Rick, can you do one for bunkers that don't have the soft sand? There quite a lot of courses that have a thin layer of sand and much more packed in sand/dirt underneath. Also, what's the plan with wet sand?
Great video... How about Bunkers with the ball in a terrible position, for example: the ball being at the lip of the bunker (front or back), downward slope of the bunker, hard packed sand versus soft sand, and buried shots. Looking to break 80... Thanks again, love the videos and great advice.
I'd love to try this at my local course, avoiding the parts of the bunker where the sand is either welded together or there's about 2mm of it because it hasn't been replaced since WW1.
How about some tips on how to deal with different kinds of sand, e.g.'s wet, packed, thin. Around here the sand is anything but good and it is also inconsistent. Some courses cheap out and use beach sand which as we know turns into a version of concrete when wet. Some help there would be appreciated.
@@twm4259 Honestly I think its ridiculous to expect to play as it lies when in a lot of cases, the rules of golf make little sense when you apply them at courses that don't have professional quality grounds-keeping. Why should I damage my club because my ball landed in a bunker that's filled with small pieces of gravel laid over what appears to be tamped down dirt? I think raking and dropping should be allowed on courses of poor quality. A lot of courses that don't water their fairways have a rule that you can move your ball to a patch of grass if it lands on dirt.
@@SilentMott Local rules are allowable but if there is no rule allowing repair of a sand trap before playing your shot AND you intend to post your score for the purpose of handicap then the rules are the rules - as ridiculous as they sometimes are.

Been watching you for a while and love your tips. Just finished up a week long golf trip and using tips I’ve seen before had only one bunker shot that didn’t turn out well. That was a fairway bunker and tried for the green with a 4 iron. Caught the lip. Fortunately the ball had enough momentum I did escape the bunker. All my green side bunker shots were great as I put the ball close enough I one putted. Thanks for the tips.
Just watched your blog of royal Liverpool with Carter and finch, from the shots you played out of the bunkers there I think this is well worth the watch
Feedback Rick - Can you go through the way the basic bunker swing is different? Less shoulder turn and arm, more wrist etc. That's something I struggle with and is a fundamental part of bunker play that makes it different from iron shots I gather.
This is almost a year late, but I used these tips and I got out of 2 bunkers yesterday. One had the ball 8 inches above my feet, and I still got out effortlessly. Thanks Rick!

I would consider myself a beginner+ bunker player. Out 6 out of 10 times. The biggest problem bunker shot for me is when the sand is wet and packed. The bounce gets me sometimes, and I don't get into the sand deep enough. So the ball comes out low and across the green. Any tips would be great.
