Omega, hands down. You get a model that has actually done something, has variety, is proven. Compared to a watch that failed - professionally and when originally sold - and is now only famous because of a future philanthropic ranch dressing salesman and the name on the tin.
@@woozertoo oh I understand, actor, driver, philanthropist, and probably many more things. It is the fact that it took a celebrity to make this Rolex popular and in high demand.
When I got into watches several years ago I wanted nothing more then a Kermit, after discovering this channel and learning how Rolex treats their customers, I am planning on buying a Hesalite Speedy for my upcoming 40th Birthday this year and couldn’t be happier.
Hi! We have a very similar situation. I've also loved the Submariner with green bezel since I've been a young lad. Years of learning about watches and history and ALSO the Rolex games I've lost my appeal for Rolex. They are wonderful time pieces with great history but the games and fan boys who don't actually like or know anything about watches has turned me off. Like you, I'll be turning 40 and wanted to buy something special, I think it's going to be the speedy also. Did you pick it up?
Rolex as a brand may be the greatest that the watch industry has to offer. Saying "X is the Rolex of Y" (as an example "Ferrari is the Rolex of Sportcars") and having everyone understand what you mean is proof of the street cred... BUT NO WATCH CAN OUTRANK THE SPEED MASTER, NOBODY CAN, NOBODY IS CLOSE!
Speedmaster is the real tool watch. It looks the business. It looks like it’s made for a job. Rolex, while beautiful, is jewelry. It looks like it belongs in a vault, or maybe with a fancy suit to a wedding. The Speedy can be worn to the same wedding, if not as elegant as the Daytona, but it would also be at home as a daily driver. I couldn’t wear the Daytona to anything other than some really fancy occasions. I can wear the Speedy every day to work and enjoy it so much.
I wear my Daytona for the office. I wouldn't wear it as a daily beater, that's what my Sub was for. Now my GMTII is a much better daily wear. For the gun range, to camping, road trips (though I pack my 1911 .45 as well), I also include my Omega Planet Ocean as a daily beater. If I'm really anticipating some rough wear, I have Seiko Tuna Prospex MarineMaster.
Speedy all day long. Even if I won the lottery tomorrow I’d choose a Zenith El Primero before the Daytona. Hell I’d even have Breitling Navitimer over the Daytona! The only thing better on the Rolex is the bracelet. Otherwise it just as screams “everybody look at me and my wealth!” And I own a Rolex OP as well as a new co-axial Speedy so I’m not brand biased. The Speedy is understated, elegant, strap monster and famous for having achieved something real not for maybe having been worn by a famous actor!
Agreed! I no longer wear Rolex Bec it's become so bad. It's for posers nowadays Speedy is low key class and enthusiast watch. Always relevant never loud.
I have chosen the Speedmaster Haselite version. The legibility of the watch is amazing. It doesn't matter if it is 12:00h and direct sunlight... there is no glare. You are perfectly able to tell the time or use the stopwatch. Try this with the Daytona... your eyes will burn. The Speedmaster has is 1,5T resistance, which is an equivalent to a small MRI. Since I am working in a strong magnetic environment. That is important 😊 Nice video as usual 👌
Have owned both. I still have the Speedy Pro. The Daytona is too noticeable by thieves so you can’t wear them everywhere you want. Nobody really bothers you with the Speedy. Similarly, I can wear my Blancpain everyday and not worry about it cause no one knows what it is. Prefer watches like that.
OMEGA All the way. And if people were to know about Rolex, they will know that Rolex have never been an Innovator in the Chronograph field, and depended on third parties for its first Daytona offerings, and it was one of them that failed the NASA Qualification Testing. What I have my eyes on is in the Omega 3861 and the Seiko Tentagraph. The only thing Rolex is KING is Marketing.
My 1967 321 every day of the week. The Daytona is no match for me, I wouldnt wear a Daytona, except for a 1960s one without crown pusher screws. But that's me. Historically, the 321 is way above the Daytona.
Have both ...enjoy both equally but they are very different watches on the wrist. I personally like steel bezels ....my speedy is a 57 and not pro ...and I prefer the 116520 over the new ceramic . I do like the brushed bezel on the speedy 57 though. The shiny bezel on the Daytona is a bit too bling for a daily wearing but that's just me
I don’t think the Daytona is more famous than the Submariner 🤷♂️ It’s called the Cosmograph because that was the original chronograph name before being renamed. The Cosmograph (with Valjoux 72 manually movement) was the watch submitted to NASA in 1964 but it catastrophically failed the high temperature tests when the hands melted together & the watch became inoperable.
