I find that back turning a threaded piece allows you to feel the starting points of both threads to meet and "fall back" from each other. This allows the threads to start into each other cleanly. As a avid viewer of this series, it is most enjoyable to watch the reassembly of the D2 into the best machine that could be made from machine that you pulled from behind that building. I find your begrudging affection for this machine to be what hooked me, and probably a lot of others to continue watching. As it and you were being pulled around by Sr. and the steering clutch broke loose that first time...the look of hopeful optimism was infectious.
There are channels that deal with similar equipment that I have seen and had to leave, because the Host was obnoxious. Or faking it till he makes it. Sorry, I've got other things to do than that. You sir, are always enjoyable to watch and everyone knows that you have and will put in the work required to have a successful rebuild. Thanks Squatch253

Squatch, we've met in the past I believe when I was a kid through some sort of ACMOC meet up or something. Maybe even the 2008 best show on tracks.
I'm George "Willie" dulinskys grandson Jacob!
I have acquired his collection of antique cats and need resources like you to help revive a few of them!

Covid is just the distraction, while we struggle with masks or not, vaxx or not, employment or not our elected officials and bureaucrats behind the curtain are quietly removing our private property rights, our right to travel, our right to assemble, banning protest, our ability to use cash money and bringing in digital id and digital currency and now seizing peoples bank accounts. TOTAL ENSLAVEMENT ! Until the people wake up and you impact the World Economic Forum affiliated politicians and big businesses that run government and are supporting and driving the lock downs, nothing is going to change. The World Economic Forum, the United Nations UN Agenda 2030 and government controlled media are our biggest threats. Covid is the mechanism by which they are destroying the middle class and private/mom and pop businesses. Many of our government officials including Federal MP Chrystia Freeland, Conseritive Michelle 'Pronouns' Rempel, Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh and BC Premier John Horgan (and i am sure there are many more) are affiliated with the World Economic Forum (you will own nothing and be happy). What little democracy we have left is in the process of being subverted. Our elections are supposed to "feel" organic and grassroots but these people are groomed and then presented for us to "elect" and then they magically do the opposite of what we want them to do.
They are going to tax you out of your car with $10 a litre gas and force you to live in their smart cities, when will you say ENOUGH?!
The whole idea is to print money till they destroy people's savings through low interest and high inflation and collapse the dollar and bring in a one world digital currency, add to that more crushing debt for our grand kids to never be able to pay off.
All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.“ Edmund Burke
[“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”]

Thank you , Toby. I enjoyed senior's vid too, hoping that some one would sort that mag tester out - I thought of Kenny like many others. Also hope he gets some more sap out of those trees! I have to sort of laugh when I watch how carefully you put together your cat. When I was much younger I worked at a machine shop in East Peoria. They had bins full of mushroomed out hammers of various sizes. The owner explained that these were what they constructed the cats with. He gave me several of the machined down hammers which I still have. Later I saw them in the plant.

I first saw a D-2 in 1980. A bridge contractor whose yard was across the road from ours had it. The owner told me he was going to restore it and teach his grandchildren how to be Cat-skinners. It looked to be complete, and in about as good shape as yours was when you started this project. The D-2 is proof that superior engineering is timeless. I can almost feel the master clutch snap in and out. Great job!

We are a week away from a finished project.
It’s a pleasure to see all your meticulous work come to this. It’s worth mentioning how not-dirty your hands were after the build: it speaks to how exacting your work has thus far been. The fact that you are able to run all your threads down by hand is also testament to your eye for detail.
There’s a small corner of me that’s disappointed to see this project come to its conclusion: it’s a real pleasure to see you work and bring together your innate skill, your demanding standard and your immense knowledge.
Thanks Squatch. I am waiting on my resto coming back from paint. When that happens, I will be documenting the restoration just as you have. I have learned a great deal from you and the techniques you use: welding out a seized race is a great way of shifting it!

So I´m planning on making it work again, gotta fix a lot of things like the alignment on the sprocket and the rollers, fix the pony motor carb and a lot of leaks and problems, it was running good when parked, but the elements must have done some damage. Thanks for the info!

So nice to see this episode. I can't wait to see it finished and the first run. This episode was very well done. I kept thinking about how I was impressed that you were doing this solo and working around the camera to get these bolts started! Well done.

Due to all your prior prep the D2 is going together so smoothly, like you are assembling a brand new dozer but it looks so much cooler. 👍😎

I'm retired and I hate regular TV. It much rather learn things, such as how machines were made 80 years ago.
