Being a nurse, I would say that washing clothes is dependent on where you have been, not just physical appearing dirt. My uniforms ALWAYS got washed every time worn. If you have been in public areas where you have sat on furniture that does not get wiped down, in tight quarters with others, etc. you might reconsider washing the clothes otherwise you are keeping those germs and spreading them in your home. 🤢

We are close to our 41st anniversary and everything you have said here is what we implemented decades ago. I not only cut sponges in half, I reused coffee filters (until reusable filters came on the market) and ziploc bags. When dryer sheets came out, I realized just half a sheet worked perfectly on a large load, so I still cut my dryer sheets in quarters. Our daughter and her family had moved to a city a few years ago with online food delivery-think fast food and restaurants- they didn’t think twice about ordering their lunches and diners per UberEats, etc. Then they moved back to our very rural town and as she was going through the spending each quarter, she realized they had saved over $3,000 by not having meal delivery, yes, $3,000! Yes, they can afford it but now she has built her long term savings and maxed it out and now she’s putting that towards their mortgage, yes, they are financially blessed, but they have learned to pay off any debt before purchasing large items or for vacations. As for grocery shopping, one- I do not have personal hygiene or cleaners, etc attached to my grocery budget, they are separate; we have a $600/month food budget for 2 and 10% of that is for sale items or replacing depleted items (doubling-quadrupling up some items) and to be able to stay at or BELOW that budget, we meal plan and part of the meal plan is utilizing leftovers either for another meal with a twist or for our work lunches. As for plastic bags, it’s ridiculous, pretty much everything we all purchase is wrapped in plastic, even cell phone cases, so recycling is nominal in the grand scheme of things. Before I married, I had an overflowing closet of classic cut clothes, no fast fashion, those clothes lasted another 12 years after we married (weight gin and body changes after 3 children, those clothes and shoes and outerwear were quality materials and classic style so no one even knew they were close to 20 years old when I wore them, I just would buy accessories that were fast fashion to “modernize” the outfit), yes, quality classic styles cost more but they also last a lot longer and through multiple trends, just invest in one piece at a time like the classic white blouse or a classic wool trouser or classic leather flat or heels. We are so use to instant gratification it creates shockwaves through our brains to start waiting for things or save for things or plan a meal plan 1-2 weeks out, but that is how people who can truly afford those cash paid vacations, cars, clothes live, more frugal than the ones trying to pay down a credit card to get the next best thing.

A little tip for your jeans: A stylist from Levi's said you really don't have to wash jeans. Instead, roll them up tight, put them in a plastic bag, and put them in your freezer for a day or two. The cold kills any bacteria and kills most odors associated with worn jeans. Then spot clean as needed. This will keep your denim from fading and your fabric from shrinking. Also, the smallest rip will fray like crazy in the wash, so don't put them there!

At the end of each month, I categorized what I bought and the total cost. Easy to see what I can cut out. It took a while, but buy becoming frugal, I paid off the rest of the car, ALL of the house, no more credit card debt and paid my car and house ins 1 year ahead, which gave me a huge discount and with that discount I paid for my food pantry. Christine - I am a public works director. In most cases, Those single use plastic bags ARE NOT RECYCLABLE in your curbside collection service. They should be recycled at select retailers who have drop boxes in their lobby (target, meijer, etc). They wrap around the conveyor belts at the recycling facility and cause all kinds of problems. They are considered contamination and must be manually removed by processing center workers. I use those grocery bags for covering extra shoes before I put them in the luggage, and to hold what I scoop out of the litter box. Also, they make great trash bags for the vehicle during road trips. I don’t like Mrs. Meyers products either. I prefer Method granite and wood cleaners, and windex. (Did you know Method has a multipurpose cleaner that smells like lime? Heaven.) We have lived very frugally all of our lives, but have been splurging more in recent years. Having lost friends our age in the last couple of years has taught us that budgeting is important, but so is getting out there and enjoying life. We take two or three long weekend trips with friends each year now, and couldn’t be happier. We budget for it the rest of the year, so it all works out. Live life. Love those close to you. Enjoy each day. ❤

Save your spray bottles and make your own "windex". I put in 2 Tbsp. ammonia, 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol and 1/4 tsp. dawn dish soap, fill the rest of the bottle with water and shake well. This makes a wonderful streak-free, grease-cutting cleaner. Plus, the ingredients cost much less than one bottle of Windex.

