  • Here is my secret tip teaching you how to hit bunker shots. This really is the most simple tip you will ever do and it allows anyone to get the ball out of the bunker instantly.
    Pick Up Free Samples of The Body Swing here: bodyswing.com/...
    For years golfers have tried everything to get the ball out of the bunker. The problem is one of the things they are trying to do is holding them back. A long time ago I figured out this one thing and stopped telling people to do it. Once I did I could literally get people hitting perfect bunkers shots instantly.
    I know you've heard it all and probably tried it all. Well, you certainly haven't tried this. Once you do you will get every ball out the bunker which will lower your scores.

    I have been awful from the sand for my entire life. I've watched this video a handful of times recently, and it seems so simple. This past weekend, was playing in a scramble and we found ourselves in a greenside bunker. I went through these steps in my head, and hit the absolute best bunker shot I've ever hit. Thank you so much Paul!!!

      That's great. Great feeling when you get them out. Stay focused and keep working on it as I suggest then you will get them all out.

    There are 21 Balls in the golf ball tube, today I only hit 42 but had a 100% result, out of the bunker and all on the green, I wish I could teleport myself to Vegas to show you how I have absolutely mega progressed in just 2wks, I've literally gone from massive frustration to total state of euphoric .... just dig those feet in and hit the golf ball and amaze yourselves!! And the best thing was today, I had a mini crowd of lets say 3 or 4 other golfers who came over to the bunker to watch ...what a feeling that was.

    watched yesterday, couldn't wait to get to the range today to test it out, from 40 balls I thinned 3, and that's because I didn't have the club face open, i've been sooo frustrated with bunker practice from last year and this year as I was thinning and shanking every single ball out of Bunker, and I now I know the reason why, I was twisting the clubface to an open positon, I WAS not letting go of the club to create an open face, today I did exactly what paul said AND low and behold 37 out of 40 balls came out of that bunker like they should, I made the mark in the sand, full body turn and hit the ball (or the sand) with the same swing, perfect, i'm a happy man again :-) simple really.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very good. Bunker shots are so easy yet everyone is trying to make it too complicated. If I taught you a different swing for bunker shots you would have to learn 2 swings. You don't have time to learn 1 swing never mind 2. Now you see you can do it with ease keep at it. Get every ball consistently on the green first. Once you can do that ... start going for the pin. Great job!

    Great video, i play with so many seniors that fear bunkers,most are trying some advanced tour pro techniques and failing! pros are trying to get it close with subtley and skill and different distances even taking off power.Most golfers just need a gettit outer!, a standard repeatable distance for them and 1 putt or 2 putt depending where the pin is.PWs technique is the best simple.
    Remember sand will stop a speeding bullet (arms only) but not a bulldozer (body)

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know exactly what you mean. My technique is super simple and works withing minutes. Once you can get every ball out then go for the pin. Getting the ball out of the bunkers takes pressure off of your long game so it is vital that you learn how to do it. It doesn't get easier than this.

  • @user-do7gk4vo3h

    I'm a 12 handicap but have had tons of trouble getting out of bunkers for the past 40 years. Totally inconsistent and lacking confidence. I watched your video (a couple of times) yesterday and went out to play today. I was in four bunkers during the round . . . I hit four very nice shots out of them! One of them on a par 5 even set up a birdie sandie!!!! Your method is simple and, because of that, inspires confidence in the swing. I cannot thank you enough!

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! That's great. Bunkers are so simple if you follow this. As I said in the tip I didn't always teach this. Once I switched I could get anyone out in minutes. I literally had a guy come here from New York just for a bunker lesson. He had taken 10 in a past and couldn't get it out. Literally 10 minutes was all it took. Perfect shot after perfect shot. He said I was the only one who didn't say to hit a spot 3" behind the ball. This shows you that hitting is the problem. Stop that and do it as I show in the tip and you can get them out every time. Keep up the good work.

    I can't believe it. I watched this video 2 nights ago, and tried it out on the course today using a 58 degree sand wedge. I was 20ft from the hole coming out of a deep bunker. It was the shot of the day for me. It stopped 6 inches from the pin. I'm sold. Thanks for the only bunker method I'll use from now on !!

    This really works. I tried it the other day during a round where I hit a few practice shots out of the bunkers. I even forgot to grip the end of the club on one and it still worked. "Regular swing" and don't worry about hitting behind the ball are really the keys here. Was taking a perfect amount of sand and not my typical 5 inch deep sand crater.

