This was a phenomenal Video by Dane, a lot of wisdom in the Short Film. However, for anyone confused, the SSL G-Master Buss Compressor has a slow cohesion or blend that makes it more natural to listen to.
If your low frequencies, such as (Bass, Cello, Kicks, & 808s) do not blend with the song you created while having SSL G-Master Buss Compressor Enabled/Active, Then you should switch to Logic Pro X Compressor, which is underrated (It is a must to know what your hardware is used for), Logic Pro X Compressor has a more of a loose feel & freedom to it that is used for genres like (Rock, Hip-Hop, EDM, & Pop), this is just as few genres that involve more of an edge of imperfectness, it's not always going to fit the setting or call for it but these genres can get away with it while using Logic Pro X Compressor. Listen very closely, you can tell the difference as Dane explained.
Both are great VSTs to add to your toolkit or add to your arsenal for your mixes for sure, It's all about using your GUIs for what they were intended to do, our job is to listen, & choose the great parts, then evolving them/creating them into something even better.
I hope this helps anyone lost!

I love that plugin on a live drums bus. It's great with the kick, but it's amazing with the cymbals, something I just can't say about the stock.

i don't understand how we are supposed to compare accurately when the logic compressors are reducing the volume more decibels than the SSL. wouldn't that be contributing to the pumping? & i know you said you gain matched as much as possible but it sounds to me like both SSL's are not matched gain-wise. i am not whatsoever trying to over-criticize or complain or act like i know more than you by any means. just some things i noticed. great video regardless.

Where can I find this version of the song

Seeing the comments below - I agree setting and compressor without using your ears to at least match as close as you can is not going to work. I think you’ll find most software can work to achieve similar results. Waves have a strong affiliate thing going on. I use waves but not the SSL stuff, not because it’s bad I have the SSL official plugins, but I’ve been able to match similar behaviour and I could happily achieve the sounds I need with the Logic stick plugins if I had to. The fancy plugins just create inspiration mainly.

This video is kinda flawed, as he's got the logic compressor set to a release time of 5ms while the G-Buss is set to 100ms. He also didn't match the level of gain reduction, with the logic compressors reducing about 1-2db more on average. I understand there will be minor differences between compressors and settings, but this is simply an oversight that makes it impossible to make any objective conclusions about the compressors being used.

I agree. Perhaps if some saturation on the logic compressor was used things would sound closer. If the SSL emulations are done well, I'm sure there was some saturation happening in the original analog units. Less pumping is achieved with the side-chain filters. I use the vintage VCA Logic compressor like an SSL bus compressor often and it sounds great with saturation turned on and a side chain low-pass to prevent bass pumping. Attack and release are set accordingly for the material.

Agree with both these comments. The Logic compressor is no joke

Apologies as It definitely was an oversight on my part and would explain the tonal difference. Thank you for sharing! I've actually converted to the native SSL version due to the flexibility with the side chain hi pass filter.

Great video man! Always love your stuff. What software are you using to record your screen shares? Im looking for one that records in stereo and sounds like your does! Thanks for any help and keep up the great work.

Started learning "Lonely Day" by System of a Down last night. Have the
instrument rhythm section completed first draft. Played over a drum track my friend recorded for me. Will add in lead guitar
and vocals later. Rough EQ and balancing:
