    Here we are reviewing the canon 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens. This lens is a kit lens and is often criticised for being a bad lens but the forget one thing, it is the best budget telephoto lens on the market. This is the best wildlife/sports lens for beginners and is also the best budget lens for anyone who can not afford more advanced lenses.

    I've been doing photography for over 50 years. Mostly with film. I ve done professional work with both slr and dslr. I got my first dslr in 08. A Canon rebel xs. Shortly after that I was given a Canon 75 300 4 used . It was from a slr. I used this already very used lens for 12 years. It's a great lens and nows was able to get another one used for 129 Canadian. I get great images with this lens at all focal lengths. Thanks fore your great video. This lens is great for what ever experience you have.

    I'm curious will the 75-300mm fit on my canon m50 mark ii? I'm pretty new to photography.

    i got one used for $50. soft & low contrast. this lens works best on FF body. plug in a speedbooster adapter on apsc camera + 75-300mm and whole game changes. max f-stop at 75mm goes at 2.8 and 300mm at 3.5 and that's sick.

    Good review!!
    I’ve owned this Len’s for over 20 years now and have had great results. I also now have a couple of canon L lenses that I predominantly use these days but have dug this old Len’s out to use again that’s why I looked up the review. I’ll be using it on a 5D mm mk 2.

    well i must say i did use this lens yesterday for autumn shots and i find it an excellent lens for the price.i took a handheld shot at a woodpigeon high up in a tree at 300mm and it came out just perfect what a great lens for the price.

      Yes, I 100% agree and the autumn colours at the moment are truly stunning!

    I just started photography a few weeks ago and today I purchased this lens used for $75 along with an RF-EF adapter for a total of $155, the lens is great (for me) with some form of stabilization

    hey i am a little late, but can you tell me how the autofocus is on this vs your other sigma 600mm lens? looking to upgrade.. thanks!

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The sigma lens has a much faster auto focus and less hunting back and forth. You can also set it to focus on things closer or further away to speed it up even further!

    Well I just bought this lens (used) a few weeks ago for 90usd, of course, there are a lot of better telephoto lenses but what do you spect for that price? It's perfect for beginners, once you learn how to use a telephoto lens you can upgrade, but for low-mid level phographers this is just peeeerfectt. Nice video, cheers mate

    This is by far the worst lens i have ever owned. CA are so strong and the sweet spot is arround f8 to f11 wich makes this lens very limited in use. I wouldnt recomend it for new shooters as it can discourage them

  • @rjakiel73

    Decent lense with a speedbooster on an EF-M mount. Auto focus sucks ass and hunts like mad. Better for manual shooting.

  • @dmrcflyr2
    @dmrcflyr2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Since you do primarily wildlife photography, do you use MF or AF most of the time? If AF then what type? Zone or center point?

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I mainly use AF unless the animal is deep in a bush and there are lots of interfering objects. I also use the center point for focus but move this around to get different compositions. Hope this answers the question 👍

    Yoooo!!
    I love seeing SL users! I have been using the SL1 for 6 years, and im not hard pressed to find an upgrade anytime soon.
    The 75-300 Kit is really a cool lens! I bought it used, and it officially died last year. It taught me how be steady, and rely on manual focus. Nowadays, i prefer manual focus. Many of my leses have never been used in auto focus. I even tell people that bash the lense, tjat if its really trash, please donate it to me, im poor and will always appreciate a back up. Not a single person has ever parted from this lens, that they trash. lol
    One Correction Sir 😊
    Canon does make an upgraded version of the 75-300, and it does have the Image Stabilization, and USM. I am hoping to get that upgrade if i cant do the 70-200 that you showed.
    Anyways, I Will Subscribe Sir!!
    PS:
    I own a sigma art lens, Irix, and some other really nice lenses; and i share the photos of course. What I truly love the most, is when I put all my lemses away, and just use the 18-55 kit or the 75-300 kit, and share those photos. A lot of people will have a big dump in their pants after knowing that they (the photos) were taken with the cheap lenses.
    My 18-55 wobbles like an old clunky wheelbarrow, and auto focus is worse than a person with glaucoma, but when it too dies, i will replace it as well :)

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for sharing and I loved hearing about how you use and enjoy the lens. I totally agree with you and all the best for getting the upgrades you want 🤞

    This lens is good for moon pix and bird pix. Also good for Bokeh with trees and flowers. I use it with my speedbooster and M6II camera for an extra stop of light while it reduces focal length. I also used the speed booster to take a f/32 pic all the way down our street along the fence lines at 140mm (as calculated by the camera processor).

    Hi Toby what are your setting for bird photography whit 75-300 Canon lens shutter speed apartur and iso thanks your video are interesting

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on my subject and how fast they are moving, but my go to is ISO 400 max, Shutter of between 300 and 400, and an aperture one stop above minimum so about f/6.3, again it depends on the lighting and the speed of the subject.

      @TobyWoodPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes for the purposes you have said and the lack of need for professional quality, these lenses will be great! They are budget and still very good at their job and work very well foe point and shoot because there are no options such as stabilisation and the like. Hope this helps 👍

    The zoom ring being stiff like it is, is a deal breaker. Would the Sigma or Tamron lens be a lot smoother?

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am going to be totally honest, I do not know if they would be smoother. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to test them out however all the lenses of Sigma's I have tested have been much smoother so I would take an educated guess to say they would be. Hope this helps

      I have done macrophotography with the sigma 105mm macro lens however not with this lens. I have looked into purchasing a reverse mount and one day will definitely explore the possibilities. Thank you for sharing your uses of the lens!

      @@TobyWoodPhoto You're welcome. I've got a 250mm lens to start wildlife photography. I haven't found a used 300 mm lens or higher mm lens near me. Though, I'll keep looking for one. Though, I'm on a budget so that's why I got a reverse mount wich wasn't that expensive to get (only 13$CAD).

    would this lens be good for portraits will the focus on eyes be very sharp?

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This lens is very capable of making great portraits however I would not buy this lens for that purpose. It also depends if you are looking for professional quality, because if so look at the canon 50mm f1.8, but if your a hobby photographer who also wants the reach then this is a good lens for you 👍

  • @ogindigo1285
    @ogindigo1285 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello. Question. For using this camera at a longer range 300mm, could you use a auto focus macro extension to help with less shakiness at that range? Or does that not make a difference? I am still fairly new and still learning what everything is used for.

    • @TobyWoodPhoto
      @TobyWoodPhoto  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Using a macro extension tube allows you to take photos with a larger image to real object ratio hence allowing tiny things to be photographed and have more detail. This may sound confusing but it basically reduces the minimum focus distance so you can get closer to the subject and get more detail. A macro extension tube, when used in combination with regular shooting techniques however will have no impact on the lens shake.
      So in short the macro extension tube has no stabilisation properties but allows you to capture small subjects in more detail.
      I hope this helps and thank you for asking 👍