    I started playing golf in 1997. " Lost my shoe in the sand," as they say.. Had 1 hole in one from the bunker after hitting 100 's of buckets of balls. It is still my best memories, today. Took a few Pro guys lessons, each had different techniques and prices, yet today I am still looking for the "sand recipes". I will definitely try your tip next time I play, actually, I can't wait to try it out. Thanks for sharing.

    Paul i have watched all your full swing videos and am committed to it with great results...never struck the ball better and i understand it......everything you say about bunker play what has been taught...ive done...now when ive watched bunker play by pros the last 10 years its all changed....no open stance...square stance...wide open club face...and swing down the line...and pros get it withon 1 foot or theyve failed....all this has screwed up my bunker play ...to the point that im a mess in the bunkers and always make sure no one is opposite me..because i might take their head off and or chunk it so hitting it again.....this bunker lesson is the only thing ive tried of yours and failed....ive done what you say to the tee....and i pick the ball with sand or lob wedge and its 70 yards over the green...its not thinned or skulled.....i am an excellent fairway bunker player....i use body swing same swing in those....i play it square...dont dig in feet...choke up 1/2 inch and play ball back from middle 1 ball length...and i swing just like you say...and i pick it..and am successful....but in greenside bunker i do the same thing...and yes i am digging my feet in...and i am not choking up...ball is 1 ball forward from middle...and i swing like from fairway....club open stance open....swing along stance line...but i just pick the ball everytime...its like my mind sees that ball and whatever adjustments i have made it still says to hit the ball first......and so i do....i am looking at the ball like i do out of sand just like body swing method....so i hit the ball even when im dug in....old methods of trying to hit 2-3inches behind ball in sand...usually did same thing...skulled into the ball and just nailed....everything ive done with drills for full swing...irons/drivers has been a glowing success...and im religious on drills at home and ive got this relaxed no arms swing no urge to hit .....im loose...im turning....it works in fairway bunkers....fairways....drives.....but in greenside bunkers....im a failure...its almost to the point where im willing to take a 2 shot penalty to place it out of the sand....honestly i would be better off....im triggered to hit the ball...no matter what the adjustments.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Easy, if you are doing what I say to do and still hitting the ball you are either lifting up or buckling your arms. You would lift if you are trying to see it before you've done it. So delay the reaction to watch it. Next, you need to loosen the arms. Start with short bunker shots. 10-20 yards. If you were hitting it that hard there is no way you would put enough into it to hit it 70 yards. The club isn't even swinging fast enough to hit it that long. Maybe the first goal is just get it out. Don't even try for the green. Super loose and just turn the hips a little to get it to pop out. Once you can do that with no arms just turn a little faster. I think you are trying to hit perfect shots so you are looking and hitting. Try it a little different and you should get it in minutes. Then goo for more.

      You are spot on....played today had 3 ssnd shots...all made green...+2 sandy's.....i was doing exactly what you said....trying to see it before i hit it!.....i focused on delaying the reaction to watch it! + really loosened my arms and turned with body stayed down and just loosy goosy arms following body..and staying down to watch it..."delaying the reaction to watch it"...i keep that in my head now when i enter the bunker...+...loose arms and basic body swing mantra skills.....my skulls were from lifting up...eager to see the result......you pegged it w/o even seeing my swing!.....well...i know why....because..youve seen it all!!!!...thank you!

    Great video and will be implementing. I still struggle with uphill and downhill sand shots. I suspect there has to be adjustments for those. BTW love your visor. Staying loose is everything. Last Thursday I shot a 99. Yesterday I shot a 79 with an 8 on a par 5. I’m 72 yrs old. What do I attribute it to. I just stayed loose. From my grip to arm swing and body motion. My only swing thought was to finish my swing. It worked and made incredible contact 90% of the time. Surprisingly it worked for my putting also. Light grip and just moving my putter back and forth like a metronome. How does one knock 20 strokes off your round, playing the same course within 3 days of my worst round of the year? What a game this thing GOLF is. Gawd knows what my next round will be!

