If you plan on doing Shadow's chronological timeline in the games that deal with him as a character, then it's in order: Adventure 2, Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Battle (gba) and Sonic 06, but maybe for the last one perhaps just go over his story cutscenes and play Project 06.
Tbf Shadow’s story in 06 is easily the best thing out of that dumpster fire of a game, best writing of the available stories, the antagonist actually has a direct connection and presence with Shadow and his story, and we get to see Team Dark in action again. Granted 06 is still a mess so I agree that most people should just watch Shadow’s 06 story on a video rather than playing the actual game without mods (with mods the gameplay is great though).
@@Tim7318-3 Shadow had the best one, but I do like Silver's story. Sonic's had the worst one in such a who the heck thought having to save the princess multiple times was a good idea as though Sonic was Mario? @@SonicLegends I agree that Sonic’s story was easily the worst of them; it wasn’t just the fact that the princess kept getting kidnapped and rescued over and over again but other things as well like how Sonic 33-50% of his levels are made narratively redundant (a good example is his beach level, nothing gets accomplished and they just got back to the city despite the fact that Sonic could still technically chase them), he never interacted with the true main antagonist of the game until the very end of the game (sort of), his story features Elise the most which is a HUGE downside since she’s such a waste of a character and his Elise levels are so annoying. The only good thing I liked about playing as Sonic was his gem shoes and even then there’s only like 2-3 good ones out of the 7 available ones (sad we never got rainbow gem one).
Forces may be a factor since Sunset Heights is in Generations and potentially Infinite as well. Although, Shadow’s role in Forces’ main story isn’t as grand compared to all the ones prior.

This series was nothing but a love letter to the people who learned about Shadow from Sonic Adventure 2, Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog. I can't wait to see what Shadow Generations has in store for us!
2:43 This robot is named Emerl, a machine called a Gizoid created an ancient civilisation that Professor Gerald found. It has the ability to copy and adapt to others move sets. It first appeared in Sonic Battle where it view Sonic like a dad and mimicked his mannerisms. He died at the end of the game. Eggman later created a new robot called Gemerl using the original’s data, Sonic defeats him and gets reprogrammed by Tails and lives with Cream the Rabbit, whom the original was close with.
And in the DS title Sonic Chronicles, love it or most likely hate it lol, we actually learned a lot about the civilization that created the Gizoids and even fought them both. The Nocturnus Clan, long-missing arch-rival to the Pachacamac Tribe, which is of course where Knuckles is the last of. Sadly, due to quite infamous legal BS and not enough sales, Sonic Chronicles was discontinued and made non-canon even though there was meant to be at least one or two more games connected to it. The main enemy for Shadow in Generations is Black Doom, an alien warlord from a race called the Black Arms. He gave Gerald a sample to create Shadow, Black Doom wanted a warrior but Gerald hoped Shadow could be used for good like finding cure for Maria which was the project’s goal. Odd recommendation, but take a look at the IDW comics. The guy who wrote this and Frontiers also writes for them. It's actually a pretty interesting story, both in the book and about the guy himself - at least as to how he became a game writer from a comic writer on the previous Archie run.

I was a fan as early as I can remember. I was a toddler and my dad would give me the controller. I think I beat my first Sonic game when I was about 3 years old. So… 97? It’s very nostalgic and it makes me think of my dad
I first encountered Shadow when one of my best friends borrowed a Gamecube and Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, but no memory card, so we could only really play Battle Mode. Whenever we did the racing one, he knew I liked Sonic, so would grab Sonic right away (teenagers, after all), forcing me to pick Shadow. And either despite or because I didn't know what I was doing, I kept jamming the B button and winning with the ring-powered special attacks. And Shadow quickly became a favourite there. This enjiyment of Shadow grew with everything I later learned of his backstory, when I finally managed to play the game for real. I'm also apparently one of the minority to actually enjoy the Shadow the Hedgehog game on PS2.
