Just go as low carb as you can and start fasting 12/15 hours a day. We are doing this now with my uncle who has extreme type 2 and hypertension. After a few weeks his fasting sugar this morning was 86, on top of that we removed one of his doses of metformin last night. His fasting is usually around 160. It is 100% up to what you are eating and fasting. The meds only hide the sugar and just keep piling on more problems. His blood pressure is now in the 120's/70's, was usually 170-180/90's. He was also starting into early dementia that is now improving. His drivers license was removed a month ago and I am very hopeful he can get it back.

Is it possible to have insulin resistance without fitting the profile? I am six feet tall and weigh 143 ;lbs., triglycerides are 40, HDL is 62, total cholesterol is 137 and A1C is 5.6 . I have a history of pre-diabetes and developed neuropathy in the past year. It seemed to improve with efforts to reduce my glucose level. I have been treated like a hypochondriac by our health care system for more than 35 years.

Genetics is a big part of the story. Some people will develop certain conditions eventually no matter what they do unfortunately. Are you considered to be overweight currently? Whether you listen to the low fat high carb people or the low carb high fat people you still have to limit your total caloric intake if you want to slim down and stay there forever. The challenge is for many their body wants more to eat than it really needs. You really need knowledge and discipline to succeed with weight management. There are doctors who have plenty of knowledge yet they are overweight too! Thee end. Good luck
