WOW what a beautifully kept bike. Had a 1978 GS550B which had twin discs on the front, rear drum, spoked wheels and was blue. My then wife made me sell it a my 1976 Kawasaki Z900 Jaffa.
I had one of these, bought it in 1989, and remember being upset that it had no kick start. Loads of fun, never let me down, started easily from a bump-start every time on a flat battery. Had enough power to leave the cops of the day behind. Mine came with a sidecar which I chopped off. Great bike. Happy memories. Thanks for the video.
Strange how US bikes differ from UK bikes. I had the original GS550 and the GS550E. Both came with twin disks on the front and a disk at the rear. I found the GS550E not quite as fast as the original GS550 when accelerating. They had different carbs fitted. But I really enjoyed riding both. At the time, I use to ride 14k plus miles a year. Only reason I got rid of my original GS550 was because it got hit by a car while parked on the road - 18 days from new. Just run in. It was never the same after the repairs. I decided to cut my losses.
That’s an awesome Bike & it’s such a good example to remember the producers these days that a real classic road bike must have what shape, design and even performance....👍🏼🏍🙂
Excellent super bike, i had it at 1979-1982 until was stolen, when found it, i got back it in pieces for selling by the arrested thieves.
Remarkable condition for the age. I nearly bought one but opted for the Kawasaki gt550 and a shaft drive!..... I think I know which would have lasted longer.....(Kwaks gearbox gave up at 150k miles!)
My first bike (1981). Exactly same color and model - also single disc in front. Lovely memories 👍🇩🇰

Takes me right back to the 1970's when bikes looked like bikes. Not the race replica,or the Harleyesque clones of today.

This was my and my girlfriends first bike a few years ago. Was 30 years old and still ran pretty good.

Is that Gear Position indicator a standard thing or an aftermarket?
It's a standard item.