Yeah no contest in my opinion. Both have similar legit heritage/history, both quality companies, both considered (to varying degrees) luxury watches. Both Swiss. Then because it is a) available and b) cheaper, the Speedy is the better option, better value AND in my opinion the Speedmaster is better looking (as someone else said more understated, elegant and yes toolish). Yes the Rolex has better 'resale value' but I don't buy watches as 1) an investment or 2) to flip and sell. If resale is your main criteria in a watch (and you can find one) then by all means the Daytona is the better watch.
I would prefer a sapphire front and hesalite display back. I dont like my watches getting scratched up, hesalite is warmer to the touch and therefore better suited to being on your skin, and you can still see through it.
@@glostergloster6945 good point! Probably makes the most sense, given you can't scratch the caseback if it's against your wrist. Still, I like the domed crystal of the hesalite - it gives the dial some added depth that I think is more attractive to look at (albeit more scratchable) than the flat sapphire. That said, if Omega ever offered a *domed* sapphire crystal on the front, along with a see-through caseback for the movement, that might be the best of both worlds.
Both great watches, but to me Speedmaster all the way.❤❤❤ (I admit, I have them) Not just because of the nasa and the moon. Looks better, feels better on hand, looks great on every strap, bracelet, rope...chrono easier to use, and I like the design overall. Don't care about the value, I never sell anything I buy, it gets valuable to me, once I get it.
Honestly, I’m a Rolex fan, especially over most of the omega catalog, but the Daytona never interested me. However I also hate the constant moon this and moon that of the Speedmaster. But as a watch, here on earth, the speedy is fantastic! So it’s hands down (at 6:30 anyway) the winner for me!
I wish the steel back on the hesalite can easily be flipped open to see the movement! 😂 I still like the steel back, more like the original but I still want to see the movement.
The comparison should rather be Rolex Daytona vs Omega Speedmaster 321. MY choice is done, I sold my Daytona many years ago and went for the Speedmaster ;)
Watch enthusiasts prefer the moonwatch, Muggles the Daytona. If you can get Daytona from Ad fair enough, grey market price is higher than the sum of its parts. I'd rather the moonwatch, from Ad, with the nice discount, and opportunity to spend the difference on a second watch.
The Daytona is king! Better size, slimmer, ceramic bezel, much better water resistance, better brand status, better bracelet, better dial. The speedmaster has now a clear caseback which is the better
Having owned both, each has their high points and things they could do better. Winding a Speedmaster is an utter pain, even the hand-crankers, plus the sapphire sandwich makes for a needlessly beefy watch. On the plus side, there's wondrous variety of sizes, movements, colors, & materials. The Daytona is downright illegible in bright light due to lack of AR and not that great even under normal light, plus the availability makes seeking one on grey market akin to buying a new car. On the plus side, it's a very compact and comfortable watch to wear, has better water resistance, and is unquestionably seen as a status watch atm. Which one should you get? The one that makes you smile the most when you look at it.
Hot take but I don’t like the Daytona. Too busy and screw down pushers make the chrono more of a novelty than a tool. GMT is way more usable and better looking, and more youthful.
Omega has stated (and it's on their website) that the 50m WR really is 50m. It's not the weird arbitrary "50m means don't take it near water" that most companies do. I've swam/snorkeled and what have you with mine and I've never had an issue.
If I had to choose, definitely Speedmaster. But I'm not into chronographs, and can't see myself paying that much money for a watch with painted indices... Perhaps the white dial?
If I had only those two options probably Daytona, but if I had any option Tudor Black Bay Chrono for everyday wear. It's basically a chronograph dive watch, probably won't get mugged for it and good value per dollar.
I just want a Rolex to compare it to my Zenith or IWC. Is it better than those? The Zenith is not a COSC, but it is less than 2 sec/day accurate. The IWC with a 2892A is less than 3 SPD every time.
Not sure why Omega doesn't use one of their modem column wheel calibres for the Moonwatch, like the Calibre 321 has, rather than the 3861 that's arguably an older tech calibre.
Because it's simply not needed. Column Wheels and Cams: Surprising What Tech Can Learn From Horology is just one of many examples of the misconceptions regarding column vs cam lever chronographs.
