The day armor battle is my second favourite fight scene of the season. Number one for me will always be Carmilla vs Isaac though. It's my favourite battle from the whole series.
She’s so brilliant a battle strategist she even thought to have a suit of armor made specifically for fighting in daylight. I especially love how her hair hangs out the helmet like a decorative piece
I love this scene so much as a huge fan of Berserk, because to me its the ultimate proof of concept that you can animated any scene of Guts in the Berserker armor and keep it awsome, smooth and good looking. We need a Berserk anime of this caliber
i like how the battle is an extension of their conversation, not an interruption from it, they could have kept talking and explained what they're feeling until we understood, what their fears and goals are. instead they show us. this battle is important to the characters and the story telling. the building fatigue, dwindling motivation and building frustration in this scene shows us everything we need to know about their expedition. that they're exhausted, it's the middle of the day and they just want to go sleep. they've been wandering empty fields for weeks and their morale is low, they were already ready to give up before the humans arrived. as they voice their concerns, their concerns come knocking on their door. a pointless battle over nothing, fighting to be the winner of an empty field, representing the grander context of the war. as striga describes it. (+ it was really impressive how the battle became more stylized as it went on, fading into blurry shapes and blood, as the battle devolves into chaos and striga becomes more and more frustrated and tired) or as lenore puts it towards the end of the show 'why vampires win every fight but lose every war'. the action is more than just action, it's story telling through motion. both for individual characters within their own stories and in the larger context of the anime. great scene. also striga is so fucking cool
Whether you're a Vampire in a suit of armor where the headpiece is incased in the mouth of a Raven like Guts Beserker armor trapping him in its maw, a giant wolf man from Elden Ring resembling Guts himself, or anything beyond - Kentaro Miura will remain one of the most influential Writers / Mangakas to ever live and his influence is endless. He to this day and beyond will be missed.
Striga in the day armour was dope but let's not pretend she would've been a challenge for the Belmont gang or Isaacs legion of night creatures or Dracula. The had these two characters leave the narrative cause although they were awesome vampires. Everyone would've murdered them
Dracula, no. There is not a character in the series, including Death itself, that would ever be a match for Dracula. I can also believe that the core trio could defeat her if they worked together, although one-on-one I'm pretty sure only Alucard could win. Otherwise, it's heavily suggested that pound-for-pound, Striga is the best combat master in the series.
Can't believe I missed that obvious homage, the first time around. I was so caught up in the scene, that I hadn't realised that it was a shout out to the Berserker armor...excellent video.
Striga's fearsome presence makes it obvious from the start that her role in the Council of Sisters is the muscle. Characters that fill this archetype can run the risk of coming off as one dimensional, in that they only care about the fight, however this was never the case with Striga. Speaking in a calm, almost peaceful tone, she instantly dispels any assumption that her imposing presence implies a lack of intelligence and I enjoyed every scene she was in. That being said, I was still patiently waiting that moment when she finally goes full beast mode on the battle field and holy crap was I impressed when it happened. Striga became one of my favorite characters of the show and I really hope we get to see more of her journey as there's so much untapped potential with her.
Morana and Striga's conversation can be summarized as: "We've been murdering innocent people for centuries, our plan is to turn humanity into cattle with no life goal except reproducing and getting slaughtered. We recognize humans are intelligent but we still consider them as animals. And last season, Carmilla had bottles full of virgin blood..." "Are we the baddies?" The Day Armor Scene was the perfect antithesis of Berserk (not that it makes it bad). Guts fights against impossible odds and kills despicable characters (for the most part). Striga fights like she entered all the cheat codes and slaughters opponents who just want their families not to be bled dry and, for all their weakness, show far more bravery than her. It's a good thing she got a glimpse of the situation. But though I don't hate her and Morana, I find them quite boring. Cool design and lesbian couples only get me excited for a minute at most. They don't have interesting plans, they don't have much screentime to make their personalities look interesting, they don't have the occasion to really clash with Carmilla. In the end, I think I don't like them because I'm not interested in media focusing on serial killers. Unless it's a comedy or the bad guy chews the scenery or if they go down in a spectacular manner. That's probably why the Hannibal series (where the talented Mads Mikkelsen plays an indestructible dead body) bored me to death.
Sadly many characters were supposed to be developed in season 4, and then what we got was supposed to be season 5. But the story was so well paced that its hard to think that this show was missing a season in the first place.