We use those grocery bags for the bathroom trash cans, for dirty diapers, or cat litter, and I also line my "carbage" can in my car with them. They are also awesome for packing as box stuffer if you're moving. Some stores where I live (I'm in Phoenix) are starting to encourage reusable bags and will actually charge you for the plastic bags. I am personally a huge fan of cooler bags and mesh bags because they're multi functional and also work great if you're going to something at a park/lake/beach, and also if you're road tripping. 😉

In my area recycling does occur. Our public works department sell those recycled materials for which there is a demand. We have to drop off our recyclables at the transfer station and I frequently see them bundled to go and occasionally see the bundles being hauled away separately from the trash. In my state, there are no trash bags like you showed. The thicker ones can be purchased in many but not all stores; Walmart has do disposable bags, even for a fee. My reusable bags are kept in my car so I can’t forget them.
You’ve touched on it in other videos but frugal people plan. I live in a town much smaller than your (1700 people). Most shopping means traveling a distance, we combine errands, plan out a route that doesn’t involve doubling back and my trips frequently involve a friend so two households get errands run in one trip.
Frugal people shy away from disposables where it is practical. I use fewer paper towels because as a knitter I made small clothes (Dollar Tree yarn) that I use for cleaning up after pets. They take up a whole 6 sq inches in my kitchen linen drawer. I stopped buying Christmas wrapping paper and tape. I buy Christmas fabric when it is 75-90% off, make draw string bags for gifts and reuse them year after year. Much less paper and dyes in a landfill each year. Fewer disposables and recycling mean we save on our utilities bill each month by being able to use a smaller trash can for trash pick up.
Frugal people are ants (ant and the grasshopper story). We know that the $5 we save on our trash bill added to $10 saved on our grocery bill are essentially nothing, but the few cents here there really add up over time. I retired at age 60, debt free. As I tell people, I don’t mind spending money, but I hate wasting money.

Put a can of corn on top of that. Next put shredded mozerella and cheddar cheese. Then the chicken tenders. Last thing is the gravy. Did not know gravy could be made from boullion cubes! There was a big scandal in Australia a few months ago when it was discovered that the soft plastics recycling at various supermarkets weren't actually getting recycled. So now most stores have gone to paper bags again. I'm not against paper bags, it's what we had when I was growing up...but the ones they're using now, they're selling for 20c each and they're basically only good for one use because they tear so easily! I don't remember the paper grocery bags being so fragile when I was a kid. The soft plastic bags would sell for 15c each and last for months.

Thanks for the video - great tips for sure! We definitely buy higher quality clothing...my husband and I have had most of what we wear for over 20 years, and we have always tracked our spending. That said, in our family, we wouldn't use 75% of those pantry items...we use salt/pepper, spices, & oil weekly, but all others only a few times per year--no one here eats pasta, beans, or bread--we meal plan, just with proteins and veggies.

Ask your Dr to test you for H. Pylori. It’s really common but most doctors will not test for it unless you have an ulcer. If your dr. will not do the test, you can order one online and take the results to your dr. I did this and got the antibiotics I needed to get better.

I don't have tons of throw pillows. What I have done is make seasonal covers for the existing ones.

Meal planning has been even more important for me since having you go gluten free 2 months ago (gut problems). Panty staples are soooo much more expensive 😢
Edit: I feel you with the stomach trouble. IBS and GERD for 20 years 😑

Great ideas. My mom had her own house cleaning business for years. She used windex for everything, including lifting stains out of carpet. It really works!

I use the Wal-Mart pick up. There is an option when you check out to not have your items bagged, and to bring your own bags. I have fold up crates and freezer bags that they load my items into.

When you have a business like I do, my frugality helps not feel desperate to take on all jobs that come my way, I can afford to be selective about who I do work for. Frugality gives me a priceless gift, time and not becoming burnt out from working too hard.

Frugal people tend to do what they can for themselves rather than pay for it ready-made or for services. This includes heat and serve foods from the grocery store, mowing thier own lawn, and learning to do some of thier own day's. Frugal vs cheap types will often make "investment purchases" like a lawn mower so they can mow thier own lawn. Or a better quality steel thermos so they can enjoy hot coffee on the go; add the fixings and at least rinse out every evening. Many frugal people are continual learners creating a basic skill set (the library and utube are great for this) and building upon it in small bites of increased difficulty per project.

So glad your feeling better Christine. I've been meal planning for years and it truly helps. Yes I believe we've been lied to about recycling. Past 2 years I take all our trash to the dump myself bc its cheaper and I have a truck. Costs me $2 a week and the dump is not far. I see the garbage trucks dumping all the trash and guess what...it all goes in the same pile of garbage as everything else. Some places might be different as well as other states in how they do things, but i see it all going in the same place.

I can totally relate with the trail mix! Early last year I had non-specific abdominal pain as well. The ONLY thing that I craved or that sounded good was the trail mixes from dollar tree. I ate them for probably 2 weeks solid at one point. Not sure what is in it that just cooperates with an icky painful tummy.

Awesome video! I too hate the bazillion bags that Walmart uses for curbside but my Walmart in California has a box to click if I don't want bags! Saves me money plus I'm not left with a ton of bags. Target curbside offers the option to decline the bags at actual pick up. Btw I love your hair! The bangs are goals!