Oh no he has a copy. He just rage quit it a long while ago in the middle of the Hero Story bc of Skill Issue. But he can always jump back in and just play the Dark Story which is not only shorter but imo easier than the Hero Story.
4:49 - It took me a minute to piece things together, but then I remembered this is Sonic and Shadow GENERATIONS. In Sonic Generations (and I don't know all the details, so I don't have all the answers), a mysterious force is carving up history and Sonic (and OG Sonic) have to make their way through fragments of their past to solve the problem. You can tell from the occasional digital fragmentation that something like that is happening here. Shadow's past is being carved up and invaded by that strange robot. His memories just jumped from Maria sharing her dreams with him to the GUN attack on the ARK to Dr. Gerald's prison cell (all thing you would recognize if you'd finished Sonic Adventure 2). My money is on this short ending in the white void that serves as Sonic Generation's stage select. EDIT: Guess I was wrong and it WAS a dream...or a vision. 6:36 - THAT'S a detail I wasn't familiar with...is it new? 6:58 - Okay, THIS I know. He's touching on information we learned in Shadow the Hedgehog. Apparently he knew about this before his memory issues. 7:49 - Just think how you would be feeling if you knew what WE know (which you would if you'd finished SA2). 8:28 - Team Dark, together again. 12:43 - Okay, THAT makes sense. 14:18 - FINISH SONIC ADVENTURE 2!!!!!! Shadow the Hedgehog is mostly just embellishment. SA2 is where the REAL story is. 15:14 - Clearly he gets his looks from his mom.
Shadow was created 50 years prior to Adventure 2, but has been in stasis after GUN raided the Ark. Maria helped him escape when she was shot, but they eventually got him and placed the hedgehog in a base with Prison Island, where Gerald was arrested and went so insane from losing Maria he altered Shadow’s memories to seek revenge on global genocide until Amy reminded him of his true promise to Maria.
If you're after Shadow's backstory, I would highly recommend checking out the Project Shadow fan film. It will tell you everything you need to know whilst also punching you right the feels 💔
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, was my introduction to Sonic and as a result, Shadow. it was a such a formative experience for me, it and the Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) game.
ASDFGHJKL YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I CRIED MY EYES OUT WHEN SHADOW GOT FLASHBACKS OF BEING WITH MARIA 😭🖤❤💙💛 You could tell he was trying not to cry due to how his pupils were shaking. He was also probably about to have a panic attack because of how hard he was breathing (speaking from experience). This was an amazing finale, thank you SEGA for making this amazing miniseries!!! And wow, they finally canonized Abe's name.
I if you wanna know shadows past play sonic adventure 2 because that's where he was first introduced in that game, but it might be hard to find the game though.
So, ok. The games you need to really understand Shadow are Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Battle for the GBA, and Sonic 06 (do not play this, just watch the cutscenes, they should exist on TH-cam as a fan edited "movie". Story's not good as a whole, but Shadow's is pretty universally considered the best part. Probably just watch Shadow the Hedgehog too. Not as bad, but it's pretty tedious and because of the branching story paths, kind of nebulous and hard to follow. There's a path that's generally considered the 'canon' one by fans, but it's never been made official. Although, if you want to experience a GOOD version of 06, there's a fan made full remake minus story and hub world called P-06 you can check out). He has other appearances in other games, but after the 2010s, Sonic storytelling and characterization got run through a poorly written saturday morning cartoon blender, and he's just not relevant until...well this. Frontiers has some stuff about Maria, but you don't need to know it to know about Shadow, it's optional dialogue unlocked in the fishing minigame. The robot is from Sonic Battle. Its name is Emerl, though the name of the robot type is "Gizoid". Avoiding spoilers for Sonic Battle, but what you need to know here is that it's a fighting robot that can copy anything it sees and gets more powerful as it absorbs Chaos Emeralds. The scene featuring it is actually detailed in a journal entry IN Sonic Battle, where it's said to have destroyed half the ARK in a rampage. The Sonic community is happy for us too. As someone for whom Sonic has been a part of his life for longer than language (before I could speak OR understand words), I've been highly critical of the series' output since 2006, but especially during the 2010s, for a number of very detailed, nuanced reasons I won't get into here (I'd be here all day), as of this thing's release, I only have ONE major critique left having to do with the absence of the old physics gameplay of earlier games. Everything else is a nitpick, of which I have NONE for this. Even the length is only a problem BECAUSE of how perfect these are. I want MORE. Like, this is a HUGE deal for us. If you weren't entrenched in the community for the last decade and a half (give or take), it's hard to explain how big a pivot back to greatness this is. This is what the Sonic series looks like in my memories. Sonic was always this cool...until it wasn't. Now it is again. No caveats, no compromises, ONE missing component from the old games, and even then, what we're getting is still awesome in its own right. It's huge for us. One day, Sonic might stand shoulder to shoulder with Mario again, and we're getting there.
