    Make sure the pallet is HEAT TREATED and NOT treated with METHYL BROMIDE.
    if the pallet is stamped with a HT, or KD (kiln dried) you’ll be fine.
    If you can’t find a stamp or it is stamped MB, avoid using it.

    • @ourkilkennyhomestead2006
      @ourkilkennyhomestead2006  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Archie, good comment and thanks for highlighting that issue. Almost all pallets are heat treated as required for ispm 15 standards. I see that you are in Canada so I can't say that all Canadian pallets are produced in this way, however in Europe and UK they are all heat treated. Here is a link to a site with info about ispm15 standard which includes a list of countries which "officially" comply with it.

      @@ourkilkennyhomestead2006 I have used some pallets for home use and we have seen some creep in from other areas so that’s why I mentioned it.
      When I started a garden last year, someone mentioned about the possibility of the tainted pallets.
      I haven’t seen many and when you do they seem obvious at a glance, (grey, dark, oily all the stuff you don’t want in your food) but some people might not even be aware that pallets are even treated at all.
      I’ve been thinking about how to set up some raised beds so now with your video, I don’t have to think anymore!
      Sadly, a lot of our pallets here seem to be the blockless ones (thick bracer boards like a rotored 2x4 run the length) but that just means a little more imagination.
      I’ll use the heavy bracers as legs!
      Thanks for the video!