I don't actually recall them ever questioning the morality of their actions. The only thing they contemplate is if what they are doing is even possible, or at least if it's worth the effort. I also found the two characters to not be the most interesting overall, but I do think this scene is. Not touching too much on the main argument in this video, it is also the perfect antithesis of all the villains in the last season. Carmilla wants to rule the world, Saint Germain wants to attain the Magnum Opus and Death wants to swallow the world. But here we have two villains, who are content. All they need is eachother's company (and to be fair, a good few dead humans). Of all the villains in the series only they, Dracula and the forge masters got something that could be considered a "happy ending". And in the end, it's because all of them let go of ambition or hatred and became content. (Except for Dracula who got Deus Ex Machina'ed).
@@theposhdinosaur7276 Yeah I was kind of hoping for a moment of empathy from the vampire side towards the humans, showing us that even the most wicked of creatures still have a bit of good in them. But I guess not everyone gets what they want.
well put. imo the story could be longer and have the 4 vampires sisters clash in internal conflict. it would make for a lot of interesting drama. much more interesting than dracula's tired gothic tropes.
actually if i think about it "an avarage person maybe not gonna live the tomorrow" is reminded me that Trevor is not different. He doesn't have inhuman powers like Alucard or Sypha "just" knowledge, mind, and strength what any person can inherit in reality. To the video i think my most rewatched scene is the day armor one and loving it so much, loving the berserk references in dark soulses and loving dark fantasy i still wasn't able to start berserk seeing the adaptations quality and now knowing it will be unfinished...
Striga getting worn out as the fight goes on nicely gives the visual que that she can't fight forever. She is strong, she has armor that protects her from the sun, but nobody can keep fighting forever. If she has to keep entering battle after battle with that heavy suit then eventually she will be too worn out to continue and the humans will kill her. She liked the idea of conquest at first, but sees she doesn't have the stomach for it. Beyond that, she doesn't want to keep fighting forever. What is the point of gaining land and/or territory if all it gets you is fighting for your day after day in a war that never ends?
The animation of the series just got better and better with every season. And it was already great at the start. The animators really deserve a lot of praise.
All this scene made me want is a good berserk adaption and to see Dracula go ham which I don't think we ever saw. Show us why hes the strongest vampire to ever live. His fight with the crew just didn't show that to me.
The fact he never once fought at full power IS the testament to how powerful he truly was. He was driven mad by rage and depression and more importantly: he was starving. He hadn't drank any blood since Lisa's death instead wallowing in misery in his castle. And even then, he gave the main trio a run for their money. He handley beat Trevor and Sypha, and only lost to Alucard because ultimately he wanted to die so he could be with Lisa again and meeting his end at the hands of his son was a fitting end he welcomed.
I was really let down by the day armor never coming up again, this scene was such an incredibly terrifying set-up to what would be an otherwise impossible match-up between her and the Belmont gang or even Isaac, showing that Striga really did not have any weaknesses once she wore it and left me excited to see any conflict from that; they really should've expanded on this instead of the weird russian vampire guy's conflict or Saint Germain's convoluted plot. But aside from that this season was fire
This may be wishful thinking, but I'd like to think someone from Powerhouse or Netflix sent this scene to Miura before he passed away. Great dissection, you approach this from many viewpoints and convey a great deal of information in only 6 minutes.
Unfortunately I think it just comes down to how they must allocate their budget, saving where they can so the intense action scenes/important climaxes have enough impact. I wish quality was consistent too, but anime is so expensive that i'm happy we were able to even get 4 seasons
it's called time management, they can't go ham with every scene so they pick and choose they're scenes before hand and if they have enough time to improve the less important scenes they will but I doubt they had too much of that since they were likely in middle of production when pandemic hit, cutting time whilst swapped to working at home
It's a genuine testament to this show that the gore is often really off putting to me yet I still enjoy it immensely. The action scenes, especially many in Season 4, were always entertaining (S4Ep6 had one that especially hooked me in the first time I saw it). This one is among my favorite fights though, for sure.
Another thing I’d like to point out in this scene is the impact of a commander on soldiers. Before Strigga rallied her soldiers they simply sat in their tents and waiting to be slaughtered, but with one sentence. “Soldiers of styrea cover your skin,” they turned a slaughter entirely around.
Thank you! I thought i was the only one since That whole scene screamed "Berserker armor" from well Berserk but my brother told me "No it is not!" but this video proved my point, okay not actually taking from the whole thing but still, This whole part of the ep. just made me think of Berserk all the way through even can't say it is not. you bring up goblin slayers name like he wouldnt invent 1000 ways to slay vampires if he cared enough to hunt them in the first place. if his water gate with the pressure of the bottom of the sea was strong enough to cut clean through a massive ogre, imagine what it would do to the much smaller Striga
@@WeRNotAlive Stop the cap, shes basically just a glorified Goblin Lord (which GS killed with teammate help). maybe in a 1v1 where he had no prep time? But if he didnt have teammates or prep time is it really even Goblin Slayer anymore?