I'm been with sonic and Shadow since..DAY one...since i was like 7 years old. i'm in my late 20s now but i'm still All in for this and glad you get to see this as well DEEBEE,welcome to the sonic universe Fandom.
If you want, SonicHub done a video on Shadow called "The Most Famous Sonic Theory Is Real Now?" if u want to look at that to get on more info on Shadow
Yeah Shadow is actually older than any of the main Sonic cast, at least as old as Dr. Eggman. However he does not age and theoretically is immortal or at least cannot die of old age as he is an artificial Lifeform. Kind of like Mewtwo.
the most significant games in Shadow story are Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow The Hedgehog, but Shadow Generations includes a really good recap without a lot of the faff in Shadow The Hedgehog since that game is a bit of a mixed bag.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but has Deebeegeek actully finished any of the Sonic games he's played for the channel or streams? I think maybe SA1 if I recall?
I regard myself as an OG Sonic fan I played the first Sonic game on the Genesis/Megadrive system. So I'm really fond of this Franchise. The burn out I had about this franchise was when we had the whole two world BS situation. Nowadays I haven't played much the newer games, haven't played Forces, Frontiers and Superstars for example. As for character I still prefer Metal Sonic over Shadow. Now as for your reaction in this three part short episodes what I would love is that they make a Sonic anime with Mania/Dark Beginnings artstyle heck they can start with Mania for the whole cheery stuff that have the Sonic lore in the beginning and end up with the Dark Begennings artstyle in the end when covering stuff about Sonic Adventure 2 or Frontiers.
You want more Shadow backstory, huh? Go back to Adventure 2 and at least play the Dark Story or complete it if you want, then if you can, try out Sonic Heroes, Sonic Battle which is where that Blue-Eyed Gizoid, Emerl, is from, and then of course Shadow The Hedgehog The Game and Sonic 06 at your honest to God own risk.
I was a huge sonic fan when I was younger. I fell out of love for it after Sonic generations because the games were not that great. The live actions movies have drawn me back in little by little and then this drops and I feel like a kid again when remembering how fun it was 17+ years ago. I'd say it's about damn time we got some actual good sonic content and leave it to shadow, one of the most mysterious and story heavy characters to rope me back in. I can't believe after 12 years I'm going to buy another sonic game. I can't wait
Shadow the hedgehog TLDR Eggmans father made shadow using alien dna from a being called Black Doom, in order to cure Maria (eggmans...niece?) Of space aids. Yes thats real. The government raids the ark and Maria is shot while sending shadow to earth.
As a die hard Sonic fan…you CAN skip PLAYING the game titled “Shadow the Hedgehog”. It’s VERY INTERESTING, but is…complicated to play the whole story. Trust me on this. If anything, play “Sonic Adventure 2 Battle” (where Shadow is INTRODUCED) and/or look up Shadow the Hedgehog story/backstory; there’s probably someone who put it together on TH-cam.
