  • An introductory exploration of 'The Golden Age of Saturn' in ancient Greek and Latin literature. This video delves into the popular mythological concept that symbolized a period of peace, prosperity, and harmony before the advent of agriculture, war, and civilization. From Hesiod's vivid descriptions in "Works and Days" to Virgil's pastoral poetry in the "Eclogues," we examine how this theme has been depicted by various classical authors.

There is a very interesting connection with sapphire and Saturn in Vedic texts; the term “sapphire” can be traced to Sanskrit “Sanipriya/Shanipriya” which translated to “Dearest of/to Saturn”. Saturn is the sixth planet from the sun, exhibits hexagonal (six-sided) polar storms, and with this mythological association to sapphire, one must consider that sapphire itself (corundum) is hexagonal (6 faced) in its crystal structure.
    Maybe coincidence.

Saturn is also connected to the occult "Black Sun", the "original" first sun that shone on mankind (occultists say that before Sun,Saturn was the most visible celestial object in the skies). Listening to Hesiod's account, it makes me wonder if it was partially based off of actual oral histories of human cultural development. In the earlier ages, people had an actually easier life as hunter/gatherers than their early farming descendants would have: more secure sources of food but also significantly more labor. So the un-laboring gold and silver ages could represent hunting/gathering. There was the copper age (copper was used for adornment, not tools, like gold or silver would be). The bronze age led to the creation of metal weapons and the invention of the sword (the Ares connection) and an increase in fortified settlements. There was also the late bronze age collapse, which was chaotic and violent. Then the iron age. Obviously not everything from hesiod fits this theory, but enough details do to make me wonder!

While I certainly enjoy your readings of various texts, I am so happy to hear/see you returning to lectures of this type! They're a great review of the materials you reference, and an extremely useful juxtaposition of different schemata which reveal the development of these ideas throughout history...and it's just a lot of fun, too!
It's interesting to see also how this discussion has usefully arisen within the context of your own ongoing translation work, with your reference to the medieval Hermetic Six Principles text (and thanks for doing the RGM[&O]E presentation last weekend in this regard!), and I will probably revisit this video when that work becomes available!
I am going to have to look at some of these texts again, and more closely, and your guide here will be indispensable in that effort! Thanks so much for all of your superb work!

Thanks Phil, and thanks again for coming out to the RGME talk. You're very correct that the idea for this video came out of working on the Book of VI principles of things, but I decided to give the passage as it comes straight out of Firmicus because the version in the DSRP is somewhat corrupted and ends with a very strange section that I can't explain:
"What could be found more subtle than this arrangement? What could be clearer in the works of the celestial bodies? Once the rustic pursuits had been purged, the arts acquired, the disciplines set in order, the darkness of the intellect dispersed, and the light of understanding stretched out, nine divinely united figures appeared in the microcosm as a remedy for all things. In those figures, the aspiration of humankind honed itself through various activities, intellect arose, aroused by the mystery of those figures, and the purified understanding, perceived and distinguished nine disciplines from their ninefold image. Hence, the noble character applies itself to prolonging the course of life well and preserving it better. Thus, in an orderly way, the nativity of the world is established and in imitation of this, human nativity in turn undergoes both reformation and dissolution."
I have no clue what the "nine disciplines from their ninefold image" is refering to.

This is, of course, not to say that a golden age can’t be historic, but a recognition of the category error of projecting linear time upon an ineffable reality, which likely features a post-pre temporal holism immediately transcendent of any attempt to impose structure upon ‘it.’

Sounds like those Saturn festivals are evidence that living in an organized society that’s taxed in return for safety (for the most part) was rejected, at least internally and without being spoken, from the beginning.
Even today, people yearn to be free from tax slavery, and long to return to “nature”.
Technically Roman’s were mostly conquered people so that festival reflects a freedom lost and remembered once a year.

Sounds like Romans leaders celebrating saturn with class reversal events, who’s citizens were also obligated to pay taxes, and who couldn’t escape it, did so to alleviate tension the citizens had built up throughout the year. If it was done yearly.
Anyone living outside Romes imposed jurisdiction and not a citizen I’m sure were seen equal to free beasts, and that the slave could become the master and the master the slave because no order existed outside of their world.
Besides Roman’s relieving stress they got a confidence boost, and were happy to pay taxes because it made them Roman. A better people in their mind.

If you're meaning of "black & white" is evil (black) vs. good(white), we have been in a battle of "good vs. evil" since Adam and Eve were exiled from the Garden of Eden for their sinful decision to obtain the Knowledge of Good and Evil, that they were beguiled into making. "Adam and Eve" were brand new, fresh off the crust of the earth beings that didn't understand anything yet.. were told to not eat a certain "fruit" or they would "die".. don't understand what death or disobedience are.. and since God knows and creates everything, knows this is exactly how it's going to go and curses them?

@@sharon_rose724 I'm well aware of the Hebrew word for God being plural in certain verses of the Bible. This does not negate the fact that the Creator of all life, is one God. All other gods are lesser gods. Adam and Eve were created with free will, and yes, God was aware of what would happen if they ate of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and warned Adam and Eve what would happen as He told them not to eat from it. Eve was deceived by a lesser God, referred to as the serpent in the Bible, widely accepted as being the lesser god Lucifer. Why is it that everyone who tries to refute the Bible, are people that know very little about the Bible. God is real and is the Righteous Creator of all life! To date, there has been no piece of the Bible that has been scientifically debunked with evidence to back up the refuters claims. On the contrary, there are overwhelming amounts of archaeological and scientific evidence to back up existence of many of the people, places, and events recorded in the Bible!

