    We have a lot of aspiring videographers as customers and are constantly being asked about how to make quality videos in a home studio. This was one of the best videos I've seen on key areas like lighting. I've posted it for them because you go nice and slow, step by step. Thanks for putting it together.

    Gideon,what impressed me was the clean audio you have. What type of audio equipment do you use? I see you have a button microphone, is that your standard? Have you found something better?

    Suggestion for using regular florescent lights is to place a gel (filter) over the lights to further diffuse them. Florescent lights for home/office use tend to have a slightly green or blue hue. Using a filter, like tracing paper, can get rid of this hue and reduce the need for post-production colour correction.

    Thanks for the instructive video on how to set up your studio. I am loving it.
    Without reading all 87 comments (you may have already answered my question) what lights are you using specifically? Brand and model please.
    You are an inspiration to many, Gideon.

    Hi Gideon! Thanks for all the great tutorials, and your website. You're a Godsend. Couple questions. 1) What about using colored lights for the background? I'd really like to go with a nice fluorescent blue, perhaps a blue neon light for the background. I'm thinking of maybe augmenting that with a couple of plasma strands for movement. Obviously with a white subject light. Do you see any problems with that? 2) If there a PC equivalent to screenflow, and how much does it cost? Thanks again!

    Thanks for these videos. You explain everything so clearly. One question... what wattage lights do you use? I can find 2 x 150W Softbox Photo Studio Lighting Kit on ebay but not sure if that is bright enough to get the white backdrop. I will also need 2 more to light the subject... what wattage is needed for that?
    I currently use 2000w of lights from Bunnings but at the end of an interview the subject is toasted! ;-)
    Thanks for all your work.

    I have a question for you. I actually have the same camera as you do but, we are having issues deciding on a mic to use for the videos. That's one thing that you didn't address was the mic that you use and where we can get it from.

    I believe using green screen is way cheaper and easier than this

    • @WilliamJamshedji
      @WilliamJamshedji 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Having worked extensively with greenscreens for the last two years I can assure you that you are quite wrong. Getting a good chroma key requires not only a good screen (which alone is more expensive than the white background) but also great lighting - preferably a 5-point lighting system. I've already spent about a thousand dollars on this and that doesn't include the camera or computers. And the pure white background (which I also have, as well as a black one) won't require the keying step afterwards as well.

    If you mean for editing, your Mac should have iMovie which is pretty good (I have a free imovie training series on my channel). Then there is Premiere and Final Cut for the high-end editors.

    Do you have any video editing software? Also, are you on Mac or PC. On Mac, iMovie comes with the Mac and can do it quite easily. On the PC, there is a cheap software called Magix that people have said is pretty good. Windows Movie Maker will not do this :)

    Good to see your another Canon 60D user Gideon, I use the same. Thats some pretty heavy depth of field, I guessing a 1.4 50mm?
    For anyone wanting to get some good lighting for cheap.. outdoor flood lights using florescent bulbs works great for me. $10 light and $10 bulb. Just make sure you get 5200k colour temperature to avoid a yellow or blue tint.
