RIP Joe Flaherty. You continue to bring heartfelt laughter.
ALWAYS Preferred THIS OVER SNL
Of course
The Leave it to Beaver sketch is one of the best that SCTV ever made.
too bad they didn't make more of them
Candy is EPIC as the Beav!
I've been carrying a torch for Catherine O'Hara since the beginning.... 45 years of unrequited love. It hurts, but at least she's always made me laugh.
She's a doll.
lol shes wonderful
yes so true She is a Beauty actually...:)
I guess I better get in line.
Get in line buddy, you think you're alone in that?
"Leave it to Beaver" we where VOMITING with laughter when this ran one dull day after High School...UIL Speech & Debate class...even our Teachers where just besides themselves laughing...wow holy crap GO SCTV!
This show was ahead of its time and the cast members and writers were always thinking outside the box. I miss it but thank goodness for youtube!
Candy as the adult Beav...it really works somehow 😂😂😂
Even you weren't a failure at that age!
Candy's nephew Donald as the belligerent child alcoholic.
'Weren't you killed in Vietnam Beaver?" lol, I think that was reference to the urban legend .
Canadian humor ,the best in the world .
Never heard of SCTV before. Pretty sure I've just stumbled upon a treasure trove of comedy :)
You have. I envy you.
That Catherine O Hara is so damn talented! I mean, not everybody can turn their head a full 360 degrees! Kudos, girl! You go!
She sure is somethin special
*damned
If only she ate her beets.
BEST. EPISODE. EVER! My sister and I loved the Leave It To Beaver sketch!
This is a great episode!!!
Guess you guys never saw the Emmy Award wining GODFATHER spoof!
THE GRAPES OF MUD
we raced home from High School to catch this bizarre crazy troop of Canadian Actors like a parallel universe in Canadian HELL vs SNL...so so much talent just amazing talent it NEVER stops WORKING all of them are BRILLIANT
"Omg Jimmy's got the dictionary"
"Yeah"
Excellent contribution Ramis lmfao
This comedy was golden....
Spot on mrs cleaver impression. Amazing.
Library Police was off the wall. Exorcising With Linda Blair was a scream. Earl's son was a hoot. The chicken filler was ahead of its time. The Leave It To Beaver spoof is classic comedy. The 2 ditzy housewives was golden. Kids On Booze was hilarious. That Bruce Lee spoof was the epitome of SCTV. An early appearance by Dr. Tongue. Family Detective was lame. Dialing For Dollars was amusing. In short, this was the Best Episode of Season 1.
I remember sctv,loved it ,I'm 69 ,great humor
Love this. Best comedians ever😊
"Sweet dreams my friend"
Me gran. loved this episode. Happy memories.
I know Harold Ramis was not on SCTV that long but I got to meet him. Sort of. He went on to Stripes and Ghostbusters, etc. Behind the scenes. But I had this bizarre relationship with a woman and her two adopted kids and they went to the #1 privileged school in Winnetka Illinois. Oh, so spoiled. They had 3-4 Xmas specials etc. On some night, there was the prez of Motorola, too busy in the hallway to see his kids show, etc. I sat down as they were going thru grade 1...when I sat and looked over, (There were 5 or 6 seats in between) I saw Harold. It was between shows and I felt like saying, "Hey, Harold, loved you in striped and SCTV!" but I just nodded and gave him the thumbs up and tilted my head towards the stage waiting for the next grades shop to come on until my Jessica's grades show came up. It was a moment. I mean, there was this guy who was so cool for being in SCTV etc. but he was just a dad there for his kids show, just like me. I met a few more celebs impromptu, but him and Richard Dent the Chicago Bears linebacker who got the MVP in that 1986 Superbowl, (Yes, the last one they one) were my favorites. Two guys who made it big who I was glad to see jut being two normal Joes.
Hysterical, I forgot how funny and advanced they were!
So this is where Seinfeld got the idea for library cop.
I was about to say the same thing!
Pure comedy gold !
whoever is in charge of casting deserves every award there is....not just the famous....even that kid LOL perfect.
Catherine O'Hara can officially do anything.
John Candy IS The Beaver!🦫
That EXORCIST spoof was LMFAO!
I live ALL THE SKITS… GENIUS
"Why'd ya kill Eddie?"
"Gee, Wally, he was a creep."
Brilliant humour!
Great show! Better then snl
10:00 - 10:10 I've replayed and laughed at this moment more times than I can admit.
