sadly the Civil War ruined a lot of state flags many were changed because they were trying to reduce state nationalism should defiantly bring a lot of them back
The provincial government of New Hampshire issued land grants in the area of what is now Vermont, however later New York would also issue land grants in Vermont. When settlers from New York arrived, a milita was established to protect what the previous settlers believed was their rightful land. Thus the Vermont Republic was born, it would continue to exist as an independent entity until it was eventually integrated into the United States.
I'm glad someone else knows the real history. Sadly Vermont has dove head first off a cliff and the spirit of Ethan Allen and the Green mountain boys no longer resonates outside of the mountain tops and backwoods of this state. I grew up in NH and felt it was more celebrated there and then than ever in Vermont's recent history. Truly sad.
It was written by John Greenleaf Whittier, a poet from Massachusetts in 1833. He was a great ballad poet, known as a Fire-side poet along with Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. They are considered old fashion and dated.

@@hi_scubs Vermont is both the physical and ideological mirror of it's neighbor, New Hampshire, which has more conservative politics but also a very "hippie" influenced culture.
I was born in the upper peninsula of Michigan but I grew up hearing stories of the Green Mountain Boys. The old Republic of Vermont flag is very nice. I actually quite like how the stars are scattered like they are in the sky.
I'm not a Democrat, I'm not an Independent, I'm not a Libertarian, I'm not an American. I AM A VERMONTER. "We owe no allegiance, we bow to no throne, our ruler is law, and the law is our own; our leaders themselves are our own fellow men, who can handle the sword and the scythe and the pen."
I pray the rest of the country understands what my family had to do to make all of us free. New England is the U.S.A. Vermont is awsome but New Hampshire is the one.
Vermont NEEDS to bring back this flag. It's literally the most screamingly "Vermonter" thing ever
The Vermont National Guard still uses it

in my opinion vermont is a really weird state, it's very liberal with a conservative lifestyle. it's weird

Ah, classic Vermont. Lacks in sirens like Maine, but makes up for it with cool songs like this

I had 2 past family members that were in the Green Mountain Boy militia. My grandfather lived in a cabin in New Hampshire till his passing.