    Today is 60 C in Atlanta and I tried your sand trap shot that hit like a regular shot as your feet is deep in the sand so you can aim at the ball and hit like a regular shot and the club head will automatically be under the ball. Guess what ? I hit 95-98% out of the bunker with ease, particularly if I try to straight up my right hand and not chicken wing it. Amazing Paul, best sand trap technique so far for me. Thanks a lot

I play in Florida and bunkers are inconsistent and a lot are compacted. How do I keep this same easy approach without bouncing into the ball. Is it as easy as just square the face?

    I've watched a dozen videos on this. Most have these common points; open club, choke up, wiggle feet in the sand, wide stance, weight on front leg, hit behind the ball. I've tried them and none have worked. I'm gonna try your method the next time I go to the practice range. Will let you know how it goes.

    • @bcain5823

      Hit some balls today. Was touch and go but at least I'm hitting better. Now most of the balls are landing on the green. Still get some wild ones though. My biggest issue is a consistent strike in the sand. Still hitting it too fat but keeping my lower body stationary during the back and forward swing seems to help. I do try to follow through and turn my belt bucket after striking.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First goal - get every ball on the green. Once you can do that then go for the pin. Fat is too much weight on the back foot at impact so on those you are not swinging through it as I suggest. Why would you turn after striking. You need to fire the lower body from the top as soon as you start down. Try again and you will get them out perfectly in minutes.

Plus I was not very good at judging distance....I was just happy I was out. So the other day I was in a green side bunker and I remembered Paul’s lesson. I had never tried it but thought why not....so I did what he suggested and bam out the first time with no difficulty at all. If you can't dig it then you are picking it off the surface. I would grip down a half inch and do more of the my pitching technique. 3/4 back and turn the belt buckle to hit the shot. Still need to get through it but don't swing too hard or you will hit it over the green.

    12 handicap My bunker play is a disaster. Can wreck a score anytime. I've seen every youtube posting going, lessons the lot. Came across this one, went straight to the practice bunker at my local course. Dare I say I can see light at the end of the tunnel? Love the idea of keeping the swing the same as normal. Much more consistency and so confidence. With recommended line in bunker, I was able to diagnose poor shots (mainly hitting clean over the green) as Paul said , lifting head. Worked better for me by placing ball off left in step. Recommend to anyone in the same position. PS was using Callaway sure out 2 60 degree, range of 8- 10 yards. Need to practice for longer bunker shots and different slopes

    Great video and lesson Thanks Paul. Strangely I've always been good and confident getting out of fairway bunkers, just because I use my normal swing technique without thinking about it, but as soon as I hit a green side bunker I've been altering everything..Absolute rubbish! This makes so much sense to me. I'm heading out today with more confidence than I've ever had over playing my way out. Only thing you left out is distance control. I presume you advise just opening or closing the face an appropriate amount ?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you figured that out. Fairway bunkers are easy. If you hit a shot on the grass would you not hit the ball first? So you need to do your normal swing in the fairway bunker. You understand this now. Couple of things to watch for:
      Dig in only 1/2 inch. Grip down 1/2 inch.
      Keep your head fairly still.
      7 iron and up aim left as you will fade it.
      Take one more club.
      If I include everything in one tip I would have about 10 tips on the channel:
      DISTANCE CONTROL (greenside bunkers)
      To vary the distance in bunkers you can open the face more or less, turn faster or slower, dig in deeper or shallower or any combination of the above using my bunker technique.

    I haven't tried yet, but other comments say it works. I just can't get over the fact that i am trained to hit the ball first.... so how can my mind compensate all of a sudden to ignore all the normal iron shots where striking the ball first is paramount? I get that the feet are buried, but not all lies on grass are level either, and if we did this in say a lie with the ball a little higher than level, we would hit it fat. How do you overcome the tendency to hit the ball first? Even some of the reviews had that happen. I see not choking up on the club is one key. Do you try to have any other swing thoughts to prevent a skulled shot thx!!?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lie doesn't matter. You take sand because you dig your feet in. If it is an uneven lie you are still lower than the ball but it is tilted. Works in minutes. Just try it. IMPORTANT: You are not trying to purposely hit down on a golf ball for any of you other iron shots either. The right fundamentals allows you to hit down. As for bunkers I call it hitting out of white grass. Same swing.

    So with thicker or heavy wet sand the idea is the same except then one would open the club less and therefore take more direct aim? The problem we more often encounter here is hard packed sand. The sand mixes with a little dirt over time and then bakes in the sun becoming hard packed or a very very thin layer of sand sitting on hard pan.