Know why it's so pure and wonderful? Because it is post-apocalyptic. It happened right after the Age of Pisces and is due to return nearly immediately. Look at Saturn-in-Aquarius as the beginning of the age, a return of the 1st Ahau (five having past as of 2020) for which the arrival of Jupiter at Monoceros is the alarm. A prophecy for 2024.
Two millennia ago, we learned from Virgil in the 4th Pastoral:
The last great Age, foretold by sacred Rhymes,
Renews its finish'd Course, Saturnian times
Rowl round again, and mighty Years, begun
From their first Orb, in radiant Circles run.
    The base degenerate Iron-off-spring ends;
    A golden Progeny from Heav'n descends;
O chast Lucina speed the Mother's pains,
And haste the glorious Birth; thy own Apollo reigns!
… The jarring Nations he in peace shall bind,
And with paternal Virtues rule Mankind.

Aye, the Purple Dawn of Mankind or just the Purple Dawn. Oral Druidic traditions in Ireland speak of it, also about the Golden Age and being brought to a violent and cataclysmic end. It's actually even recognised by mainstream science that at one point all the plants on Earth were purple instead of green, meaning light would have been in that spectrum instead of the green spectrum like under our current sun. A lot of plants still use retinal for purple light and didn't evolve chlorophyll.

Petroglyphs of these plasma glyphs are found the world over. The co-incidences in ethymology worldwide are also empirical proof of this, humans of every culture all recognized Saturn as the sun. And Venus as a comet of destruction/ 8 pointed star. And night in pretty much all languages are a contraction of the words no-eight because the first night's were attributed to the absence of Venus. And what we call Chist-mas today was regarded as Saturnalia back in ancient Roman times. Only back then they knew it was a rememberence of the Golden age and it was even law to let your slaves live free for the weeks during the event. The only thing slowing yall down from accepting the facts is the years of Freemasonic indoctrination

This outpouring of purple splendor was the biblical Glory of God.
The Hopi remember this as the time of dark purple light.
The Chinese recall the north center of the sky as the Purple Pole.
And they remember the abode or dwelling place of the Pole Star as the Purple Enclosure or Purple Throne.
The Polynesians say that God resided in a purple house.
Purple is the color of kings. Their long flowing purple robe is reminiscent of this former time.
Purple also denotes rank and authority in religious hierarchies.
In the Old Testament the priestly vestment or ephod of the high priest was purple, blue and scarlet.
Buddhist tradition disallows the wearing of purple at wedding ceremonies. For the color of purple will not last and the marriage will come to a speedy end. This belief hearkens back to the purple dawn of creation which had a limited time span."

in the early moments of every cycle, the rhythm of what's to come has to be set. There's no room for the chaos of the later parts of the cycle; so "his" golden age is merely the one where he reigns alone, before control is disbursed to others, before the vice grip of his cycle begins its first loosening

Unfortunately you have the last part wrong. All of the oldest Egyptian and Babylonian astrologers recorded that Saturn / Osiris / Shamash was the 1st king during an earlier golden age. This was a central idea in all of the oldest accounts, but it was gradually abandoned by astrologers everywhere, not just in Egypt. The mistake made in this video is common and understandable; some ancient Greek and Egyptian copyists themselves left annotations in the margins describing how strange it seemed to refer to a small, faint dot in the sky as the king of the universe. I can provide sources if needed.

If the golden age of Saturn was “perfect” then why do we need to go on a humanity wide quest to a new paradise of enlightenment? Perfection in Ancient Greece was the same word as being whole or complete in English. So it’s more like coming from a place of childishness and innocence to a place of wholeness, kinda like the ultimate person. It is cool to see the parallels between this and Christianity

It makes sense and then it doesn't. So, I thought that the highest God to the Romans was Jupiter. Why the Saturnalia and the idea that the best time for humans was during the age of Saturn? Saturn is the six and Jupiter is the 5, right? I can't help but think that Jove, knowing there wasn't a J or a hard 'v' sound in Latin would have been IOWE(short e) which is pretty much the same as Yahweh. If Virgil is calling the current people "sons of Jove", why would the age we are looking forward to be the Saturnian and not the Jovian? If the Greek name for Saturn/Kronos is the 'Shining One' it further follows that Lucifer would be related to Saturn. But people are pretty hung up recently with this whole Saturn/El/Jehovah thing. If that is the case, then why are the Romans calling Jupiter basically Yahweh? And if Saturn is such a hard master that requires perfection, then why would that be the wild innocent version of humans rather than the type of perfection that comes after all the lessons and purification? To be honest, if the God of Abraham is Saturn, then I would say Saturn has a lot of requirements of humanity rather than the idea that when Saturn ruled (I guess as Kronos?) there was not any law or exploration of other people's lands. The history of Saturn's interaction with his people does not seem like that at all. So, I'm inclined, instead of trying to make it make sense, to just saying like you said that these stories are just crystalized written down versions of those people's values into story form. I mean Jupiter is way bigger than Saturn. If Jupiter came from Saturn, I would like to see his baby's moms.
