and the stewards who stayed fearful allowing for a orderly escape,..no engines and heading for the water ..wow just amazing ...the movie 2016 Scully ..was amazing .. and also the david letterman show that followed ..with both pilots and 3 stewards.././.also i Rem at that time we could play a game on the pc internet where you have control of the plane after loosing thrust and you have to land in the river ..

I read his book. He said he felt no guilt regarding all the celebrity he got with interviews, parties, celebrity photo ops, etc, because everyone got off the plane alive. If one person died, he would have refused all offers.

I was a former recreational pilot and just now watched this interview. Sully was absolutely a fantastic pilot !. Every nuance of his responses to the interviewer's questions were without hesitation, with precision, and without equivocation. The catastrophic water landing in Africa shows the problem. That pilot allowed the left engine to enter the water first causing the breakup of the plane. As Sully realized and stated: the wings had to be PERFECTLY level which he accomplished.

That fast assessment that other options were infeasible was critical. Requires integrating altitude, speed, drop rate and distances to alternate airports.
That came as a gut integration based on decades of aircraft experience.

Based on my experiences with people like him, I’d say he’s a sociopath. And that’s not a insult, many believe sociopaths are all evil, and that’s not the case at all. They simply do not experience emotional states - if at all - as neurotypical people do. And i think sully is one of them. Another give away is his infrequent blinking. Sociopaths have to practice to blink normally, their normal non trained blink rate is very low.

I'm not saying he's not a great pilot; obviously, he possesses incredible quick-thinking skills and is extremely well trained... However-- is saving your own behind heroic? Not trying to detract from his skill, nor argue with other human beings on this site. Unlike the Captain and crew aboard the "TITANIC"-- who gave all of the rescue canoes to their passengers and let themselves literally go down with the ship-- I just don't find this particular story to be a tale of heroism. I'm not saying Sully should have martyred himself for no reason, but..... What am I missing?

Yes, I knew it was a very challenging situation.” Wow, if that’s not an understatement nothing is. The definition of cool, calm, and collected. Total professional. I need to win PowerBall so I can hire Sully to pilot my private jet at all times.

Can't stand artificially structured/edited interviews that are "60 Minutes". Manufactured for sensation and emphasis. Pathetic. Sully is a great pilot though. Katie is (was) a so-so 'journalist'. Promoting talented, eager, hard-working journalists high up the ladder and pay them millions of dollars a year turns them into divas and dingbats. Men or women, every network, same result.

He had some luck just with the fact that it was not only a great landing but a flawless landing. And that not a single person was injured.

@mcclellandt I agree that it was everyone else on the plane who was lucky -- that SULLY WAS THE PILOT! I will acknowledge that he was lucky in one specific area -- that the river was right there. Had the river not been within reach, this story would have had a different ending only because he would not have had an unpopulated area in which to land the plane. But other than that, it was all the skill, experience, and confidence of this man that made the landing a success.
