- Fault found! The gearbox input bearing was replaced = noise gone. Go to this link to hear what the bearing sounded like once removed • Faulty input bearing c... . I hope this helps you - an important thing to note is the sound occurs when in neutral, car running and foot OFF the clutch pedal.

It's the Dual Mass Flywheel
I am having the same issue, thanks for the info
راشد الكعبي glad to be of help. An easy fix and very cheap if you do it yourself.
How to fix?
@@tomassaray1966 I suggest getting the workshop manual for instructions. Pulling a gearbox apart is job I was extremely nervous doing the first time. The second time was so much easier. Read instructions and take lots of pictures.
What was the problem? Throw out bearing? Mines doing the same on my R53 x

What was your issue?
@@brycemacinnis512 the problem was inside the gearbox….sell the car
Input schaft release bearing Needs to be replaced, if not it can break your transmission
So this repair was not a gearbox recon but an easy fix after removing gearbox? Mine is doing a similar thing (noise when off clutch) but I can also hear it whilst driving, did you have the same issue?
This was a while ago now and can't quite recall the sound while driving. I think it did by recollection.
The history of the gearbox.. I pulled the gearbox apart in it's entirety. It needed a new lay shaft and bearings (including the one that went bad).
Months later, the noise started, so out came the gearbox and I put a new bearing in again. Noise has now gone and it hasn't returned. In fact, the gearbox feels almost new from a simple recon and changing oil a few times.
It was just a dodgy bearing.
@@rodf340 is it the release bearing?
