Imagine if...
Episode 9 was called "The Rise of Palpatine"
So in The Last Jedi, they could've revealed that Palpatine returned, but as a dark side spirit risen from the dead by Kylo Ren.
Kylo Ren would bring back Palpatine because he needs a new master, a better master. Instead of them against each other, Palptine agrees to train whatever he has left into Kylo Ren so the Sith could live on... as Darth Ren.
Darth Ren would be tasked to capture Rey again. However, this time he must bring her fully to the dark side. Rey is strong in the force, too strong and Ren knew this ever since his battle with her on Starkiller Base. No force user could have such power unless she was an offspring of someone as powerful. The old Palpatine. When Palpatine was younger while being a senator for Naboo, he had children, however, never made them public to the republic or the Jedi. This was so he wouldn't be revealed to be Force Sensitive.
(Blah Blah Blah, we don't care about Rey's Friends...)
Ray would blow up the ship Chewy was in, and kill him. Rey and her friends would escape Ren, meanwhile, Rey is feeling super guilty that she killed her friend Chewbacca... However across the galaxy... Leia feels Rey's pain, she lost everyone in her life... Her Husband, her Brother, her Son, and now her Friend. She cannot handle this and has a heart attack.
(FYI, Carrie Fisher also passed due to a heart attack, and just wanted to add that, may she rest in peace. Back to the story.)
As Leia falls, R2D2 alerts the others to help her and they put her on life support. Rey and Ren both sense Leia's disturbance in the force.
They fight again however Rey wins the battle by cutting off Death Ren's hands.
(No Force Healing)
By this point in the story they already knew about Palpatine.
Rey would kill Ren right then and there, however, Luke and Anakin's force ghost appear. They tell Rey that Ren is not her main enemy and she shouldn't kill an unarmed man... even if he's a Sith. Luke helps her find Palptine while Anakin talks to the fallen Sith.
He tells him that Palptine is only using him for his powers and that he would use this dark side to fully come back. He doesn't care for him and only cares about himself, however, Ren can turn back to the light. Anakin told him that even if those who are on the darkest path can still escape, but only if they allow themselves to let go of everything they desire in power, and out of anyone, he's the one who truly understands.
Darth Ren fell, but Ben Solo rosed.
However, as she felt her son returned... Leia became one with the living force as she is now at peace.
Meanwhile, Rey is confronting Palpatine, she wants to strike him down. However, doing so will only lead her down the dark path.
After their fight, Rey is about to die but Ben comes in to save her. The two offsprings of two of the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Rey realized that if she could control her hate, she could use his powers against him. Ben is using Light while Rey is using Dark. They both bring their powers together and end Palpatine.
Killing the Phantom Menace out of the existence of the force forever. He could never somehow return.
Rey & Ben both would survive, creating a new Jedi Order, and teaching balance to the force. Not Jedi or Sith but as guardians of the living force and to keep peace and justice in the galaxy.
Ben Solo, the Light within Darkness holds Luke & Leia's sabers, both are old.
And Rey Palpatine, the Dark within Light. Holds Anakin's saber, the same saber that saved and killed millions, she would remain as Palpatine because she knows that her late family besides Sheeve would've wanted it. Palpatine killed the Jedi, and Palpatine will bring them back.
As for Chewy, it would be revealed that he two was force sensitive as he stands there with Luke & Leia, and Anakin... as they watch Rey bring balance, not to the force, but to the galaxy.
And her friends, idk, who cares? Good guys always win so they won. Go cry about it.
