Seethakaathi is an upcoming Tamil language Drama film written and directed by Balaji Tharaneetharan, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. The film began production in April 2017. The film marks as Vijay Sethupathi's 25th Film in leading roles.
Following the success of Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012), director Balaji Tharaneetharan began working on his next project titled Seethakaathi. In an interview during January 2014, Balaji revealed that the film would be based on artists and would not be related to the tale of the philanthropist of the same name.] After postponing work on the film to complete the romantic comedy Oru Pakka Kathai (2017), Balaji revived Seethakaathi in April 2017 and announced that Vijay Sethupathi would portray the leading role.Produced by Sudhan Sundaram, Umesh, Jayaram and Arun Vaidyanathan of Passion Studios who earlier produces Nibunan, the film would mark the actor's 25th film. After roping in Remya Nambeesan and Gayathrie, now the team has signed veteran director J.Mahendran whose recent work was Vijay's Theri (2016).
It was later announced that the film's release that are scheduled to release on 16 November 2018 is postponed to a later date, following TFPC commitee and actor Udhaya's request The makers finally confirms that the film will be released on 20th December.

Following a stint as an accountant, Sethupathi began considering an acting career. He started his film career working as a background actor, playing minor supporting roles for over five years, before playing his first lead role in Seenu Ramasamy's Thenmerku Paruvakaatru (2010). He went on to play the villain role in Sundarapandian (2012), and got his breakout roles with the films Pizza (2012) and Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (2012).[5] He continued to star in successful films such as Soodhu Kavvum (2013), Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara (2013), Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (2014), Naanum Rowdy Dhaan (2015), Sethupathi, Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum (2016), Dharma Durai (2016),Iraivi ' ' Kavan (2017), Vikram Vedha (2017), Karuppan (2017), Chekka Chivantha Vaanam (2018), Junga (2018), and 96 (2018). Upcoming projects are Seethakaathi , SuperDeluxe , Petta etc.
