  • Today, I'm interviewing people about the working environment in Japan. Some commenters feel Japanese are too busy, while others wish Japanese people would stop working themselves to death. So, I'm going to find out different aspects of the Japanese working environment.

    I wonder how anwsers would be different if you interviewed salarymen leaving their offices late at night. Since your sample of people in this video were people out on the streets during the day

    Recently, I watched a Japanese movie from 1958 called "Giants and Toys" that heavily criticized the sort of work environment where people over work themselves until burnout and the hyper-capitalist side of the Japanese business world. This is a problem in Japan that has been happening for many generations. It's hard to break that cycle. Although, it sounds like the current generation of workers are more aware of this problem and are less willing to take jobs in "black companies."
