  • Lasse has built a KNX Smart Home and will give us first-hand information today on how the construction went, how it came about, whether he is happy and report a bit about everyday life in the KNX Smart Home.
If you want to get more impressions of this KNX Smart Home - you can find more pictures and videos on Instagram at @the.concrete.dream
Lasse and his girlfriend started construction in 2020 and moved into the KNX Smart Home in 2021. The house is completely black from the outside, with large window fronts on two sides, exposed concrete on the inside, open and generously designed on three floors. This is an architect house.
How did the decision for the KNX Smart Home come about?
In his previous apartment, Lasse had already smartly controlled the light, among other things, and knew: "If I ever build, I'll build a smart home". He is interested in technology and clearly sees the advantages in terms of energy efficiency, comfort and safety.
The decision in favor of KNX was made for a number of reasons: The electrician was a KNX integrator, so he knew his way around and was able to recommend the solution for the construction project. First, Lasse and his girlfriend had the information that a higher additional price was to be expected with KNX cabling for the smart home. But when the professional did the math, it turned out that the additional price would hardly be worth mentioning, since KNX wiring also creates advantages and would save on components, switches, etc. In addition, the condition of the house (thick concrete walls) spoke against wireless solutions, since the signal would not go through here without interference.
In addition, Lasse believes that KNX is a reliable, proven and durable solution that can be used to implement unlimited functions and can also be upgraded with an eye to the future - then without further building work and major expenditure.
Lasse and his girlfriend are currently controlling the light in the KNX smart home, there is a coming home function (basic light in the house goes on), there is a leaving home function (all lights go out). Of course there is also a Good Night function. Shading is also smartly controlled. The windows have sensors so that status lights show whether a window in the house has been left open and is still open. It is heated via underfloor heating, which is also controlled via KNX.
The plan in the KNX Smart Home is to integrate the air-water heat pump and the PV system on the roof into the Smart Home in the long term in order to operate energy management sensibly and efficiently.
Part 2 of the interview is about Lasse's learnings from the construction and integration process, his assessment of the technical affinity of the clients, realistic and individually suitable planning in advance and he answers the question of whether he would like to go back to a KNX Smart Home would decide.