@@WeRNotAlive Not to mention all his water pressure gate trick involves to work is pulling out a piece of paper and unfolding it in your general direction, which would take what.. 2 seconds to do? Goblin Slayer stomps.
You are delusional if you think Striga isn't significantly stronger and faster than a goblin lord. Goblin Slayer is working at the highest possible diff you can wank him to. And if both sides had prep time and teammates Styria coven wipes the floor with your low-powered mid anime meme character.
@@WeRNotAlive So you think Goblin Slayer loses when both sides have teammates? The literal god slaying overpowered hero on his side with her also overpowered as fuck party, Female Knight, Heavy Warriors (guts ripoff), Lancer, Witch, his main party, and the other 100+ adventurers he was able to gather to defend that farm from a goblin army with champions and a lord? Hell this raises a funner question, Those two guts ripoffs fighting each other. Striga vs "Heavy Warrior (重戦士, Jūsenshi)". The Heavy Warrior has some superhuman feats of his own like clashing weapons with a massive goblin champion at least 5 times his size without so much as moving a tiny bit back, and winning that 1v1 with ease, cutting it in half, aswell as being able to crush a Gargoyle into bits (massive solid stone demons) Ontop of being naturally strong, he stacks it with 4 magical strength buffs like: Strength potion, Ring of Might, Braces of Expectational Swordsmanship, and Magic Glove. Even if you think Heavy Warrior loses, you can't deny it would be a great fight.
If Striga has only ever fought humans or other beings that are clearly beneath her in terms of combat ability, then implication is that she's probably unaware of how powerful she actually is, and that's super interesting to me. It's very similar to Sypha, who's magical prowess in season 1 was almost a sad imitation of the queen of fire and ice she became by the end of season 4. Add this to the fact that she doesn't seem to feel any physical drain or exhaustion when casting spells and it becomes obvious that the limit of Sypha's power is simply unknown, perhaps frighteningly so. Man I love this series.
It really was a fantastic nod to a dark fantasy legend. And so far as the folks who might want to do a Netflix Berserk... Yes. Please do. The worst possible case is that there will be meagre profit from a well deserved Miura eulogy. The best possible case is that we will have an icon adapted for a new generation in ways that garner fame and glory for both animators and manga artists that make kids for years to come say "I want to do THAT when I grow up!" I mean... not necessarily live through impossible trauma to get possessed by demonic armor to fight rapacious other demons. But not specifically NOT for those reasons. Guts and Striga both fight beyond their own limits to protect those that they love; we should all strive to be so noble.
the guy in charge for castlevania (the series, of course) said he'd be glad to give berserk justice by giving it a faithful adaptation if he ever got the rights to it. I hope he'll get the rights to it.
while this is a reference to berserk i won't deny that i think parts of it take a more direct inspiration from Artorias the Abysswalker of Dark souls fame the armor looks incredibly similar to Artorias's and that pose at 1:39 feels like it was ripped right from his boss intro
@@jmanwild87 No, what I meant is that exact pose is a reference to Guts in the Berserker armor and the creators of the show confirmed that they had Berserk in mind specifically.
These vampires never seem to need a nap so maybe attacking at dawn was the best option but if they do sleep regularly during the day then attacking at noon seems to be better.

From a tactical standpoint, it would be better to spread out and ignoring her focus to accomplish the mission. (Destroy all tents). A warlord without an army is nothing. But in general, I liked the appearance of the armour.
I mean, from a tactical standpoint, engaging with a better-trained and better-armed force in an open field is suicide, and if you move, Striga gets you. XD
That armor technically looks like a reference to Berserk, but for dark souls players, she looks like a reference to a reference to Berserk's Guts. Basically what I'm trying to say is that it looks similar to Artorias of the Abbys. These colors and the shape of her armor.

@@danemarherne4954 oh it would... armor is not bulletproof and it's day time. You might be dead but point blank range with full clip would do
@@hoangdung7494 You’re forgetting that automatic weapons are shit at hitting targets accurately, and that this is armor made for a vampire which can easily be made to be heavier (therefore more durable) than what humans can wear.
@@Falloutlover1011 Then AA-12 automatic shotgun it is.