That cracked me up! I love Joe Flaherty's drunken fall.
Exorcising with Reagan Blair, is just magnificent.
(though "give me a clear shot at him" in Library Police is real hard to follow!!!)
That kid was awesome.
Blind fists of the Furious Dragon had me waiting for Canadians to describe the fight sequence in the kindest fashion while being even sloppier 😂😂😂 "No, when I am pulling the fist away from your face eh, ya need position your feet pije so eh?"
I bet that Beaver sketch really slapped back in the day.
that moment when you realize Flaherty is the "jack ass" talking guy from happy gilmore omg.
:D i love this !!!! HAHAHAHHAHA the exorcist exercise tapes i want them all XD
Canadian Club on Wheat-A-Bix? Oh geeze.
Merry Christmas SCTV world, 2022! That's amazing that I never watched the juvenile's alcoholics skit and it is biographical to me, lol. It's a hangover miracle🥳 Seriously the martial arts film thing had me rolling!
The youngster playing Earl Cannonbert Jr. is Donald Cowper.
17:21 "...Shitfu, not a Chinese dish you'd wanna order."
I had no Idea Ohara was a Comedian in her Early Career.
This was the OriginalSaturday Night Live and In Living Color.
Ward and his whiskey.
Whisky and corn flakes...YUM!
Dr. Tongue grinned after Swami spat back at the cobras in the basket and said "Two can play at that game." Must have been an ad-lib by Swami or else someone was offscreen stuffing the ersatz cobra up the good Doctor's trouser leg.
Andrea Martin’s New England accent is strong here😊
Comedy gold 🥇
Library Police, based on the novella in Four Past Midnight by Stephen King.
My younger brother actually got me with the pull your fist trick. Fooled me into punching myself in the face. But I guess I deserved it .
Don’t worry Beaver you’re in Canada you only get 20 years
17:38 Dr. Tongue 😂
"That you're a screaming ------!" LMAO!

Donald Cowper - the nephew of series regular John Candy.
John Candy Alike Dan Aykroyd TV Show PSI Factor:Chronicles of the Paranormal Starting in Hosting
So I'm guessing this is early stuff. Was Dr Tongue already a character before Monster Chiller Horror Theater?
SCTV network was better than the CBC by far eh??
They were very funny. This wasn't their best.
Bad Karate Movies. Echoes of KENTUCKY FRIED MOVIE!
Sctv was great--but truly let down by consistently bad timing on the laugh track.
Leave it to Beaver sketch was one of the best from the first season. But that family detective bit was totally pointless and unfunny. I wonder what they were going for with that
Eh, it's a parody of board game commercials.
"Dollar Bill" and "Magnifying Glass" are not included, apparently. $15.95, in 1977, for Two used Mugs and a Cardboard Box. I "Detect" a Bargain.
There's nothing to the game. So many board game tv ads would make games look ultra exciting...then you'd buy it and play it, and some were really boring. So basically, for $15.95 (way more expensive than games were back in the 70s), you get a box containing only a dollar bill and a super-cheap toy magnifying glass. I love what ihavefallen said about the money and magnifying glass not being included! 😂
This would never pass the woke people of today.....too bad some of the best comedy ever
A lot of stuff wouldn't...and that includes the older seasons of SNL. I say, don't listen to them and enjoy it. Life is too short to walk on eggshells.
Yes people used to be so edgy and strong. Now we have South Park, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and all these other shows the elderly are trying to ban
@@michaelb9537 South Park is edgy.
I'm woke and I loved it.
@@michaelb9537 That's not true. No one is trying to ban anything.
I have to wonder if this particular SCTV News sketch was a little dig at the pairing of Bill Burns with his daughter, Patti Burns, on the noon news at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. They made plenty of headlines when she first joined him at the midday anchor desk in 1976 (after his prior co-anchor in that time slot, Marie Torre, left KDKA to do TV work in New York), and some wags branded them (not too kindly) as "Patti and Daddy," but the pairing ultimately made them institutions in Pittsburgh (and, eventually, she became a TV news legend in her own right and on her own merits, lasting eight more years at "KD" after her "old man" retired). No "budding media journalist" she, Ms. Burns had the same exacting journalistic standards as her dad who'd been a constant presence on Pittsburgh TV since 1953 (no doubt Joe Flaherty would've been familiar with him).
Where's Count Floyd?
