  • During JOSAA counselling, while filling in the choices of various Departments students have to rely on scattered bits of information, hearsay and sometimes even guesswork. It would be much better if they can base their options on some reliable information from trusted sources.
What source could be more trustworthy than the Professors themselves of the various Departments!
In this video, I sit down for a discussion with a faculty member from Aerospace Engineering so that students can find comprehensive information about this Department.
The interview is with Prof. Sunil Manohar Dash from the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kharagpur.
    The following questions are discussed:
What is the difference between Aerospace Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering?
What are the broad divisions of the Department?
What are these divisions about? Which aspects of engineering do they cover?
Can you give us an idea of the important/fundamental courses that are taught?
What kind of students (based on their skills/temperament/academic interests) are best suited for this Department?
Students learn various things in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and invariably they develop special interests in some topics. Which students would be a perfect fit for this Department based on their PCM interests? In other words, a student may be considered to be a perfect fit for this Department should be strong in which topics from PCM?
How heavy is the course load? Does it leave time for extra-curricular or co-curriculuar activities (like learning programming)
What kind of core jobs are there? Are these available in India?
In which kinds of industries or parts of industry are engineers from this Department absolutely indispensable?
To what extent do you envisage the future of this engineering discipline being impacted by AI? (Not in terms of research but in terms of requirements of engineers from this Department)
What kind of skills, expertise do you think engineers from this Department would need to develop beyond their core skills?

-Opportunity for students to study AIML alongside Aerospace as a minor.

    11. Aerospace engineering graduates need core engineering skills along with AIML knowledge for industry relevance
    35:53
-The future of aerospace engineering requires graduates with expertise in both core engineering and AIML to optimize solutions using AI or ML.
-Aerospace engineering graduates with additional specialization in artificial intelligence and machine learning are highly valuable in modern industries.

    12. Remain open to knowledge in any branch
    40:24
-Students may not know the full scope of their chosen department initially
-Opportunities exist to transition between industries and interests

    13. Aerospace engineering offers interdisciplinary study opportunities.
    42:29
-Students can study various branches of their choice within aerospace engineering.
-Being sincere and open-minded is important for success in aerospace engineering.

Sir, my humble request to you is to make videos on the following:
    1. Difference between the branches electrical and electronics and communication.
    2. Future prospects of mathematics and computing... From the perspective of both research and job opportunities.
And a general view of the curriculum of the above mentioned fields.
It would be immensely helpful :)

Even I wish to know difference between EEE & ECE Branches and specifically, which one is preferable for semiconductors engineering

    • @SUZAKU__007
      @SUZAKU__007 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      *EEE and ECE comparison*
      EEE ---> My Branch
      >Power System:- Focussed on generation, transmission, distribution.
      >Electromechanics ie Electrical machines (Transformers and Electric Motors)
      >Converters i.e Power Electronics
      ECE --->
      >VLSI:- arrangements, design, CMOS
      >Data Communications and network working and standards
      >Microwave engineering
      *Common Subjects*
Control System, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Linear Integrated Circuits, Signals and Systems
Both EEE and ECE differs in these subjects but all college in India follows CBCS system, so even if couldn't get into either, you can study other subjects. You can also do NPTEL and get certifications on any of your choice.
But there is nothing easy/hard. EEE just needs practice and solving more problems.

    Good Evening sir
I am a class 11th student who is madly passionate about Aerospace Science and want to pursue research in this field. But for research IISc Bangalore is best but for engg. IIT Madras for Aerospace engineering is best. I am preparing for IAT and JEE exams to get into admission in IISc or IIT or IIST. I want to become a Scientist in ISRO and DRDO and have exact vision for India as Dr.APJ Abdul Kalam sir had. I want to develop India's Defence Technology and pursue wide range of research in this field and make India a complete Self reliant.

    Dear JC Sir,
Thanks a lot for such useful sessions with faculty members of different departments.
These videos should be shown in schools for students studying in Class-10, 11 and 12th.
Of late, everyone who wants to study engineering prefer only CS related engineering courses only. Not sure it is because of the job market and salaries offered.
But, does that mean no other engineering degrees aren't useful or doesn't fetch good salaried jobs.
If everyone studies CS, tomorrow who will design/build best quality structures like buildings, roads, bridges which are strong durable and at the same time cost effective.
Materials Science is another important sub-branch which helps engineers to decide what kind of material can be used where, how much heat/cold those can withstand, which material won't be corrosion free, you can keep on telling about so many things.
You are doing a wonderful job despite your hectic work schedule and we are very grateful to have such sessions from academicians working in premier institutions of the country.
Thanks a lot once again sir and wish such sessions to continue.

hlo sir now i passed 12 and looking forward to take AE but i was not able to crack jee so iit is now a dream and there is a very little chance to get into iist...basically i am from karnataka banglore and i have taken a good rank in my respective state entrance exam .so is it worth considering private colleges for AE like RVCE in banglore if i take it will i regret it?...and btw i have good passion towards astronomy and theoritical physics even though i am aware of it only on the surface lvl without being aware of the math involved in it

SIR I watched your video about studying Mathematics but didn't understand clearly what you meant by breaking symmetry in the problems and seeing what happens. It will be very helpful if you demonstrate this with one or two examples. I am Krishanu Karmakar, a class 10 student preparing for boards and IOQM 2024.

professor I have a question, are IITs the only good universities in india that has the capabilities to teach and train aerospace engineering students? And also would recommend students to stay here or find a job abroad in this specific field, thanks a lot for making this video, watched it multiple times to understand the content
