The biggest compliment i can pay Marc Bolan and T Rex is that 50 years on from his peak there is literally no other artist that sounds like him, literally unique.

I lived just round the corner to this memorial for a couple of years in around 2012 and it was continuously visited by people leaving trinkets, photos, memorial messages or just paying respects. At the anniversary of his death there would be an abundance of memoribilia, flowers and items laid around. There was never a time when you felt it was getting less significant which really brought home to me the importance and love of Marc Bolan the character and his music. Living there I drove over that bridge many a time and I could see how you could easily lose control if going at some speed, especially in a small car like a mini. Marc Bolan never learned to drive since apparently, he had a fear that he would die in a car! Taken long before his time......

45 years later…”Bang a Gong” is one of my most favourite tunes. It’s strange to think that had he still been alive, he would still be younger than Mick Jagger and probably out there performing all his hits at Glastonbury as the headliner. RIP Marc.❤️

Remember the Marc Bolan show, was with his friend David Bowie, this was in 1977, some of the Granada staff were on strike, and they to film quickly. While rehearsing, Marc fell off stage. I think Bowie said something which he later regretted, something about Marc's death. They had recorded some basic tracks in Bowie's hotel room, (I think)? Either way Marc was coming back into the limelight, after touring with the punk bands. He died so young R.I.P., Marc love your music, you were one of a kind!

Thank you, you did a really nice job with this video. It's a lovely tribute. I think Marc would like that the crash site, despite being the scene of the tragedy - has been maintained as a beautiful place of remembrance. It isn't a sad, depressing place - it's actually serene. It's no longer the dark place where Marc died, it's now a garden in which to celebrate that he lived. If any trace of Marc's spirit still remains there, I'm sure he appreciates the care that has been put into the memorial - and all the visitors! :)
I like to think he knows how much people miss him still. He had a short life, but he certainly made an impression. He is still very much loved.

My teen age daughter in 1987 watched a recording of Marc on TV, When I told her he had unfortunately died she said he was so beautiful and burst into tears. Many years later she asked if she could come with me to a Leona Lewis concert which was surprising as she is a Metal fan. The reason was Leone was performing Ride a White Swan. She has never forgotten him to this day.

Only a month before sitting on a beach in Spain on my very last holiday with my parents I had read that Elvis had died so a bad couple of months. As Zeus said in his comment, very respectfully done. I was not aware of the memorial so thanks for bringing it to my attention. My cousin was a huge Marc Bolan and T-Rex. Every time my brother and sister visited my Aunt and Uncle with our parents, the three of us would be ushered up to Paul’s bedroom to listen to the latest T-Rex album on his portable record player! I was never into any singer / band it that way and only ever bought one T-Rex single, ‘Metal Guru’. That aside, there is no doubt that Marc Bolan was among the greats of the 70’s music scene and like many people of the day, I was shocked to wake up to the news of Marc’s death. Had he not been tragically killed, I’m sure he would have remained a huge influence on the pop music scene for many, many years and May well have found a new audience in later life like so many icons of the 70’s have done. R.I.P. Marc Bolan.

I loved his first records with Steve Peregrin Took…Prophets, Seers and Sages and Unicorn which I like best. Great music that still stands today. Wonderful lyrics and experimental sounds. John Peel sort of dicovered them and gave them airplay in the early days. The rest is history.

John peel did give him a very big helping hand in his career, sadly though Mark totally ignored John peel & his family after hitting the big time which really upset him. Bit of a user I'd say.

Weirdly, there is a painting of a tree by the French Artist Renè Margritte called 16th September.
A tree with a half moon showing through the leaves.
On the 16th September 1977 there was a half moon, Marc Bolans Mini GT crashes into a metal safety railing before being stopped by a Sycamore Tree.
Marc had seen this painting in a Paris Museum and apparently stared at it, transfixed by it for hours.

On a similar subject, a lad I went to school with died aged 17 in a car crash when he hit a tree on a bend. Roughly 1981.the tree is still there and I always think of the waste of a life. Bolan was a huge talent.

Was at Weeley festival in the 70s .Came on late at night to lengthy boos and jeers from 1000s of hippies. He pleaded and pleaded to “ give us a chance” .Eventually he wore the crowd down and he burst into Deborah ,white swan etc etc .Eventually wining the crowd over totally ,same hippies (I was one ) to wild applause and cheers for more followed .Quite a showman and a lot tougher than he looked. He was seriously good that night.

Summer 1970. Usher Hall, Edinburgh. 19-year-old me. Marc Bolan's Tyrannosaurus Rex gigging, support act for Ten Years After.
Marc & Co. open with some acoustic numbers, including 'Ride A White Swan' and 'Debora'. Second half of their set: Marc plays a white Stratocaster, flashing out to the audience with reflections/bursts from *very strong* spotlights. He played *ELECTRIC LOUD* via TYA's mighty rig. Unforgettable.
    Rest In Peace, Marc. 💚

Dont know if he actually had any premonitions about his death, as some people seem to think, but that year one of his songs included the lyrics "summer is heaven in 77'. Some fans also thought it was symbolic that the last shot from the 'Marc' tv series that went out a week before he died was of him falling off a raised platform he was standing on in the studio next to david bowie. Probably all just coincidences but all adds to Marc's undoubted mystique. Heartening to see how beautifully the memorial has been maintained - and added to by fans over the years. I hope to be able to visit one day - will obviously be a bittersweet visit 😢. As for my favourite Marc track track - well has to be 'cosmic dancer'

There is a famous interview with Russell Harty from 1972 when he told him that he didn't expect to live very long.
When my friend said to me that Marc thought he would die before 30, we both laughed. That was in 1971. He died two weeks before his 30th birthday on September 16th, 1977.

been there a few times over the years to pay my respects. Lots of freaky coincedences about his death, I'm sure he had a lyric that mentions peeling foxes from a tree and the car registration had FOX in it and also i'm sure he had a painting of a tree called 16 September which is the day he died. There is also an interview he did with either Russell Harty or Parkinson where he predicts he wont live that long or past 30 or something and ended up dying a few days before his 30th birthday

      @the last guitar...
about year ago someone replied in a comment
      to check out the picture
      on the cover of
      Supertramp album, Breakfast in America,
picture illustrates / is a view from inside a plane & Iooking out the window
mid-air over the statue of liberty, represented
      by a breakfast waitress
with a menu in her left hand & a holding a plate high aloft in her right,
serving up a tall glass of orange juice in front of the world trade center, at approximate level of the impacts...
right over the towers hovers the name SUPERTRAMP,
      with the U & P
just on top of the towers,
with the bottom of the U obscured a bit behind the towers,
      now,
if u hold the picture up to a mirror the letters touching the tower will
      spell out 911...
the album came out in 1979,
      what tf?
      Edit:
the glass of orange juice in the picture triggered a memory i didn't know i had, which state is known for orange juice?
      Florida...
      so i looked it up,
      yep,
the highjackers who flew both planes attended flight school in Florida.
