As a newbe I find your videos very helpful. You come over like a friend talking to a friend. Thank you for putting in the time and effort. Regards Philip
Shift Clicking a Layer.... DUDE!!! That right there is going to save me so much time! This is just one tiny example of how great it is to watch another use Lightburn, there are so many tricks and tips that I'm always learning something!
Thanks Rich, always like these kind of videos because they are SSSOOO helpful at getting ME and others into LASERING. Thanks again and PLEASE keep them coming. I also enjoy THE LASER MAKERS REALM. That is always a helpful place to go.
I made a wooden hammer from 1/8" scraps that I use for this kind of thing all the time! It is heavy enough to do what I need it to do but the wood face makes it safer on my materials.
Seems so tricky but dude you did well....sure I'm not gonna do one as in Italy it's prohibited but your method was useful for any other product. Gazie Brother
Hi Rich. Again you are making it soo much easer for us who is just starting in this Laser stuff. Great tips, I will try doing it in wood. Great short video. Thank you.
Friction fit is great but If you ever do need to glue pieces of acrylic together try using acetone. I used to make acrylic items for hospitals and we'd use acetone as glue. It literally fuses the pieces together with no glue line. Use a hypodermic needle to apply the acetone. Awesome video!
Hoping you will do a video on making the Hawk that’s sitting behind you on the table! It looks like it’s layered. This video helped me In about using kerf. Thanks Rich!
great video and I've picked up some really good tips from you but now I've got one for you that you might like. A small jewelers hammer would be perfect for this It has two rubber sides, a clear rubber side and a black rubber side. One side being harder material than the other. It actually would be perfect for this and it is what I use because I figure if it's gentle enough to use on gold then it's probably idea for acrylic. Thanks again for the videos.....great work on the kerf.
I have developed an extensive settings library for the LaserMATIC 10. You can get the file at engraveandcutfiles.com. The settings are excellent baseline settings for any 10W diode laser.
Great video - Thank you. I know 2 large car clubs that restore classic-vehicles to new and custom condition. This would be a great "custom" plate they could install on front of their vehicles when showing. Unfortunately in Oregon you "MUST" have DMV licence plates front and rear when driving on roadways. Oregon State Police like pulling over "some" folks with only rear plates and enforcing this code violation. I might try also, modifying a frame only. - Great Job Rich
Nice video, thanks. Personally I would use what we woodworkers employ to tap pieces in place: flat wooden block. This way nothing gets broken or even dinged, and everything is level.
Please show how the wood goes after its finished and I have done the wood name plates on garden beds at my Community Centre, but had problems with the finish fading and pealing even after three coats. So what are you using to coat them?
Very informative, as always. A soft piece of wood would have helped push the letters into place. The measuring icon would have been helpful setting up the plate. It doesn't seem to work very well for me (or I don't know how to use it). You could do a video on how to use this option. OBTW I purchased a Roly 10 wat and Lightburn based on your suggestion. Both are great and loving using them. Thanks!
Only friction fit on a vehicle driving on Louisiana roads!? I’d still use some Weld-On 4 in the seams from the back as to not cause any blemishes on the front. Otherwise solid concept and execution
Hi Louisiana, I didn't understand about actually which Font you used. I looked at the beginning and saw LightBurn showing the Font "Copperplate Gothic Bold" but at the time of cutting, another Font model appears; how is that? Thanks
Where do you get your acrylic? Also, I would think that after you have snapped the pieces in place, you could use some wide packing tape and cover the letters. That way, when you peel off the black layer, the yellow layer will come with it!
Anyone know how the centre horizontal and vertical guides were created, its one thing i wish LB would add is guides you drag from the left top rulers onto the sheet like other design software
You can use whatever you like Luis! I like my toy hammer so I can hear the sound change. Most folks just cover the piece with a scrap piece of wood or use a wooden mallet.
@The Louisiana Hobby Guy l tried that many time. Lightburn works and I'm learning a lot from you. I thought with the upgrade that might help that problem. But no it did not. I really do appreciate your video's. Thank you
*WARNING* _Not all states allow vanity plates!_ Please check with the motor vehicle department before doing this project to make sure it's legal! Use at your own risk!
Putting a wood block over the material and hitting the block will apply more even pressure and have less chance to break a piece. Or use a rubber mallet

Holly cow...for Me too.
another good one. every time a watch one of your videos, I learn and come away with more useful tips. thanks again.
Great to hear John!
You are a star as always Rich... thank you and enjoy the vacation.
Thanks so much Ashley!
Awesome video again! Love the simplicity of it. Now to find acrylic where you don't have to take out a 2nd mortgage LOL
I use cmsacrylics.com/ a lot Mike.
Merci!
Thanks so much for the support! 👍

I have 3 wood hammers, but I like the precision of my toy hammer Barry.
Video?
The result is impressive.
Thanks for showing how you made it, step by step.
The laser is really nice too. Hope they will ship to EU some day.
I hope so too! In the meanwhile, you can email leo@rolyautomation.com and he can get you pricing on a special order, direct from the factory.