    Paul, at my course I will occasionally wind up with a 50-100 yard bunker shot. Really a shorter fairway bunker shot. Obviously hitting the sand behind the ball will leave the result woefully short. If I dig in a bit, would I then have to choke down an inch or so to avoid hitting behind the ball and to get the club face closer up into the ball for crisper contact? Do you have a fairway bunker TH-cam video? Thanks much. Love your content.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fairway bunker shots are like real golf shots with a few adjustments. Don't dig in your feet more than 1/2" (You don't want to take sand before the ball) You need to hit the ball first as you would do on the grass. Grip down just a little to make sure you are going to hit the ball first. Head as still as you can so you don't lose balance. Just like a real shot so you were close to what I do I just barely dig in though.

      Turn faster and adjust how open the face is. Fairway bunkers. Don't dig in much. grip down a half inch. Keep your head more still. Play for a fade and take one more club.

    Hi Paul, this tip really worked ,I was looking like a pro hitting high bunker shots but had problem with them when there's no sand.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you found me and tried it. As I said, they come out with ease. The no sand is tricky. We have a lot of this in Vegas here as the wind blows the sand out of the bunkers. What I do is have a square face. I am square. I feel like it pick the club up going back so it is steep. Then I chop down on the sand not really doing the full follow through. Instead I go about waist high in the follow through because hitting the sand takes all of the speed off. So it's a square faced shot. It pops them right out. On a hard surface if you do the open faced shot you will zing it over the green because the club bounces off the sand. You need it to dig in. Give it a try. Works great.

    Paul fantastic help. Following up to this can you please tell me how to both play a very short soft bunker shot say 5m's to the pin & how also to achieve the correct distance for longer shots so that you don't just get it out but can also control the distance of longer bunker shots so that you don't leave the ball well short of the pin?.

    Paul. I play in the northeast where bunkers tend to be harder or wet. It is difficult to dig in too much with feet. What changes do you suggest in that situation?

      Square the face. Dig in as much as you can and turn your hips.

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are like real golf shots with a few adjustments. Don't dig in your feet more than 1/2" (You don't want to take sand before the ball) You need to hit the ball first as you would do on the grass. Grip down just a little to make sure you are going to hit the ball first. Head as still as you can so you don't lose balance. Aim left playing for a fade with 7 iron and up. 8 iron down you might hit it straight or pull it a little due to the head being kept still. Take one more club. Normal full golf swing. Trust you will hit the ball first.

  • @ScooniePenn10

    can you add a fairway bunker tutorial? I can't seem to hit the ball cleanly and most often duff the ball just onto the fairway or worse.

    Paul, I’m not sure why, I’m a high handicapper who is very average at chipping but from the first time I hit out of the bunker I was doing it so well and am confident I can get up and down from the bunker. I know this is a strange question but is there any chance this could tell me something about my normal chipping? Is there anything I could try in my normal chipping? I understand that this is a very strange question but thank you very much Mr Wilson. Another thing Mr Wilson is that when I’m chipping I feel like I am going to hit my right knee in the downswing and in fact sometimes I do (this is my main question), is there anything I can do to fix this?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Chipping is easy. It's a stroke like putting. Stance about 3-4 inches apart left foot turned out. Ball off back instep. Hands forward. 3-4 knuckle grip. Weight forward favoring left foot (no weight shift). Stroke it like a putt. So it is kind of like putting with your hands way ahead. Visualize your putter as you make the stroke. Keep in mind the stroke will angle up and down due to leaning on the forward leg. This creates the descending blow which gets the ball up and onto the green. Then follow this tip to dial in your distances:

    Thanks and it works. How about firm sand? Can u also teach about fairway bunkers?

    • @paulwilsongolf
      @paulwilsongolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. You would square the face and dig the feet in. You need it to act like a shovel to get it out of the wet sand. If you can't dig it then you are picking it off the surface. I would grip down a half inch and do more of the my pitching technique. 3/4 back and turn the belt buckle to hit the shot. Still need to get through it but don't swing too hard or you will hit it over the green. Fairway bunkers. Maybe in the future.

    I was taught at young age the flop shot off grass. Once I was completely confident with the flop shot from grass I was told to get in the practice bunker and flop it out of the bunker. 35 years laters I’ve been flopping out of bunkers with complete confidence.