Im blessed to have both. A stainless steel and gold Daytona with white face and gold subdials. And a classic stainless steel Speedmaster Pro with black face and Hesalite crystal. The Daytona was actually so slow selling in the 60s and 70s that dealers were giving steep discounts and even steeper discounts if you bought a gold date just or gold day date. Then in the 1980s, the yuppie trend started and Rolex gained traction along with single malt scotch and Gucci loafers. The Daytona got a lot of traction with Paul Newman's Datyona Panda. The all stainless Daytona is actually much less expensive than the gold and steel, but much more in demand, so all steel is never available. I bought the gold and steel, and although i wasn't crazy about two tone, it grew on me and it just looks elegant. So accurate and such finesse in the way the pushers and crown feels. When i was working as a prosecuting attorney, and took a case to jury trial, i would wear my best power suit, power tie, highly polished Allen Edmunds tassled loafers, and my gold and steel Daytona. It was my good luck charm.
Omega has a quiet dignity about it and its brand, its subtle and classy it doesn't need or want to brag about itself,, Rolex on the other hand, is brash, loud, crass and a bit chav, the M3 driving Oakley sunglasses on the head wearer, being loud in the Golf Club bar. If the two were musical instruments the Omega would be a Steinway Piano, Rolex would be dribbling whilst banging pots and pans with a wooden spoon...
The Rolex holidays in Dubai, and boy does everyone else know where it holidays. It screams "new money" and drives a pearl white Range Rover, aggressively tailgating on even the smallest country roads. It goes to the gym, but only to look at itself in a mirror and ogle at women.
I'm biased, as I type this comment with a 3861 hesalite on my wrist, but I do not understand the visual appeal of the Daytona. I'm not going to disparage anyone's tastes, but how this watch became an object of lust is beyond me.
How is this even a question? The Speedmaster of course - The original which the Daytona was copied from and then blinged up. I've never understood the obsession the Daytona receives. It's just so gaudy and screams 'LOOK AT WHAT I'M WEARING'. Surely the submariner is more widely known.
Speedy all day long especially older models. I do like some things about the new Speedy... But: - price is crazy (still good but double what I paid for my old Speedy) - I prefer it charcoal old dial - the busy mili seconds track actually makes dial look neater and less clutered on the 1861 - the new bracelet pulls hair... tried it on several times and it's really not comfortable for me - older watches were actually used by NASA so they'll be good enough for me
Speedmaster Racing Co-Axail, with white face. That's the one I bought & I love it. I did consider the moon watch but no one has ever been to the moon. I didn't want to wear a lie, so my decision was made.
Speedie sapphire sandwich without hesitation. I nearly ordered a Daytona in 1989 but wait list was two years, so bought a sea dweller 16660. Glad I did as it’s a fantastic timepiece and still looks great today. Daytona is far too ostentatiously obvious for a mugging when you wear everyday. Speedie is not so blatantly expensive to untrained eye.
I would buy the Omega for many reasons, but let me be the minority on the channel that says the Daytona is one of the most amazing-looking dials/bezels I've ever seen.
Speedmaster looks more of a tool watch while Daytona looks like a typical Rolex sports watch. I like the look of Daytona more. I do wish Omega makes an automatic version within the professional line. I think making the bezel more slanted would make it less like a tool watch.
I love the Daytona but way out of my "one luxury watch forever collection" price range. So I went for the Speedmaster Olympics 2020 Tokyo Green Sedna Gold. Which of course never happened in '20 due to Covid! I bought it in 2022, it cost me £5,280 plus 20% import tax £6,336. Here's the kicker, it was brand new boxed, still in wrapping, with Yen price tag attached. I love it!
Has it ever struck any of you guys that NASA chose the Speedmaster over the Daytona because they didn't want their astronauts to have to sit on the waitlist?
As Tom's slide into madness continues Andrew has now been drawn in. Brilliant lads! To the watches. Neither for me. In their own ways both Daytona and Speedy have been marketeered to death IMO. Me? I'd take a Hanhart chronograph, Pioneer or Racemaster. Wait, for Speedy money I'll take one each please!
Bad title, should have said Omega Speedmaster in 2024 vs Rolex Daytona in 2034 (just wondering is anybody on the origonal wait list still waiting) OK a bit piffy but hell why not, great video as ever love these videos with you two👌

For me:
Speedy > Daytona
however
Submariner > SMP
Ahhhhp yeah, it's an eazy one, SpeedMaster. The one thar maybe it's better the Speedy it's Zenith in this category
13:47 Precisely the reason why I went with the 3572.50, mullet all the way!
