- Zach gets an early Christmas present and thanks to many answered prayers and #enchroma he can now see the wonderful spectrum of colors God created!
I wanted to attempt to answer the most common question everyone asks when viewing this for the first time.
How is Zach able to correctly identify the colors if he's never seen them before?
That’s been the #1 question everyone has asked, myself and Kristin included, as we were watching his illumination unfold.
The truth is, we don’t know.
I believe I understand it in a conceptual way, but it’s really just my guess, Zach can’t really explain it either.
I think Zach was so used to hearing us explain colors and how bold red is and how purple is kind of like blue but different. We’ve spent so many hours trying to explain colors to Zach and he’s spent so many hours trying to “figure out” how to see colors, I think his brain had all these data points that finally fell into place once his eyes cooperated and had the ability to differentiate between colors.

It’s so weird to imagine seeing a color for the first time when are brain is developed just like Zach saw red. Imagine we see a new color right now. It would be shocking

I know several color blind people. They wear a lot of grays and browns because those are the colors they know for sure, otherwise they come up with some very strange color combinations lol. My sister would help her husband get different colors but she would have to lay them out for him or he wouldn't match.

@@thomasugava7965 no, that's the only colour for which he saw no difference. There is no difference in blue for most colourblind people, it's mostly with red, green and colours deriving from red and green such as orange or purple

If someone sees green as blue for example, they're still gonna remember that colour as green

@@ELMQ If you are red-green colourblind, you have trouble distinguishing between red and green. However, that doesn't mean you can't distinguish between any shades of red and green. There will be some shades of red and green he can tell apart and thereby learn what hues are red and which ones are green.
He won't have been able to tell these particular ones apart and will likely never have seen them before, but he does have a concept of red and green, if that makes sense.

My favorite color is red so some people can not see my favorite color ;(
For those asking how he knew the names of colors: Imagine if the color we call red was suddenly intensified and brightened. We'd still call it red (maybe bright red?). He knew the word red and attributed it to a certain (incorrect) shade. He just didn't realize it was so bright and "red-y". He knew the correct words. Suddenly his world was intensified. We cannot know that exact feeling but it must be incredible, as so many color blind people cry when they see the correct color. We might all be colorblind in a way that we didn't realize. Maybe whales or elephants see an amazing color humans cannot see? It is a cool concept.

His reaction is consistent with red/green color blindness. He is describing the colors correctly because he is used to being told what certain hues are. Now that the R of his RGB cones is corrected, he sees colors with the blanks filled in, if you will.

Jeff Naslund Red/ green colorblind people don’t see yellow as dark red, and don’t see greens as blue. He wouldn’t know the real colors of ballons if his parents didn’t tell him before the video either. This video is either completely fake or overly exaggerated.

Rose -ETN and more stuff! I am a red-green colorblind person myself, and have researched colorblindness extensiveley. The way the kid describes his color vision is not consistent with any type of colorblindness. Sure, he might be colorblind, and his reaction was genuinely a positive one, but it is obvious it was exaggerated, or the kid just trolled when first describing what colors he saw the ballons as.
I am the kid in the video and I don’t really care if you believe me or not. The reason I wasn’t very consistent is because I sort of know what color things are because I have been told them my whole life. I was labeling the balloons wrong probably a little to what I see. I’m 12 now and still don’t know extensive research on my color blindness. My family wouldn’t fake it for views. If we did, we would of put ads on the video and made more videos. My dad distinctly said we didn’t fake this video and are family would know that but there would always be some type of haters who are going to say this about every video that is said to be real. We posted it on TH-cam so we could share this moment with the rest of my family. My grandpa is colorblind but my glasses didn’t work for him. I have a cousin and a great uncle who is color blind also and the glasses worked for them too. They also made a video but decided not to post it on TH-cam for reasons like this. Would y’all just stop hating on videos. If you do, you have better things to do.