If you'd like a good summary on the Shadow story over the years, the video "The Complete Project Shadow Lore" by chaomix is a great watch. P.S. Shout-outs to Casey Lee Williams for singing the ending song. Makes sense why she guest starred one of the sonic symphonies.

13:51 how come you were cutting so much at the end this music isn’t gonna get you a copyright strike it’s made for the game
They finally remembered half the moon was blown up!
You want to catch up on shadow lore? Chaomix does an excellent job of summerizing and explaining everything
Shadow and Mewtwo are both created beings who befriended a girl who died and they got a grudge against humans for that.
The robot at the start was one of my favorite characters. It's from a really fun gba game I'd recommend checking out.
They need to keep making animated shorts for new game releases. They are so incredobly good.
#3 goes so goddamn hard
6:08 What you witnessed is GREATNESS!! Of Shadow! 🎉
and now you know why shadow is one of the most beloved character of the franchise
ASDFGHJKL YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH I CRIED MY EYES OUT WHEN SHADOW GOT FLASHBACKS OF BEING WITH MARIA 😭🖤❤💙💛
You could tell he was trying not to cry due to how his pupils were shaking. He was also probably about to have a panic attack because of how hard he was breathing (speaking from experience). This was an amazing finale, thank you SEGA for making this amazing miniseries!!! And wow, they finally canonized Abe's name.
Hey Deebeegeek its been a while but i am glad you are as hyped about Sonic X Shadow Generations as i am...these episodes are hype enjoy them buddy.
I've been a fan of Shadow since the Sonic X TV series.
Yeah Shadow is actually older than any of the main Sonic cast, at least as old as Dr. Eggman. However he does not age and theoretically is immortal or at least cannot die of old age as he is an artificial Lifeform. Kind of like Mewtwo.
@@cmrobbins88 Not to mention the 50 years in suspended animation
@@cje499 true yeah he spent 50 years asleep and really PISSED at humanity.
Eyy, haven't seen DBG in a while
Shadow is the best Sonic character, this series just proved it to more people. God, this was fantastic.
The animation reminds me of Rise of the TMNT and Lego Monkie Kid
He made his debut in the Shadow the Hedgehog 2005
Sonic Adventure 2, actually.
@@scientistservant Not shadow, Towers.
Been a fan since Sonic CD happy to see them officially canonize the shadow game.
Aww
DeeBeeDad and his DeeBaBee
SEGA should make a movie or series cause the 2D animation is so good.
the most significant games in Shadow story are Sonic Adventure 2 and Shadow The Hedgehog, but Shadow Generations includes a really good recap without a lot of the faff in Shadow The Hedgehog since that game is a bit of a mixed bag.
1:43 well then great sonic x shadow generations is perfect for you because they go over shadows history
Correct me if I'm wrong, but has Deebeegeek actully finished any of the Sonic games he's played for the channel or streams? I think maybe SA1 if I recall?
He apparently started SA2 at some point, but hasn’t finished it yet for some reason. Beyond that, I have no idea if he’s played any others.
@@Purechaos61 I think he started Frontiers too but didn't finish that.
He started but didn’t finish SA2 and frontier
@@Zoroark_Master Any reason why do you know?
@@UnsafestPony81 by watching his content…
OMFG YOUR SON IS A GINGER!!! Unicorns of this world besides Albinism!
Did he ever beat Adventure 2? I remember him doing like 2 videos and then quitting.
Perhaps you would've enjoyed those shorts even more if you didn't rage quit sonic adventure 2. But alas...
If you liked the animations then check out Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Heroes & Shadow The Hedgehog.
Can you please finish sonic adventure 2 it explains more of shadow and Maria’s backstory
Check out chaomix he has a lore video about project shadow if you wanna know everything and be up to speed lol then go watch it it’s really good
Shadow the hedgehog TLDR
Eggmans father made shadow using alien dna from a being called Black Doom, in order to cure Maria (eggmans...niece?) Of space aids.
Yes thats real.
