Haven't watched the whole video yet, but I just gotta say: Dredge was such a fantastic title and I am happy to see it mentioned here. It was the perfect combination of a charming and satisfying fishing game trapped within a Lovecraftian nightmare. Cheers!
All I can say is I'm incredibly jealous you got through all of these while also producing such high quality videos! I feel like since I started working on the channel I've slowed right down in playing games outside of it. My resolution for next year is going to be to try and make sure I keep up with what's coming out a little better - starting with some of these! I really need to get around to Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate, they look right up my street
I came from a tough background. Many years later I became educated. That led to me becoming diagnosed autistic - later several other things and unpacking a lot about the world and all the stuff that'd happened to me. I share this because it's hard to find safe places now and you're a wonderfully safe place. Thanks for 2023 Monty. See you next year.
I'm 11 months late nearly on the dot but let me just say, I am so happy you *mentioned* Slay The Princess. You gave no spoilers, basically no footage, and didn't really even allude to what it was about and I'm so happy you did. When I first saw this video, I wrote the game off cause it was on PC (I play PS5) but when Markipliers playthrough came out and then The Pristine Cut as well, I knew what I was going to be doing. Now having gotten a few endings and experienced a decent bit of the story I am happy to have you recommend it. If not, I would have missed this gem of a game.
The Dark Urge story in Baldur's Gate 3 is so incredible that I honestly have difficulty imagining going through BG3 as a purely custom Tav, despite having done so along with my Dark Urge playthrough
@@Argo.nauticawhen the game was going to release everyone was just talking about the evil side of it and my play through (which I am still playing lol) I went as a good dark urge and is fun as hell, there is many tempting moments and options.
Thank you for introducing me to Remedy this year, played Control and Alan Wake after checking out their Lore Dumps and completely fell in love with them. Can't wait for those Christmas funds to come in for Alan Wake 2. Just gotta do my best to avoid spoilers till then.
I picked up Signalis this year after seeing it in your 2022 wrapup and am really looking forward to trying out Kill the Princess and Dredge. Keep up the great work Monty and thanks for all the videos 🎉
Lies of P is definitely one of the stand outs of the year for me, having played quite a few things (though not as much as you). Everything just clicked, congratulations to Neowiz
Monty, if you’ve got it in you I’d love to see your critique of BG3. For me, it had simultaneously the highest highs (combat mechanics, organic storytelling from that combat, and when the dialogue matched what we wanted to do), and the lowest lows (when my buddy and I had to replay 6 hours because we thought a chaotic good action in the grove wouldn’t lock out Karlach, and a whole bunch of choices where there was really only one developer-desired path despite seemingly many choices). Always enjoy your take, and great to hear you talk about another 14 games!
Multiplayer got some issues in it. But me and my body loves laughing at them when it happens. Alot of characters dying then acting like nothing happened soon as the cut scene ended.
Alan wake 2 along with Soma and Disco elysium (and a few others in sure im forgetting!) are games that have writing so good that they are not just good writing for the standard's of games but storytelling in general.
You are saying it lime video games have inferior writing in general. Although not every game prioritizes the narative, I dont think that games that DO prioritize it are inferior to any movie or book. Red dead 2 is better than most movies out there as an example
Glad to see more people talking about Slay the Princess. Very fascinating game. The voice acting for the princess is... questionable at times depending on what emotion she's attempting to convey, but by and large the game is extremely enjoyable.
I'd love a similar vid that quickly covers the 27 games you played this year not in this video, although I know that's probably a fair bit of work. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and well done on everything you've achieved this year!
Thanks for a wonderful year, Monty and Co! I was just rewatching the Alan Wake lore dump today lol. Can't wait for all the awesome stuff next year. Thank you for all you do. We enjoy you! Have a happy holiday with the Missus and the boys! 💜
No Tears is wild 😭😭😭😭 TotK and Jedi Survivor my games of the year. I know Tears didn’t click for a lot of people, but it is not just probably the best Zelda, it is one of the best things I’ve ever played

Cheers to a wild year Monty! You, the Noobus, Neil, and Chase have put an insane amount of work in, and I’m thrilled to have been able to be here to see it! Slay the Princess and BG3 have been holding me like a vice these past few months. If you like StP, please try Scarlet Hollow - it's absolutely brilliant

Chants of Sennaar and Alan Wake 2 are high up my wish list… and now this list has made me even more stoked to play them. See you in the new year!
I agree with most of your choices, with the only exceptions are the games sitting in my backlog, waiting to be played. For me, Hi-Fi Rush is my GOTY, Lies of P is a close second, and the rest I’m going to list are in no particular order. Shadow Gambit, Dead Space, Resident Evil 4, Spider-Man 2, Oxenfree 2, Street Fighter 6. I feel like I’m forgetting something, but that would mean it didn’t stick with me. And I purchased, and have yet to play Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, Starfield, and Alan Wake 2.
I'm hovering between Alan Wake II and Spidey 2 as my game of the year. Super hard to choose, but I loved every second of both games. Runner ups - Dredge, Tears of the Kingdom, Jedi: Survivor, Metroid Prime Remaster, Dead Space Remake and Resi 4 Remake. Lots of good VR stuff as well (Synapse, Resi Village, Saints and Sinners Retribution etc.).
Great list and content +sub! So happy to see cocoon here. It was fantastic with the right level of difficulty. Had a blast finishing and reviewing it.😊
My objection against the star wars game was the vast amount of jumping that was needed in one place. Im getting older so I would like more save places in order to finish rhe game 😂
I cannot explain how much i love Alan Wake 2! I can't wait for the DLC's to come out! I've already bought them. People need to support these devs so they can make as many projects as they want because no one has done what they have, to the level & quality & rawness that they were willing to do here. They pulled no punches, they went all out, not afraid to show the gruesome and real sides of true crime. The nature and environments feel real you get lost into them. I live in the PNW and i legit feel like I'm hiking in areas I've been to. It's unbelievable how amazing it is! It's more than i could have ever dreamed of when i tried to consider a Alan Wake 2. These devs are SO TALENTED! *I wish they would make an extra game mode that would let you mess with & throw around objects like u can in control. I really hope they keep adding things to give this a ton of replayability. It has so much potential to build upon. I would be happy if they kept coming out with additional stuff for this amazing game. Imagine if im a DLC, they leaned more into finding crime scenes, forensic evidence exploration & true crime Noire vibes. They really can do so much with the foundation of this well made game
