli florets. Try to always serve with some cheesy garlic bread.

Love watching your content is very "fun"ky, awesome, groovy, and very useful for any kind of situation. Haven't tried Thrive Mkt. I have yet to lossen my wallet and jump on this wagon. Growing up in my family we always have been massively frugal. My grand pa would say "If you can read you can build-it, fix-it, or do it. All depends on if you want it enough to learn it. Besides my mothers cooking skills sucked and I have a very strong sense of smell and taste. After the age of 13 my older and younger brothers bagged me to start doing all the dinner cooking up to me. I was all for it. LOL when any protein is dried of any moisture in 45mins. Is beyond me.

I just got smarter! I bought 8 lbs of chicken breasts at Costco. Then I cooked and shredded and froze some, and cubed and froze some and then froze some breasts whole. I hate when I need cubed chicken before throwing in ip and I never have any.