The government raids the ark and Maria is shot while sending shadow to earth.
Then, it should be time to finish Sonic Adventures 2
As a die hard Sonic fan…you CAN skip PLAYING the game titled “Shadow the Hedgehog”. It’s VERY INTERESTING, but is…complicated to play the whole story. Trust me on this. If anything, play “Sonic Adventure 2 Battle” (where Shadow is INTRODUCED) and/or look up Shadow the Hedgehog story/backstory; there’s probably someone who put it together on TH-cam.
Shadow's game is literally a necessity, bruh.
You still gotta beat Sonic Adventure 2
I thought you played Sonic Adventure 2? Maybe it was someone else. The whole Maria storyline is presented in that game. That game is amazing.
Maybe he never finished it
@@Mari_Izu He rage quit over skill issue, lmao.
If you'd like a good summary on the Shadow story over the years, the video "The Complete Project Shadow Lore" by chaomix is a great watch.
P.S. Shout-outs to Casey Lee Williams for singing the ending song. Makes sense why she guest starred one of the sonic symphonies.
GO PLAY SONIC ADVENTURE 2 RIGHT NOW!!!! SHADOW ORIGINATED THERE!!!!!
Just a reminder that he stopped playing SA2 bc of the major skill issue and apparently couldn't handle criticism.
They are surprisingly very good.
Shadow in cannon is estimated to be in his late 50s.
Hes 16
@@reggielacey2235 Hes physically 16, he's chronologically 50 maybe 51
@@GlytchGames Technically he was created with the body of a 16 year old headgehog. He was alive for 4 years, and was in cryo for 50.
He is actually 4 years old, but with the cryo it would be 54
No he was caught and *FROZEN* by G.U.N 50 years ago. He didn't age mentally or physically.
It's the same situation with Link from BOTW. Seriously people it's not that confusing.
@@BelovedAngel18 Yeah, people try to overcomplicate stuff that are pretty simple.
Will you ever continue sonic frontiers?
I got to ask, have you played Sonic riders
Or you could watch project shadow fan made movie to get his backstory
Please Dee go back to the sonic franchise , it IS worth it🙏
Have you not played sonic adventure 2?
Highly recommend checking shadow's backstory though you would have to start with Sonic adventure 2 battle witch is his first ever game then move on too Sonic Heroes then Shadow the hedgehog GBA could be next for Sonic battle witch is a fighting game for where that Robot at the start of the game comes from witch is called Gemerl from said game Sonic Rivales is also where he shows up but that is also a PSP game he is also in the sonic ride games but as a side side character he is also in team sonic racing and the racing games though no story plot points then you can move over to Sonic Froces witch also has a DLC for shadow the hedgehog i've been a fan of shadow for a while but a mainline hardcore fan like the rest but im just a fan of the character overall not my fave that spot goes to Tails honestly shadow's back story man is sad so i hoope you have tissues ready for some of it cause you could cry sometimes with it Losing maria for one made him like how he is towards some characters but i'm sure you will enjoy shadow's story none the less i for one find it interesting like with Knuckles's background so it's up to you on what game you wanna do but highly recommened Sonic adventure 2 battle first cause that's his first game a long with Rouge.
They cooked
Well, if you hadn't done your rage quit from sonic adventure 2, you would already know the basics of Shadow at least.
Hope you try again and take a small effort to Git Gud playing SA2 instead of rushing to your death like how you played whit Tails in your last attempt :'v
Let's goooo
Please finish Sonic Adventure 2
cute baby
Don't count your chickens guys we havn't seen the game yet.
If Sonic colors HD is anything to go by its gona suck.
I mean, we have seen the game. We just haven't played it yet (except those who travelled to play the demos)
@@Aktedya1-jt7vw I'll reserve judgement till radical soda plays the game.
I vomited at all of Muhria's scenes, it's so much cringe 🤮
I'd rather have Tikal back so she can hook up with Shadow.