The day armor battle is my second favourite fight scene of the season. Number one for me will always be Carmilla vs Isaac though. It's my favourite battle from the whole series.
Ditto
Goblin slayer has been real quiet cause he doesn’t care about anything except them Goblins.
(+ it was really impressive how the battle became more stylized as it went on, fading into blurry shapes and blood, as the battle devolves into chaos and striga becomes more and more frustrated and tired)
or as lenore puts it towards the end of the show 'why vampires win every fight but lose every war'. the action is more than just action, it's story telling through motion. both for individual characters within their own stories and in the larger context of the anime. great scene.
also striga is so fucking cool
Everyone would've murdered them
Pretty sure striga is stronger than carmilla
Dracula, no. There is not a character in the series, including Death itself, that would ever be a match for Dracula. I can also believe that the core trio could defeat her if they worked together, although one-on-one I'm pretty sure only Alucard could win. Otherwise, it's heavily suggested that pound-for-pound, Striga is the best combat master in the series.
@@s.g.7572 I believe that death could beat ol' Drac, but no one else. Striga might've posed a challenge, but he would still win
Netflix, get this studio the rights for Berserk, and give them the budget to make it great.
I love your dissections of stuff like this. Makes me want like a 5 hour review of Castlevania as a whole, which would probably never happen. Love it!
Never say never. I still have a lot to say about Castlevania!

Can't believe I missed that obvious homage, the first time around. I was so caught up in the scene, that I hadn't realised that it was a shout out to the Berserker armor...excellent video.
And I'm absolutely sure they used Nightmare's moves from SoulCalibur as a reference for the attacks she uses.
And Artorias’s moves from DS1
im convinced that this entire episode was made just to make this scene happen
If these guys don't make a
beserk adaptation I'm gonna be mad

How narrow minded are you?
This scene was better than the CGI fights in the Berserk 2012 trilogy.
Damn bruh, that was one helluva breakdown. You just earned yourself a subscriber.
This is not talked about enough, some of the absolute best characters writing running right now
Morana and Striga's conversation can be summarized as: "We've been murdering innocent people for centuries, our plan is to turn humanity into cattle with no life goal except reproducing and getting slaughtered. We recognize humans are intelligent but we still consider them as animals. And last season, Carmilla had bottles full of virgin blood..."
"Are we the baddies?"
The Day Armor Scene was the perfect antithesis of Berserk (not that it makes it bad).
Wow ! I didn't saw it that way
Sadly many characters were supposed to be developed in season 4, and then what we got was supposed to be season 5.
As soon as I watched this scene, my exact thoughts were "Okay, I think they can do Berserk."
I liked this video. I love me a video that does an excellent analysis of a moment from a show.
actually if i think about it "an avarage person maybe not gonna live the tomorrow" is reminded me that Trevor is not different.
I wish leanor didnt commit suicide, she was castlevania waifu
The Day Armor looks like a combination between Artorias' because of the blue cloth and the helmet. And the other is of course the berserk armor.
So far it's better than any Japanese take on the Berserk armor... AND IT'S NOT EVEN THE BERSERK ARMOR!
Im a berserk fan and love how they used attacks from the manga for her scene.
I'm really glad I made it through the first episode of season 4, despite how dull it was. Because the rest of the season was phenomenal.
okay you got me i'm gonna watch castlevania
Her hair kinda looks like guts cape...
Glad I was not the only one to notice this connection. R.I.P. Kentaro Miura.
Ironically badass and tragic at the same
I was really let down by the day armor never coming up again, this scene was such an incredibly terrifying set-up to what would be an otherwise impossible match-up between her and the Belmont gang or even Isaac, showing that Striga really did not have any weaknesses once she wore it and left me excited to see any conflict from that; they really should've expanded on this instead of the weird russian vampire guy's conflict or Saint Germain's convoluted plot. But aside from that this season was fire
This may be wishful thinking, but I'd like to think someone from Powerhouse or Netflix sent this scene to Miura before he passed away.
Great dissection, you approach this from many viewpoints and convey a great deal of information in only 6 minutes.
1:46 crys sniff yep
I find it a bit annoying that Castlevania has beautifully animates scenes like this but in others the animation quality goes wayyyy down
I don't
Unfortunately I think it just comes down to how they must allocate their budget, saving where they can so the intense action scenes/important climaxes have enough impact. I wish quality was consistent too, but anime is so expensive that i'm happy we were able to even get 4 seasons
it's called time management, they can't go ham with every scene so they pick and choose they're scenes before hand and if they have enough time to improve the less important scenes they will but I doubt they had too much of that since they were likely in middle of production when pandemic hit, cutting time whilst swapped to working at home
That’s just how animation works. To have enough time to make beautiful fight scenes, it’s necessary to simplify much of the other stuff
time to go on a binge I guess, keep the good work!
