  • In this, episode 62, DV together with the guys at Terry Walters \Engines in Roanoke were asked by GM brass to update the street 572 BBC crate motor. They went from 620 something to 800 and something HP with a shorter cam. This, plus the carb and intake tests here show how it was done. By watching this you could find out what the best, streetable single plane intake is and whether or not to use a 950 cfm 4150 HP carb or a 1050 Dominator for the best low end.

When I saw him and Terry Walters build that 555 made for 87 octane, and 700+ HP, this 572 in the 800's is an easy step. This guy has this cam stuff figured out!

You better belive he has this cam stuff figured out, WE took one of JJ the Boss"s old 585 motors dynoed it. then had david spec a cam for it. we did nothing but change the camshaft. The horse power didnt gain much But we gained 99 foot pounds of torque. Pretty impressive id have to say.

800 hp on a n/a motor with small cubic inches ain't easy. 427 and 496 are small by today's standard. But 4.6 aftermarket blocks are costly. But easier to get 800 hp from. 4.6 bore 4.8 stroke will do it. Then turbo it for 1250 hp.

One statement, one question. GM chooses the cams for different reasons than you are, cost, availability, reliability, then power, probably in that order. Did you run a air flow meter to see how many CFM the motor was actually using? Or a vacuum gauge in the manifold to see if there was still vacuum at WOT? Great test, keep up the good work

    • @marvingvx1

James, I wish all those that want to criticize would do it as politely as you have done here. I have a tendency to agree here but I m still refining my editing skills. Let me know if you think the upcoming videos are better in that respect.
      Thanks

Joe, 454's to 469's or not they should have still learned something. For more size specific stuff they could buy my book Yes???

@@marvingvx1 It's just that everyone is now going to put a 1050 dominator on there 454 - 468 and expect big numbers when all they'll get is disappointment.

Your info on carburetors is overly simplistic not reflecting all the variables at play