Kicked on YT this am and saw you had a new vid and thought it's going to be a good day! Thanks.
Thanks Todd! Have a great weekend!
As always, a great video. Your choice of items to make are useful and they include much knowledge in the making.

very good video Rich i truely enjoyed it and learned something as usual from your videos. Thanks

Thanks for watching Bob! I am doing a wooden one myself.
The color combination looks very good Rich! Great work.
Thanks Jürgen!
Rich you can use spar varnish for a durable clear non fading finish which is used on boats to seal the wood. Thanks for the great videos!
I haven't tried it, but I guess you could. I just polish it with NOVUS #1 acrylic polish.
Great job perfect colour choice love the friction fit 👌
Me too David! Just ran it through the first car wash! It was covered in bugs from the drive to Florida.
Cant wait to try it out
Awesome Toby! I love mine!

I see lots of folks with front lic plates that attach these to the bottom two screws below the state plate Brian.
Brilliant
Thank you so much DL! I really appreciate it! 👍
Such an awesome idea.
Thanks!
Great video as always. I love the contrast. My choice preference is black and blue, but a diode laser will not cut blue...I'm pretty certain.
I can cut any color on the Roly, except white Jeffrey, however, they have to be solid colors and you have to run multiple passes on some.
love it!
Thanks Patrick!

@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I know. That's why I wanted to share. Glad you liked it!
What a wonderful idea, but I have my doubts whether that would also be allowed here in Belgium
I don't know Luc.
I saw your video showing the Creality Falcon2, what about this machine? When will you release a full review video?😍
As soon as I finish the testing.
creo que si calentara la base un poco entrarian mejor las letras
Mine fit perfectly. I prefer a snug fit with no glue Jose.
Please show how the wood goes after its finished and I have done the wood name plates on garden beds at my Community Centre, but had problems with the finish fading and pealing even after three coats. So what are you using to coat them?
I use Rustoleum triple coat glaze.
Any video instruction on how to use Laser GRBL to cut wood???
No, I only use Lightburn Charles. The principals are the same.
great video :) But how to cut transparent 3mm acrylic with 10w Ortur?
You don't.

Would the kerf be the same using a 50w CO2? Or would you need to do your own testing? Thanks
Every laser needs its own testing David.
Rich, what thickness acrylic do you use for these license plates. Thank you
3mm Steve.
With the acrylic being prone to getting scratched would it be advisable to spray the finished product with a poly sealer of some kind?
I have 3-year-old license plates that still look new with nothing on them, but you can if you want to.
can you point me where you get your acrylic?
cmsacrylics.com/
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you sir. I will try to duplicate some of your awesome work. How many sheets will it take to get here haha.
It's oddly satisfying watching the letters go in 🤨
I know Teresa, it's like pealing the plastic off a new toy! If it were a job, I would be happy doing it! 🤪
Could you give us tips on masking tape, painting and diode? I find it hard to do paint fill with wood.
Try posting on my free forums. lahobbyguy.com/bb
Hi Louisiana, I didn't understand about actually which Font you used. I looked at the beginning and saw LightBurn showing the Font "Copperplate Gothic Bold" but at the time of cutting, another Font model appears; how is that? Thanks
Two different computers? You can use whatever font you like.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Sorry, your answer does not satisfy me. It's so simple to say which Font is used, the one shown when cutting!
The font I used in the other shop is called Stencil. Not as simple to remember at my age when I'm not in the shop.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Oh! Thank you very much friend!

cmsacrylics.com I usually use Gorilla tape to weed acrylic Alan; thanks!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I ordered some acrylic from them and my diode laser wouldn’t cut it. Is their a specific type of acrylic I should look for??
Where did you source your acrylic sheets?
cmsacrylics.com/
Rich can you tell us what colors of cast acrylic cuts well with a 10 watt diode laser? I am impressed with you supplier. 😁🛫
where can i find the file for your new easle/ plate holder
I don't think it's posted anywhere Verne. I'll post it up to the forum when I get time.

Edit --> Settings --> Show work area center cross
I would use a wood hammer with the rubber end.
You can use whatever you like Luis! I like my toy hammer so I can hear the sound change. Most folks just cover the piece with a scrap piece of wood or use a wooden mallet.
Can you tell me why isn't my color bar not coming up in lightburn??
No Karen, but if you click, Window --> Reset to default layout, that should help.
@The Louisiana Hobby Guy l tried that many time. Lightburn works and I'm learning a lot from you. I thought with the upgrade that might help that problem. But no it did not. I really do appreciate your video's. Thank you
It may be a laptop or a small screen. Try clicking on the full screen icon in the top right corner of the screen.
How thick was the plastic?
3mm Craig.
Please can You tell us exactly which acrylic you use. the link is not enough ,sorry. Thanks for Info.
I only use cast acrylic on the laser Reinhard.
Holy crap! I don’t have to order a custom plate! …. I can just make it.
Yes you can!!
Neat but we are required to have both front and back plates in IL
Lots of states do Jim! I see a lot of folks attach personalized plates to the bottom screws on the front plate.
Use a pencil to mark the top paper of the yellow, then you know whats the top. No need to be so careful of flipping letters then.
Lots of pieces to mark though. They were all cut text.
*WARNING* _Not all states allow vanity plates!_ Please check with the motor vehicle department before doing this project to make sure it's legal! Use at your own risk!