I love to believe that Castelvania happens in the Berserk world only 100s of years later. The Berserk armor did change from skull to wolf for guts
I loved Striga and Morana's story.
castlevania has such amazing animation of fight scenes, i kept jumping on my chair throughout
"no such thing as too much time praising Miura" and that's a subscription from me.
I don’t get why all vampire if there awake at night wear armor or clothes to protect themselves from the sun or use something like idk sunscreen magic
Don't really know what exactly makes it my favorite, but the intro to s2 e3 with Hector still holds that spot. Followed closely by day armor scene.
This entire scene was the dopest shit ever.
If they do i know without a doubt in my mind they would be faithful if they do take up the rights. All i can say is THANK YOU!!
you bring up goblin slayers name like he wouldnt invent 1000 ways to slay vampires if he cared enough to hunt them in the first place. if his water gate with the pressure of the bottom of the sea was strong enough to cut clean through a massive ogre, imagine what it would do to the much smaller Striga
He’d be dead before he could get off any of his tricks. Striga stomps.
Nice little homage, very wholesome.
I changed my gamer tag to Striga immediately after watching this
If Striga has only ever fought humans or other beings that are clearly beneath her in terms of combat ability, then implication is that she's probably unaware of how powerful she actually is, and that's super interesting to me.
Man I love this series.
mimicry is the most sincerest form of flattery
It was like the best alternative to a animated Berserker armor scene...(don't talk to me about the 2017 thing, it never happened)
RIP Kentaro Miura
It really was a fantastic nod to a dark fantasy legend.
And so far as the folks who might want to do a Netflix Berserk...
Yes. Please do. The worst possible case is that there will be meagre profit from a well deserved Miura eulogy.
The best possible case is that we will have an icon adapted for a new generation in ways that garner fame and glory for both animators and manga artists that make kids for years to come say "I want to do THAT when I grow up!"
I mean... not necessarily live through impossible trauma to get possessed by demonic armor to fight rapacious other demons. But not specifically NOT for those reasons. Guts and Striga both fight beyond their own limits to protect those that they love; we should all strive to be so noble.
the one thing that captivated me was her roar! which was somewhere in-between an immensely powerful woman and an actual lioness
the guy in charge for castlevania (the series, of course) said he'd be glad to give berserk justice by giving it a faithful adaptation if he ever got the rights to it.
I hope he'll get the rights to it.
I kinda hope he get to see this scene before he died I like to think that he got to see how much his art influenced others

this scene got me to binge the entire anime in one day, i want season 5 so fucking bad
i think they confirmed that there wont be another season, rather another show but in the same universe
while this is a reference to berserk i won't deny that i think parts of it take a more direct inspiration from Artorias the Abysswalker of Dark souls fame the armor looks incredibly similar to Artorias's and that pose at 1:39 feels like it was ripped right from his boss intro
Artorias is referencing the same source.
I never said it didn't. Just saw a more direct inspiration and figured I'd point that out
@@jmanwild87 No, what I meant is that exact pose is a reference to Guts in the Berserker armor and the creators of the show confirmed that they had Berserk in mind specifically.
These vampires never seem to need a nap so maybe attacking at dawn was the best option but if they do sleep regularly during the day then attacking at noon seems to be better.
Carmilla desperately needed Her for Isaacs invasion!
I wish this season wasn’t rushed and actually decided to split this season into two. That way we can get some necessary character development for the vampire sisters, death, the alchemist guy forgot his name. Isaac.
It felt like every character had a huge amount of development off screen in the span of 5 minutes.
Besides that still loves the season

From a tactical standpoint, it would be better to spread out and ignoring her focus to accomplish the mission. (Destroy all tents). A warlord without an army is nothing.
But in general, I liked the appearance of the armour.
I mean, from a tactical standpoint, engaging with a better-trained and better-armed force in an open field is suicide, and if you move, Striga gets you. XD
I want to watch this series for this scene. So Brutal!
fuck. what a great scene.
That armor technically looks like a reference to Berserk, but for dark souls players, she looks like a reference to a reference to Berserk's Guts. Basically what I'm trying to say is that it looks similar to Artorias of the Abbys. These colors and the shape of her armor.
It is a refence Samual deets the director is also a fan of berserk be also directed the netflix Castlevania
