Let this be a reminder that material things are temporary, but once we pass away we will all be judged on the state of our hearts and what we did in this world. Treat others with kindness.
To me, it is sad to see something that was so beautiful and a family lived there and had many memories and hopefully happier times than hard times to be abandoned and rotting away. Why doesn't the county auction the home off before it starts to fall apart so someone can buy it and the land at a lower price and then restore it and either live there or resell the home. This would be a much better way than to allow a gorgeous plantation to rot away from old age and weather conditions. 😢
My 5 year old son was quietly walking around house with flashlight, I asked him what he was doing. He said ‘shhh I’m big bankz and I’m exploring this abandoned house!’ 😂keep up the GREAT videos! We LOVE them!!!
I live in Norfolk, VA where every year they have The Azalea Festival. I have three azaleas that have been here since I bought the place 14 years ago. They must live a long time.
What struck me was in the living room, the chair in the corner had an open book over the arm of the chair. Like the person stopped reading and left. Wonder what the title of the book was. Good job. Beautiful home.
I always want to just cry when I see such vintage and antique furniture just left to rot. I'll never understand why people leave so many beautiful things behind.
Well I have left my bed and other things behind. Not because I wanted to tho. It was because I moved in an old house and didn’t know there was toxic mold growing under the house. Months later I find out but it was white the mold so hard to see on things that are light in colour… I left a lot of my things there and left with what was safe. The bed was touching the wall and maybe had mold on it. I didn’t want to risk my health (I found out about the mold in the first place because I got to sick living there and almost died from the mold)
The piece of furniture there @5:03 is called a 'wardrobe'. Some call it a chiffonier. It is a closet before the time of closets. Taxes on houses many years ago counted closets as rooms, and the # of rooms increased the amount of tax. So they didn't do closets. They didn't really need them like we do these days, with so much stuff. They had few belongings, and a wardrobe was often enough for the clothes they wanted to store hanging up. A 'chiffonier' is also a piece of furniture you may see in the dining room, some call it a side board. In that case, it looks like a higher dresser, possibly with shelves on top to display decorative plates or other dining room items. and the lower part stores dining room linens, napkins, table cloths, the like, possibly silverware, serving dishes, and table settings. Just for your FYI. Old people, huh!
This very historic sn kinda sad to see this house in disrepair adventure Big bankz ,thank you. For taking all us along an congratulations on your engagement
Amazing house, But it's sad to see a house left behind and it breaks my heart, but I'm sure those lovely people never thought that their lovely house would be left behind.
A lot of bad history for sure.. It can not be any good history in my eyes if they were keeping slaves.. But I am sure he raised a beautiful family who can tell others about their ancestors' history.. Thank you for sharing all the beautiful mansions you are finding
Sometimes I feel when a house has been handed down through the generations, I believe that people leave some things behind for the next generation to be able to enjoy. But it just so happens that circumstances hit peoples lives and things end up abandoned for some reason or another. None the less, I can't believe that some people honestly don't take some of this old furniture and try and refurbish it instead of letting it sit and rot. It's so sad because furniture today is not as well made and doesn't have the character that it did in times past. Thank you Big Bankz for all you do, and congratulations on your engagement.
I absolutely love this house. The first bedroom you go through with the 2 beds is my favorite. It's so bright and feels like a very comfortable room to be in. The paint color helps add to that as well. I wish I had the money to fix it up
You been doing this awhile now, you think you would learn the proper name of architectural pieces and types of antique furniture and learn time periods things are from. Maybe you need to find someone to go along with you who has some knowledge that can tech you.
The closet type piece of furniture was called a chifforobe in the South, The blooming bushes were either azaleas or rhododendrons The coffee table with shaped like a painters palette. I don’t like to be a Karen but please please do your research before you comment and maybe do a voice over on your videos.
Hate to keep buggin you brother, but please with that amount of mold, wear a respirator at the minimum. Maybe do a voiceover. Your health is worth it man. That stuff is toxic and accumulates in your body. Some people cant even detox it properly and it will cause health problems alot faster than you think.
@candice446 How u know tho? U assuming they owned slaves. Many had plantations and did not own slaves. Dont let that narrative the left push all day keep you on the mental plantation. They bring it up every election cycle yet never pass any policy to help black folks. Only make the portion of our community in poverty, stay in poverty. Also dont forget why the republican party was formed, to end slavery.
I paused the video and did my best to read the cursive in the binder (2nd page): "Teach music for use in life. Has music any effect on moral character. This becomes a moral force by what we do with it. Like any other moral influences a force for good. One can do more important things with superior music than inferior. There is a need that people learn to enjoy better music and have a wealth of it." You were doing well with the part you read. Interesting thoughts - written by a music teacher? That upstairs bedroom was very sweet & light.
I agree; the house and furniture are beautiful! Sad that it's been forgotten and beginning to cave in. I'm always interested in the kitchens. Thank you for an amazing tour! 😊
All old buildings have a good and sad history. The house and furniture are amazing; it's a pity no one wants to fix it up. In the culture today a person would be called all kinds of names for just wanting to do anything good to the place. The handwriting is a picture in itself. We have lost so much over the years.
I will never advocate taking something out of an abandoned house. The notebook with cursive writing would be coming with me. I would bring it to a historian. There has to be history in that home and it is in that book.
You can tell that there was a lot of family living there at one time. The one bedroom must have been an elderly man's bedroom. There were at least six chairs in that room that were set up like they were visiting him. I love the iron beds! It makes me sad because it looks like they left at Christmastime.
@@patriciaphelps5875 so much time and hard work went into them. My grandma used to talk about how the ladies would get together and work on them. So much history in each one.

I really liked this video, but for some reason, this house felt creepy. Can't explain it, but there was something weird about it. And I don't even believe in ghosts. I do appreciate the time you spent making this video. Thank you!
I live in Chesapeake and we all know the South gets plummeted by Hurricanes. The weather and high humidity is what is trashing that house. In Virginia we are lucky if the umbrellas we buy last 1 season. I bet it was gorgeous when it was made and lived in. Do be careful and wear isolation style masks around the mold, it's really awful in some places.
At the first bedroom, someone has put a woven RUG under an afghan on the bed. Some non decorators wandering loose. 🤣 Looks like it might have been used as a vacation home or a bed & breakfast type place.
I cannot lie I'm a sucker for old furniture Some of that furniture most of it will never be seen again I would ask people nearby anybody I could if I could salvage anything and everything. This is really sad these things are going to just be turned into trash. I would definitely do what I could to get that stuff.
That train table is the same train table my kids had a couple of years ago and we had a very similar train set. Either it wasn’t “decades” or someone was squatting there with kids.

One if my least favorite!! Nothing special at all. Sorry
We know that, but this is interesting
We'll also be judged by the material stuff we leave behind.

Me too. I don't understand it I would dream about owning things like that myself.
It amazes me how a house can decay without love
Happens to humans too without love they decay
It begins to dry rot
I couldn't imagine just leaving all the antique furniture and stuff there to rot.
I know it just breaks my heart😮😮😮😮😮
I wonder if taking those things would be against the law at the time and then it just was too far gone by the time no one owned it…