I'm biased, as I type this comment with a 3861 hesalite on my wrist, but I do not understand the visual appeal of the Daytona. I'm not going to disparage anyone's tastes, but how this watch became an object of lust is beyond me.
They are clearly different…for watch connaisseurs.
If price is not an issue, you’ll figure out that the demand leans more to the Daytona.
Rolex or omega Mmmm I think Christopher Ward belcanto titanium definitely Christopher Ward 12 titanium
you’re literally my comfort person i love you #amzwatch ! I'm saving up for my next watch.
I love how you set us up with a „Stanley Kubrick” joke in the beginning and it pays off pretty quickly… and then it pays off later again! ❤️
But:
- price is crazy (still good but double what I paid for my old Speedy)
- I prefer it charcoal old dial
- the busy mili seconds track actually makes dial look neater and less clutered on the 1861
- the new bracelet pulls hair... tried it on several times and it's really not comfortable for me
- older watches were actually used by NASA so they'll be good enough for me
“Bbq sauce retailer.” LMFAO ⚰️
Just want to ask Rolex, apart from minting money, what innovative things have you done?😂😂😂😂
It always amazes me how much beauty and precision are added to the parts of amzwatch's watch 99% of people will never see.
Good choices gentlemen, I’ll have one of each thanks.
I have an 8in wrist. That dainty girly looking Daytona is a no go for me.
Omega for sure unless you like playing stupid games that rolex likes to play but for me I dont like to play games so Omega all the way!
Watches are so delicate and intricately designed, so I have intense respect and admiration for amzwatch watch makers
I love it!
Cracking choice. Thats one of the best limited edition speedies ever made
Has it ever struck any of you guys that NASA chose the Speedmaster over the Daytona because they didn't want their astronauts to have to sit on the waitlist?
Yeah try harder 😂 Daytona was a flop then! Nobody wanted 1.
@@Mega-zi7ys ...it was a joke...
@@the.hamel.mammal7802 😂 sorry buddy 😂 👌✌️
Look, I'd get the 321 version of the Omega. You can even go white gold Speedy and still be way under the radar that a Daytona would trip.
The old format of videos was so much better. This is really just photos of watches and commentary
Always liked the design language of the Daytona. But hated all the associations with the watch. New white Speedmaster all the way.
Bad title, should have said Omega Speedmaster in 2024 vs Rolex Daytona in 2034 (just wondering is anybody on the origonal wait list still waiting) OK a bit piffy but hell why not, great video as ever love these videos with you two👌
My friend has been on the list since 2006! Is that a record?
@@verynormalman 😱Wow,that's staying power. Maybe a record, I'd love to put that out to the community. If it is, get hold of the guiness book of records and then send it off to Rolex, n shame the buggers.
@@Stricko72 It's not good is it. I liked your joke about reviewing the 2034 Daytona. Very funny! Thanks for making me laugh.
I dont know if it is Daytona, I would say Submariner that has more history and not only high price since Paul Newman hipe since it was not popular in the 70, 80s.
It doesn't matter, you'll have to wait years and maybe still not get a Daytona.. But while we're talking fantasy here I would take a Daytona if offered to me. Yeah, I like a speed master slightly better.
as a watch for me the daytona , but the speedmaster is still a legendary watch imo
I dont think these are watches to compare. The Speedy is a more of historical piece and the Daytona is a modern watch
When will they announce that Andrew has left for greater things outside of Watchfinder?
The two are magnificent ,but The user of The speedmaster is a fan of Car racing, as it is said in Brazil “raiz” fanatic while The Daytona user is more fãshionable and in Brazil it is said “Nutela” but bote watches are perfects
I have neither, but who wouldn’t get a Daytona if they could get either at retail?
One of your best videos. Absolutely hilarious!
Ok take the speedy. I don't like the daytona. It doesn't look good on my wrist. But the most popular watch in the world is the sub or a casio
There are many watches I originally considered ugly, boring, or messy: Omega Speedmaster, Casio G-Shock, and some more. I've grown to like them eventually.
That didn't happen with the Daytona.
If I had a dollar for every time the Speedy was a Watchfinder thumbnail, I could afford a Speedy :)
